Because .50 BMG rifles are fricking massive and the ammo is some of the most expensive you can buy, rivaling full custom African dangerous game rifle chamberings. This thing may weigh 15 lbs with a mag and a scope, but you could still feasibly carry and shoulder it
interesting, makes me wonder if there is a chart of best ballistic performace to weight chart for rifles. Also you're worried ammo costs? come on anon .338 isn't a round you buy in bulk on ammo seek in steel case, and the rifle wont be cheap either, and a good scope pair with it probably costs more then several thousand rounds of .308, cpr would be the least of your wories, and why wouldn't you be reloading?
I think the absolute best round in terms of long range precision and effectiveness is .416 but 50bmg is ultra cheap and readily available compared to that stuff.
If you're going to shoot .338 Lapua, shouldn't you be shooting it out of a bolt action? It's supposed to be for precision long-range shooting, not firing indiscriminately in CQB.
It's a 5 year IDIQ (indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity) and had like $50M already earmarked for fielding/testing back in 2018. The fact SIG just won another .338 ammo contract last month is likely another good sign for the weapon.
why is it called the bad news gen2 2018 resized .338 lapua AR ?
What?
>gay hideous tactiisraelite design
>fudd round
whats the point?
What?
>tactiisraelite
what?
Put the strap over the top of your KP-15
>Fud round
>Cartridge built from the ground up to murder people a kilometer away
>Fudd round
Did you confuse fudd with boutique rounds anon?
>I want it so badly bros
and why is that when 50bmg rifles exist?
>t. not being a dick, just curious

Everyone seems to have decided .338 lapua mag or .338 norma mag are the go-to for high caliber long-range precision that isn't anti-material.
Ton of different military loadings available, including some fancy tungsten penetrator AP rounds.
You don't find anything like that in .416
416 Barrett is very real with higher BC bullets and a better platform.
416 is the ELR and beyond caliber.
The difference is SIG just got a contract for $160M of .338 norma mag and .300 norma mag
416 might exist, but it's certainly not widely used.
338 lapua is more expensive than 50bmg.
But yeah most 50bmg rifles are massive and difficult to shoulder. Mine is 33lbs iirc.
>No dust cover
>A2 pistol grip
Eh.

SOCOM uses the .338 norma mag for their MG.
Smaller and lighter than either the M2/M240 and accurate and lethal out to 1800 meters.
>Soccom expressed interest in the LWMMG submissions from GD-OTS and SIG Sauer and acquired a limited amount for testing and evaluation
FTFY

So THAT'S where the missing $21 billion in DOD budget went.

I will CQB with a double rifle and you cannot stop me
