From what I heard the trenches near the road are a brutal vatnik meat grinder.

It's a triple trench system and the Russians have taken part of one of them but get farmed by the rest.

They send Wagner/mobiks to crawl along and assault. But they just get blasted by rotating drones dropping one load after the other. Once all are wounded the ukis clean them up with a squad. The trench got shot to shit and is just mostly a ditch by now.

They've taken multiple layers at various times in the past few days but have been beaten back several times. That said with the threat they pose to Khromove I think it is now inevitable that Ukraine will withdraw from Bakhmut before a counterattack can rescue the positions. If weather was more cooperative it might have ended differently, but at least locally the weather is on Russia's side this year.
Of course in the grand scheme the warm winter kind of fricked up their whole economic blackmail plan and their economy is utterly fricked with very little to show for it other than hoping and coping that next winter will be colder. Meanwhile they will be completely out of their accessible currency reserves before 2024.

        >Weather good for EU, bad for Ukraine
I've heard similar analysis. I wonder that's what the Ukrainians are waiting for, a favorable change in weather.

I dont think thats gonna happen. Lots of countries have been cutting direct currency deals with Russia.

I’m wondering if Bakhmut is going to be Ukraine’s Gettysburg in the future…big National Park and all kinds of restaurants and schlock emporiums where you will be able to buy cheap t-shirts and rubber AKs and shoddy drones with plastic grenades to drop on your little friends?

And they’ll have busloads of future geezer Ukie veterans pull up to tell war stories and eat at shitty buffets and relive their PTSD and shit.

Maybe I could open a Bakhmut Battlefield Waterpark for the kids.
I think Ukraine really NEEDS a giant waterpark.

as for exploring caves, tunnels, or buildings. Just send in a tiny scout drone to locate enemies, and then just toss a couple of grenades.

The future of warfare will be drones doing recon and bombardment. Infantry will be relegated to cleanup duty.

of course the DoD would spend millions on R&D and $100k a pop for that micro drone. meanwhile you can buy a DJI Mini off the shelf for $1k

The published stats of that tiny bastard are insane. You need some special black magic to achieve that, not some OTS chinesium. A tiny whoop on a 1S is bigger, lasts a couple of minutes at most, and the transmitter can hardly handle a couple concrete walls. That's what three orders of magnitude in cost give you.

as for exploring caves, tunnels, or buildings. Just send in a tiny scout drone to locate enemies, and then just toss a couple of grenades.

The future of warfare will be drones doing recon and bombardment. Infantry will be relegated to cleanup duty.

I find it hard to believe that there isn't a cost-effective or near-cost-effective anti-drone weapon against these drones, otherwise we'd much more drone swarm tactics in Ukraine.

America stopped ISIS using drones with standard truck-mounted jammers.
Russia has GPS jamming but they don't seem to do any EW beyond that.

Problem with EW for russia is that drones are crucial for their recon as well.

These days a lot of Puccian EW systems have been biting the dust in the shaping operations.

true, but i just wanted to point out that when russia tries to jam ukrainian drones russian artillery is becoming blind. Americans can jam stuff without losing awareness.

Vatnik milibloggers used to complain about it a lot.

Drones in this war are shot down all the time, you can take them down just by shooting them with machine guns, rifles, rockets, missiles etc its that there's a lot of them and they're replaced quickly.

Russia has more mobiks than the West has ammo

even that doesn't make any sense, a drone carrying grenades or mortars is still much cheaper than a russian conscript.

Pretty sure that they consider russian conscriptd as free.
The equipment that they get loaned to is worth more than themselves

Now there's an idea, ammo buybacks.

Russia would if it could, but everyone smart enough to make that kind of drone bailed their country years ago to places that would give them real money
Hence, the half-assed solution of using prisoners

At the end of the day that ground isn't really yours until you have a man with a gun plant a flag on it
As a result, the PBI will always be necessary in war

Russia is an Africa-tier military. Corrupt, unmaintained equipment, throwing untrained soldiers into attacks as meat, lack of basic supplies like food and clothing, living like animals in filthy conditions, garbage everywhere they sleep even a moment, no proper equipment, mercenaries doing all the difficult work, stealing everything not nailed down, war crimes, moronic commanders, etc..

    Just pathetic.

Fricking hell the war footage propaganda videos have come a long way since the beginning of the war. Imagine what sort of clips we'll be watching in another year's time.

God damn, a WW1 tier trench raid with drones and modern fragmentation grenades. Terrifying. Doesn't look like much of a trench system though. Does anyone know if it's Ukranian or Russian? Dug to fall back from and then retake like this or just hastily erected?

Why do they keep changing their markings? Sometimes the tape is blue, sometimes it's green. Why not just make it one color?

I think they swap between green/blue/yellow armbands on a semi-frequent basis to make it trickier for Russian infiltrators to figure what color tape they'd need for trying sneaky shit. Without prior up to date intel, guessing the correct color is bassically Russian Roulette with only two chambers empty.
