How does it feel, Xiao? How does it feel to have this affront to your entire identity, the thing you claim to despise the most, be the catalyst to your entire downfall? How does it feel to be utterly humiliated at the world stage and have decades of posturing and peawienering come undone in just a single night by an old woman thats not even taken seriously in her own country? To have every single lie your kind has ever said come out in the open with the information of everyone within China openly leaked and listed for the price of just a couple hundred thousand dollars? divorces to have a 90 day cooling period, resulting in a 70% drop in divorces
Honey, I got news for ya, in Illinois the waiting period for no-fault divorce is six months. That's one of the most liberal states in the country. (At-fault divorce requires proving that one person did something bad, like getting sentenced to prison for a year or something else fun.)

I remember reading the divorce statutes for one of the more conservative states and it was a one-year separation period before the divorce could be finalized.

Even Nevada's famous "quickie divorce" requires that whoever filed for divorce has to be a state resident, which takes renting an apartment, living in it 30 days, and getting a state ID card (driver's license or the non-driving ID for people who can't drive for whatever reason).

Taiwan isn't planning an offensive operation on Chinese shores anytime soon. Carriers are great at projecting power, but Taiwan is taking a "hedgehog" defensive approach, which doesn't really require force projection.
America meanwhile does require carriers for force projection in the area, due to the distance from the US.
      >But what about those little islands off the coast of china?
If they get overtaken there's very little the ROC can do due to their proximity to China. A carrier wouldn't change that. Strategically, the main island is more important, and money/effort that could be spent on a carrier could be better spent protecting Taiwan.

        Anonymous

Even then, to play devil's advocate, wouldn't a hedgehog defense work better if they also had carriers to keep some of their strike packages off shore and out of reach ofvthe Chinese navy that will sure surround Taiwan and bomb the shit out of any airbases or jets trying to taxi for takeoff?

most of the people suffering are migrant workers, either foreigners in China (like 20%) or Chinese from outlying counties (like 80%), they tend to be ethnic minorities that have been brutally repressed by Han Chinese, are treated as second-class citizens, and have no political say due to how the CCP has designed the party structure
in Shanghai especially, migrant workers that have ever had COVID are fired immediately and blackballed from being re-hired, not a current infection, if they have ever had it period - they can't go home either, because there's a quarantine period, which they have to pay for (with monopoly money from the low-paying job they just lost)
I don't have the best feelings about these people because they haven't revolted yet, but along with the Black folk who got lured in to work as slave labor they are more hapless victims than your average Zhang who gets paid to screech here

China is STILL trying to contain a force of nature, which is patently ludicrous. It is a simple fact of nature that trying to crush a virus puts SELECTION PRESSURE on it to become even more contagious, in a way that vaccinations don't. Vaccinations simply blunt the damage a virus can inflict.

It's like the saying by Ian Malcolm, "Life will be not be contained. Life breaks free. It expands to new territories. Painfully, even dangerously, but there it is."

The CCP has made "Muh Zero COVID-19" political and personal with Xi betting it all on it. But ZERO COVID is impossible now. It simply spreads too fast, and the more you pressure it, the more selection pressure you put on it to evolve to become even MORE contagious.

You think it's just an accident German roaches are so successful at spreading like wildfire? We've put so much selection pressure on the species, the weak ones are literally exterminated out of existence. Now they're being BORN immune to chemicals they haven't been been fricking exposed to yet.

An article in July this year at the NY Daily News reported that:

“A Purdue University study found that the commonly found German species of roaches are being born with an immunity to toxins with which they haven’t yet been in contact. The shocking study, published on Live Science, concluded the evolution of the German wienerroach, also called the Blattella germanica, develops an immunity to new poisons in as quickly as one generation of offspring.”

This is a rather shocking discovery. This is clear evidence of evolution working at an incredible pace. Considering modern pesticides are only a few hundred years old at most, it’s an amazing finding, and certainly could explain some of the reason why wienerroaches are able to survive so well.

““We didn’t have a clue that something like that could happen this fast,”study co-author Michael Scharf said. “wienerroaches developing resistance to multiple classes of insecticides at once will make controlling these pests almost impossible with chemicals alone.”

They have shit economic and demographic repurcussions the Party cannot weather, so they will bet the farm of a joint strike with Russia on the US, and Taiwan as a feint (or consolation prize if it looks like a bridge too far -- which it is, but evil is it's own kind of subnormal idiotic gambler)

Bullshit, what is this half-baked half-truth?
                - vaccines can provide the proper immunity that prevents a proper infection.
                - vaccines that only reduce symptoms but otherwise do nothing actually put selection pressure for increased virulence, because the usual downside for increased virulence (death of the infected) is gone. This is the situation with current vaccines.

Lots of billionaires and high ranking officials have, or had their own businesses going on that Xi threw a massive wrench into. Xi’s recent crackdowns on supposed corruption to basically be Chinese Putin stirred up something of a hornets nest from within, and throw in the whole Covid bs thats still fricking them hard today and an imploding real estate market where some of the wealthiest people in China are getting absolutely blasted and people aren’t gonna be too happy with his vatnikism for long. shiiiiiet they could literally buy an aircraft carrier with all that.

      >Why doesn’t Taiwan build its own aircraft carrier
Taiwan is already an unsinkable aircraft carrier.

Taiwan is also only 90mi from China, so it's not like they get a huge benefit from a carrier. Just throw a drop tank on the plane and that gives it the needed range. Can't load heavy when launching from a carrier because too much mass.

      >Carriers are great at projecting power, but Taiwan is taking a "hedgehog" defensive approach, which doesn't really require force projection.
      Also this.

Why is it called PLAN and not just PLN? How do they call their naval aviation? PLANAF?

      Yes.

      1) The PLA's 5 branches technically answer to a joint single command: the Central Military Commission. So everyone is PLA *insert branch* to highlight that centrality.

      2) The Chinese Word for Army is "Jun" but this word refers to any armed force so in English a more accurate translation is "the People's Liberation Military"

        >The Chinese Word for Army is "Jun" but this word refers to any armed force so in English a more accurate translation is "the People's Liberation Military"
This and it's also probably a hold-over from when the PLA was a rebel army with no air force and navy

It's just a quirk of the Chinese language. Mandarin does not have a word distinguishing armies, navies, and air forces, just a general word for military which is usually translated as "army." People's Liberation Army Navy is actually an anglicization, a more literal translation would literally be "People's Liberation Army Seagoing Army." If you wanted to use a more figurative translation that gets at what the name is actually trying to do and a more modernized usage of the word for army, you could translate it as "People's Liberation Force, Maritime Force" which is probably closer to how it sounds to native Chinese speakers.

Except that other than some basic stuff like E/O sensor and some off the shelf detection radar, the ship hasn't seen any meaningful upgrade ever since those island chink got them more than 20 years ago. I'd be impressed if they've installed a CMS instead of having to radio each weapons operator for order

I don't see any modern radars on that ship, at best it's got Phalanx, a 5" gun, and maybe some AShMs. Only point defense, it's less well equipped than Canada's sad old Halifaxes.

To be fair, at this range whatever works. It's not like you need a super high tech ship to aim a gun at 200m or to harpoon them to the face.

Taiwan’s military is somewhat of a joke. Not nearly as bad as Ukraine’s, but still much worse than what their economic and geopolitical position should support. They are probably relying on the US defending them. Maybe it’s 5th columnists sinking any serious military reform. Maybe it’s corruption (ie Chinese soft power).

Anyway, China’s not invading anyone especially not over a large body of water. The PLA is a branch of the CCP, not a national institution, and it’s supremely corrupt.
