My friend's cousin's uncle used a taurus judge for home defense once. He was sitting at home about to do some sudoku when he heard his backdoor open. He grabbed his judge loaded with birdshot went downstairs and shot the meth head once. The birdshot evaporated his upper torso. Honestly the judge is all you need for personal protection.

They're basically obsolete with all the small autos you can buy today. If your concern is reliability, then just get a J-frame.

Not that anon but one of my first gunsmithing projects I want to accomplish at home is making a clone but blow-forward auto-ejecting in .410 shells.
They’re cute but honestly not worth the $1500 or so they’re asking for these days.

Great? No. Better than just having your dick in your hand when it happens? Absolutely.

If you're going to go that far then you might as well go all the way.
      >Just imagine the grin on your face when you finally get to draw and fire it in anger.

I bought one last week and shot it today. Thing is a little hand cannon. Stupid inaccurate but a lot of fun.

I'd planned on carrying it but realized that the only thing keeping the exposed firing pins from striking the primer is a cheap cross bar safety. They make holsters that help prevent an accidental discharge if the safety breaks but I don't feel like dropping $45 on a $100 gun so it'll be relegated to a range toy or trade in on a future purchase.

well, like all guns. Make sure it fits you before you trust it with your life. Some men don't feel confident with a pistol that has room for only 2 support fingers for example. While you may feel perfectly confident defending your life with this little number tucked right up your pussy because it fits just right.

Pearl or ivory handles and as much nickel as possible. .25 or .32 seems to be the preferred caliber of filmic prostitutes, but let's be real. Hoes have to deal with much nastier shit these days, give a girl a .380 or a .357 if she can hack one.

Limited to two low-velocity shots that you basically have to be at arms length for accuracy ( and that hammer hook and all those weird edges leaving no guarantee that it will draw quickly from your pocket without getting snagged on something.) OR a nice slim .380 with smooth lines and a 7+1 capacity thats only slightly heavier and gives you more accuracy and range. Go with a .380 auto and ditch this derringer crap

depends. are you a prostitute in the 1800s?

  14. 2 years ago

Serious answer, no. I owned an American Derringer DA38 model. It sucked. Wouldn't reliably set off the primer, the trigger pull was what you have in nightmares where you just keep pulling and it never goes off, recoil was so severe that it made a S&W 629 with full house .44 Mag loads seem tame.

Any derringer in a serious caliber is going to have at least the recoil problem. If you want a meme .22LR just for holdouts you may as well get a NAA revolver or make a Washbear instead.

You bought a cheap gun then recommend a useless caliber for it. If you are going about your business and some miscreant with a screwdriver demands money, you hand over some 45LC or better some .410 PDX, center mass or pelvis, turn 360 degrees and walk away. No shell casing left behind, anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Then shut up about it. That's what it's good for. Bond Arms not some shit.

Cobray. Look that up. It's an interesting guy behind that gun and others but they do make a lost cost piece of shit deringer for people who want a low price. The guy did MAC10s and whatnot.

It is a gun. It shoots bullets. Easy to conceal somewhere accesible. You can (if legal of course) carry more of em. It is an option . Just like many other self defense weapons. Its up to you to decide because a lot of people involved in self defense do not communicate their experience. And even then, they might have utilised a bad (or a less then optimal) option to good effect. The tired saying->Some gun is better then no gun still rings true.
The benefit of a deringer is that it is probably the least obstructive gun to carry and easyest to conceal. Many calibres available. With such a gun
Shot placement is key, so practice . Also it has no slide so pushing it against someones body and foring is an option in chest to chest fighting

as someone limited to carrying a knife for self-defense, if you suddenly let me get a derringer then i would. it's better than a lot of options, even though it's so much shittier than having a glock.
