I have never considered shooting myself in the head an option. In fact, anything that destroys my brain via trauma seems like a bad idea. I keep thinking of the scene in the film A Clockwork Orange, where our main character kills the bird woman. He uses this phallic sculpture to beat her to death, crushing her skull. The flashes of light and artwork used to represent this, have always disturbed me. I imagine that if my brain is ever exposed like this, that my consciousness will not be destroyed, but that I will feel its atomization, its expansion but all while experiencing pain and horror, and I imagine many times that this would take a lifetime. I do not know what it is like to experience this horror, and I hope that it is merely my fear of it. I'm sure others would not notice my pain, but I cannot help but think when I see pieces of brain in gore images and so on, that those pieces of brains are screaming, forever.

Personally I wouldn't trust a pistol round to do it the first try. If I was going to kill myself with my .38 snubby I'd wait until I was alone, lock a door or two between me and the rest of the house, post a note on the bedroom door detailing what I've done and why so the people I don't want seeing my corpse don't have to see that and just let the paramedics do their cleanup, and only then shoot myself. Being alone in the house would ensure that even if it doesn't immediately kill me, I should die without any immediate assistance being rendered. As for the gun, it's a rock island so I'm not too concerned with what happens to it after I die.
I have a shotgun and some rifles, but I want to leave those behind in fairly good condition. The gun you have a nice day with is absolutely getting blood on or inside it one way or another. If the gore from your skull doesn't coat the thing when you pull the trigger, then blood and brain matter drippage will leak all over it until your body is discovered, and by then people won't be trying to save the gun. The gun you suicide with will almost certainly be permanently ruined in the process, so that's something to reconcile with. Leave your favorites secure wherever you keep them and just buy a piece of shit that you're sure will fire most of the time to do the deed, the thing is as good as garbage once you're done with it.
With all that said (I didn't plan to go this far into detail on suicide here, much less my own), I don't plan on actually doing it now. After about 3 to 6 years then we'll see if I decide to move on after all. I invite you to wait that period with me, things should get interesting and we may get a new lease on life, or at least a good cause to die in. If they don't then fair enough, time to die I guess.
