Ron Swanson is a weird case since you're clearly meant to disagree with him on anything related to the government, but on pretty much anything else he was portrayed as a wise mentor figure even if he's a bit anti-social. He was not racist, sexist or homophobic, he treats everyone with the same level of indifference.

That's the whole purpose, even if you like him you're cheering him on as his viewpoint fades away and a new morality reinforced through propaganda becomes the norm. It both explains what has already happened and what will happen

You're suppose to sympathize with Archie because even thou he has an old world view on how everything is he still is a good guy. Works a 9-5 job, pays his taxes, always votes, has religious faith, and doing the right thing like not committing petty theft or acts of violence unless provoked. It does not make Archie right, but he is a caricature of the conservative mind and the problems that came with old mind slowing down progress and equality. Like restricting body autonomy, taxing the poor but cutting taxes for the rich. Lack or voter's rights, and removing job opportunities from communities for capital gain.
