Let's talk Ar10's. While KAC, Larue, LMT etc are at the top around 3-5k each, what are the primary cons of the dpms pattern Ar10? Asking as DPMS is somewhat becoming the "standard" but I've understood it to be slightly inferior to the other options out there. Is it just receiver geometry, or are there other issues present?
monitoring thread for ar10 advice/recommendations
Are Sig 716is starting to gain traction?
I see them mentioned on here more and more.
>sig anything
No. Disgusting.
+materials (titanium eg v7)
I love titanium. That's more ar10/sr25 pattern?
>he hates Sig
Sorry your favorite brand lost the contract anon, but hating Sig won’t change the fact that they make good guns.
>chrome for me but not for thee
>india oem
>rusts
>wibbly wobbly rail that slips loose under light use
momma didn't raise no sigger
They’re far from the only company to sell nitrided barrels instead of chrome for rifles, and the MK25 still comes with chrome lined barrels.
Their phosphate parts do rust some, but only in a gun that gets wet daily in my experience.
Oh, and the loose rail thing hasn’t been a problem in years lmao. Cope and seethe.
Mine hasnt rusted and it sat outside for two weeks straight with me for a rainy sleety hunting season. I got no love for Sig, and the barrel length is a bit questionable, but half-off is half-off
They chrome .mil barrels and nitride civ ones. Nitride is fine, but the fact that they have the capacity for chrome and refuse it for the general public is what's fricked.
Regarding rust, I'm talking about the lvaw/rattlers/whatever that were sent back by socom for rusting to shit.
Arisaka had to step in and make a dingus so the rails would stop shaking loose, lmao.
You failed to argue the point that all your small parts are made in fricking india. Eat shit sigger.
I had a sig 1911 from a decade ago that had its small parts rust to shit and it sat inside in Oklahoma, not a wet state. Shitty company then, shitty company now.
Not a pattern (I think they use DPMS) they just make super premium rifles with titanium and lithium blends that weigh a lot less and can’t rust
This is essentially what got me on the ar10 train. Lovely titanium. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth building, or if it's worth saving to to get into a "package" such as kac, lmt, or the like.
Do your homework, but bottom right:
>DPMS Barrel and DPMS BCG will work in 10A AND SR-25 uppers
>10A Barrels and BCGs will work in DPMS AND SR-25 uppers
I had them do me up one and its fricking rad, its funny how light it is. It weighs less than my block II. they point really easy due to the rails being so light. Would recommend.
Very very nice. V7 makes amazing stuff. How light is yours currently? I was thinking of trying to get one into the 6lb range with optic, but I'm only at the dreaming stage currently.
homie my 11.5 is like ten pounds
It has to be done
So 10A means Armalite cut?
I think they're a good option, but they have a lot of proprietary parts. I'd like to see more accuracy testing. If was gonna buy an ar10 rn 716i would be it. Aero is probably a better "value", but their ar10 receivers/handguards are moronicly ugly.
I had a sig 716, was a fun and cool rifle but all the parts are proprietary which becomes an issue. If I could do it over again, wouldn’t buy that and would build one. Ended up selling it
The entire concept of the AR10 is basically a rifle to gas the shooter to hell and back. Put a suppressor on it and it expels more gas than used in the entirety of the holocaust directly in your face. Horrible. The only acceptable choices are MR762 and Sig762 or any other non DI system.
That explains the more popular piston types I guess
That's specifically what I'm trying to figure out. DPMS pattern is becoming more common, but I'm not 100% clear on what the "high" end options offer other than say pistons, receiver cut, bolt. barrel, etc. The only issues I've heard of for the dpms pattern are usually some incompatibility, or user installation error.
Pretty dumb opinion. I've shot a suppressed SR25, and it wasn't gassy at all. Stop buying dogshit. You also failed to mention the only good piston ar-10 available in the US.
>more gas than used in the entirety of the holocaust
So nothing? Sweet!
also
>what are adjustable gasblocks
DPMS owner here, specifically Aero: Upper/Lower fitment can be tailored further with a tensioning screw that’s pretty standard in Aero lowers, and DPMS High has pretty much become the new standard as far as AR10s go. I guess in terms of receiver design the KAC/Larues have the nice feature of right hand bolt release, which is big plus, but if someone made a PDQ for the DPMS it would be a nonissue pretty quick.
In terms of material strength I haven’t noticed much of anything, I’d honestly put a lot more weight into what Barrel, BCG, and trigger you buy than a funny receiver cut.
This guide us valuable info, saved.
Not mine, but know dude who made it. Figure it needed shared given the work he put into it in addition to generating ar10 discussion.
>There exists nothing I can find on the dimensions for any sort of F/A conversions for modern AR10s
Fricking hell. I know WHY, but it is annoying for builders like me.
So if I bought an Armalite pattern stripped upper will it only take “Armalite pattern” barrels? I know Armalite and DPMS cuts are different for the upper and lower, I’m just finishing up the upper right now and this shits confusing
The big 3 DPMS gen 1 heavy built like tank most common
DPMS gen2 lighter not quite as common yet.
Armalite the OG and almost no interchangibility with anything else and not that common
Then all the proprietary models of those I would buy a POF revolution DI light as an AR 15 and filled with tons of gucci goodness. And still in a dane proce range
