Oh, and that you need war to make good military equipment is an MIC lie. You can easily draw conclusions from other peoples wars. Since everyone always learns from the last war, but should prepare for the next war, not even the people directly involved get it right (often they get it very wrong because they irrationally think the next war will the same). In all fairness, they were THIS close to getting invaded by Germany and had to shovel shit like mad between 1940 and 1942 to not being next on the list. Diplomatics and politics aside, they built up a huge reservist army in that time and unlike the one Ukraine popped up recently, they had uniforms and equipment.
When Soviet Union collapsed the swedes thougt that it will be happiness, peace, flowers and no more threath from their arc enemy.
They dismantled their almost 700.000 men strong conscript army, took down military spending which was one of the highest per capita in the world, and enormous anounts of all sorts of military gear from their wast army depots were sold in suplus stores and flea markets all around the world.

Then came Russian invasion of Crimean and East Ukraine and Russians started to indicate interest in the major swedish Baltic island Gotland, where army garrisons had a decade earlier been sold as tourist hostels and no military presence remained.

People make up their meaning as they go along. Mostly it's either political activism or careerism. Family is secondary. Swedes are individualists to the core, and Swedish society is a loose conglomerate of atomized individuals seeking their own success. While there is an undeniable aura of shrill moralism, it is hardly something the Swede is willing to die for.

In the world cultural index we rank the highest in individualism. We're quite literally more capitalistic and individualistic than americans or whatever other stereotype is associated with it. We just balance it with other things like social re-investment.

Considering that their government has essentially allowed their country to be invaded by african refugees and allowed their population to be literally raped, I'd say the notes they took were thrown away.
all our neighbors were invaded during ww2 and we were cutoff from the tanks and planes we had ordered before the conflict. Haaving narrowly avoided invasion ourselfes massive investments were made (not just in the military but also civil defense) to make sure if a similar situation were ever to happen again history wouldnt repeat itself.
of course that ended in 2000 with the decommisioning of pretty much our entire military, because there will never be another war in europe ever. Besides that money is better spent on wellfare for muhamed anyway )
