There was a Soviet pilot who did something similar.
There was also an incident where a Soviet military plane crashed into a kindergarden killing more than two dozen people. They cleaned the rubble and built a small public garden to cover the crash site overnight then cancelled all local trains and restricted car movement in the area.

Belgorod is rightful Ukraine clay, it's why it gets hit by friendly fire so often.
Fun fact - despite multiple Ukrainian bombardments and one ballsy helicopter raid, all civilian casualties in Belgorod are from friendly fire and the action of the emergencies services (pensioner ran over by an ambulance, people hurt by improper firefighting procedures).

Not much to talk about. Russian corruption of the ICAO is as massive as their corruption of every other international organization - from the UN, to the Red Cross, to IAEA. Flying with Russian lines was a risk at the best of times, and even more so now that they've dropped all pretenses of ICAO compliance by outright stealing leased aircraft and canibalising them for parts so they can continue to fly other stolen aircraft.

        >average Russian thinks a BAC of 4.0 is 'only light buzz'
Pretty sure you meant 0.40 ... but, I've lived in East Europe with heavy concentrations of vatniks. If 4.00 is physically possible, there's a vatnik somewhere who has pulled it off.

I remember a news story while I was there. I think it was Lithuania, they picked up a vatnik truck driver who seemed to be having problems keeping his rig in between the lines. His blood test came back something insane like a 0.43 or 0.48. Literal medical doctors remain puzzled to this day that he was alive, and he was operating a truck. Somehow. I know the press was having fun with the story and the hyperbole surrounding it, but the claim was being made that, medically, he should have literally been dead before that was possible. I was working with Latvians at the time, some who had served in the USSR military, and they were all very well familiar with alcohol abuse beyond the imagination of most westerners. Even they were shocked and found the story remarkable enough to make jokes about it for a couple of years afterward.

      Lol think again.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroflot_Flight_6502

      >While approaching Kurumoch Airport, Captain Kliuyev made a bet with First Officer Zhirnov that he, Kliuyev, could make an instrument-only approach with curtained wienerpit windows, thus having no visual contact with the ground, instead of an NDB approach, suggested by the air traffic control.[2] Kliuyev further ignored the ground-proximity warning at an altitude of 62–65 metres (203–213 ft) and did not make the suggested go-around.[2] The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 150 knots (280 km/h; 170 mph) and came to rest upside down after overrunning the runway.[2] Sixty-three people died during the accident and seven more in hospitals later.[2]

There was a second one, fortunately it didn't explode, only hit an apartment building, demolished three balconies and sank into the ground.
Three thousand people were evacuated in case it goes off.
They've already removed the detonator so it's probably safe now but who the frick knows.
