I've gone into completely untapped territory attempting to make an AR-45 Super. The buffer system is giving me a really hard time. Very heavy buffers are marketed as for carbine tubes. I understand why they're not for pistol tubes but I have no idea if they wouldn't run in a rifle tube. My backup plan is cramming a .308 rifle spring into a carbine tube but that would put a ton of stress on the buffer detent. The buffer retainer shouldn't have any issues. Now thankfully the A5 has a good variety of buffer weights available, in theory the Kynshot 308 rifle length buffer should be around the right length for an A5 tube, but I have never seen anybody try it before so you'd be further in experimentation.
If you wanted to stick to a traditional buffer (albeit an A5 length still), the BCM T4 goes up to 7.4oz (https://bravocompanyusa.com/bcmgunfighter-mk2-buffer-mod-1-t4/), but thats the heaviest buffer i can think of
Yeah direct blowback may not be the best way to operate a 45 super in an AR, you may need DI to cycle the action without destroying shit, which is going to 100% put you in full custom territory.

A friend of mine is in the Georgian Legion and rotating in and out of Bakhmut. We get emails from him semi weekly. Basically it sounds like there are two main trenches running along the road to the city and the Russians just keep sending waves of Wagnerites up them to die. Ukies pound them with Arty/HIMARS, then drones are sent in to finish off the survivors. Then they send in infantry to mop off the stranglers. Rinse and repeat. By the time his unit gets there most of the survivors have shot themselves or blown themselves up with grenades so they don’t end up killing many themselves. They just spend most of their times climbing through mud and trash and body parts. He says there are some parts of the trenches where the bodies are stacked 2 or 3 high from multiple different waves. The worst is when it rains and the mud washes away so you can smell the rotting flesh of the older kills beneath the fresh kills. He said last time he was running through the trench when it was muddy and he tripped as his boot caught on something deep in the mud - when he dug it out turns out his bootlace got stuck on a piece of human rib cage that was buried 2 feet in the mud. How bad is it to have a precision rifle without a free floated handguard? can I still make consistent shots out to 300 yards on a 1 foot square target?

I want to make a cheap GWOT styled 20 inch AR with a big ass scope. It seems like a big hassle to remove the A2 sight post, if it's not a huge deal I'll use a drop in midwest industries quad rail.
If 300 is max range then yeah it'll be totally fine. Not like it's gonna be in-accurate, just slightly less accurate than totally possible.
Removing the fsb isn't a big deal (Editor's Note: If you aren't a giant fricking moron) and you could reuse it with a rifle length free float rail.
Free-Float just prevents your barrel from shifting if you rest the rifle on something like a bipod. I make those sorts of hits on my 14.5 with a drop-in Midwest Industries quad rail. On the other hand a free-float rail would probably make a decent difference if you're making that shot at 400-500 while supporting the rifle on a rock or something. If your goal is to be shooting long-range, I'd say go for the Free-Float, It's been the standard for a couple decades and the only reason not to do so is pretty much convenience.

The buffer retainer shouldn't have any issues. Now thankfully the A5 has a good variety of buffer weights available, in theory the Kynshot 308 rifle length buffer should be around the right length for an A5 tube, but I have never seen anybody try it before so you'd be further in experimentation.
If you wanted to stick to a traditional buffer (albeit an A5 length still), the BCM T4 goes up to 7.4oz (https://bravocompanyusa.com/bcmgunfighter-mk2-buffer-mod-1-t4/), but thats the heaviest buffer i can think of

A friend of mine is in the Georgian Legion and rotating in and out of Bakhmut. We get emails from him semi weekly. Basically it sounds like there are two main trenches running along the road to the city and the Russians just keep sending waves of Wagnerites up them to die. Ukies pound them with Arty/HIMARS, then drones are sent in to finish off the survivors. Then they send in infantry to mop off the stranglers. Rinse and repeat. By the time his unit gets there most of the survivors have shot themselves or blown themselves up with grenades so they don’t end up killing many themselves. They just spend most of their times climbing through mud and trash and body parts. He says there are some parts of the trenches where the bodies are stacked 2 or 3 high from multiple different waves. The worst is when it rains and the mud washes away so you can smell the rotting flesh of the older kills beneath the fresh kills. He said last time he was running through the trench when it was muddy and he tripped as his boot caught on something deep in the mud - when he dug it out turns out his bootlace got stuck on a piece of human rib cage that was buried 2 feet in the mud. Magpul BAD (Battery Assist Device) Lever -- should I install it on my AR15? I want to make a cheap GWOT styled 20 inch AR with a big ass scope. It seems like a big hassle to remove the A2 sight post, if it's not a huge deal I'll use a drop in midwest industries quad rail.
If 300 is max range then yeah it'll be totally fine. Not like it's gonna be in-accurate, just slightly less accurate than totally possible.
Removing the fsb isn't a big deal (Editor's Note: If you aren't a giant fricking moron) and you could reuse it with a rifle length free float rail.
Free-Float just prevents your barrel from shifting if you rest the rifle on something like a bipod. I make those sorts of hits on my 14.5 with a drop-in Midwest Industries quad rail. On the other hand a free-float rail would probably make a decent difference if you're making that shot at 400-500 while supporting the rifle on a rock or something. If your goal is to be shooting long-range, I'd say go for the Free-Float, It's been the standard for a couple decades and the only reason not to do so is pretty much convenience.
