I deeply apologize for calling attack helicopters, if even a cheap piece of shit, with out of date electronics / weapons, poorly trained pilots and available in low numbers and like the Alligator can make a difference then the 800+ Apache's of the United States must be an ungodly force.

          Where is this from?

the show and the manga are shit and gay, but that scene is grossly out of context and badly remade. originally the guys on the ground are shooting with magic and not just plain arrows like in the webm.

        >clearly not enough of a difference to eliminate goat herders after 20 years of thermal kill montages
Seems so considering the US held the country with extremely minimal casualties for 20 years with a small force. Said goat herders went into complete hiding and could only come out and attack after the US left.

          Completely delusional.
The US only ever actually properly held a green zone inside Kabul, while the Taliban were all over the country negotiating political deals with the various tribes of Afghanistan.

That's how they were able to simply march in and take entire cities without firing a shot.

Yes but they werent fighting a peer force or a war, they were running counter insurgency, and even then they were very useful. In an actual war they'd annihilate.

    >pigger anti-air defenses must be seriously deficient if attack helicopters do not need to do their rocket flinging attacks any longer.
Anon, the rocket pod attacks even when accounting for arcing up have a much shorter range than the standard Vikhr missiles carried by the Ka-52.

I know this is bait but I'm too autistic to care. The one advantage Ka-52s have is that their ATGMs have a pretty impressive range. This means they can hang back out of range of any Ukrainian SHORAD and pop tanks from there. Longer range AA systems can't be within artillery range of the front so the helicopters are safe from those too, especially if they're staying low and popping up from behind treelines to fire. We saw a lot more shootdowns when Russians were on the offensive and they had to send helicopters out to hunt for armor, but being on the defense tips things in their favor because they don't have to expose themselves as much.

If helicopters can linger around and look for targets to hit with guided missiles that tells you something about the lack of ukrainian anti-air defenses. there is no other explanation to me.

Have they ever deployed Havoc's into the war or are they desperate not to lose any of them?

I have not seen footage of the Mi-28 since the first few months of the war. It is possible they are out there but the Ka-52 is doing most of the work.

        >If helicopters can linger around and look for targets to hit with guided missiles that tells you something about the lack of ukrainian anti-air defenses.
Yeah, lack of Ukrainian AA 10+ km behind Russian lines is to be expected. Anything portable enough to get to the front doesn't have the range, and anything that has the range is an easy target for the Russians. This is why a proper western force would do everything they could to achieve air superiority before going on the offensive.

I love the *concept*, but it's still poorly made and vulnerable to small arms fire. When used correctly and kept away from fire, it's the best Russia has and probably the best thing they've ever made still.

China will make a Ka-52 copy that's actually good, I imagine. More powerful engines, composite materials, better missiles that can be fired from cover then given a target after launch, and actually having some armor for the avionics so they aren't taken out by small arms fire.
