Europe has to push Russia's shit in Ukraine to prove you can't get away with this shit. If Russia wins, and they hold onto Zap, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, the lesson will be that you can soak up a few hundred thousands lives and persevere, you will just outlast Europe and America. They see that as a weakness and they don't value human life like we do. Paradoxically, Americans and Europeans actually value the lives of Chinese and Russians far more than their actual leadership does.

Fascist is a public state religion and jutting into your lives at every moment. Russia has been very relaxed, and more or less said "stay out of politics, and you can do anything. Just don't criticize anything. Pretend you don't have any opinions". Then Putin is trying to half-ass some kind of public fascist movement, but the lethargic Russians have been trained to be docile for over 20 years so it's hardly taking. So they're getting half-assed fascism that even Putin doesn't believe in, then mafia state oligarchy, then USSR and Imperial Russian nostalgia all rolled into one.

Please stop misusing the term 'fascism'.
The word you're looking for is 'dictatorship'. Russia is a petrostate. It has petrostate politics.

The current Russian political landscape has a lot of fascist element. They don't have a monolithic ethno national identity to prop up as a master race, but they're still trying. The obsession with a past glory, "righting wrongs" done to them by outside forces, it all fits. You can argue that it's all just the superficial set dressing of a basic authoritarian dictatorship, but that's what fascism is. It's just the aesthetics of a political movement, the details are mostly irrelevant.

                Anonymous

A lot of that can be applied to many different ideologies.

Vaguely, in bits and pieces, sure. Fascism is intentionally vague its concrete beliefs. It's a populist movement, so it's only real goal is to whip up a population into a nationalistic fervor. To that end it needs to be pretty broad and not get caught up in the small details. People still argue if the nazis would be pro or anti gun ownership because it just wasn't a part of the philosophy. The state said what people wanted to hear and did what secured itself the most power.

                >Fascism (/ˈfæʃJzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement,[1][2][3] characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.

That online dictionary definition is bogus. Fascism requires an organic view of the economy that Russia lacks. Using that view, you could argue that ANY historical government system was "fascist", from the Ancient Babylonians to the Middle Ages.

                >explain?
Fascism runs on a very specific ideology of how the government, economy, and population operate together - specifically as a single unit. It is collectivist in nature and draws inspiration from an analogy to body organs.
Russia is a neo-imperialist state that has contempt for its own population, much of which are conquered populations in thrall to Muscovy. >but that's fascism

I wouldn't call them fascist, because fascists at least follow some kind of system. Russia is run more like a cartel, with Soviet-style repression, but on the scale of a whole country.
That's not the point though. Even if Russia isn't communist, Stalin was a communist, and given his genocides and destruction of the Orthodox Church, they shouldn't be blessing him, and no Russian patriot or nationalist should look up to him. For frick's sake, he's not even one of them. He's a Georgian who murdered tens of millions of Russians. In fact, no one has murdered more Russian than him, throughout history.

That because you are ignorant. Communism is a secular derivative of the new testament, christians founded micro-communist societies in the form of collectively owned farms long before marx was born. F.ex when the puritans landed in america, their first year was spent in a collective farm system where nobody owned anything. Nothing and nobody worked, and they almost starved to death the first year.

They starved because they came hilariously unprepared. They didn't bring enough food supplies to last them for the foreseeable future. I mainly focus on medical aid, because I'd rather save good people than kill bad ones, but it's up to you where you want to focus your resources.

Good point, while I'm all for TZD Ukraine is getting billions in arms and not a lot in medical, I think that's what I will support too.

Medical equipment is really almost more important than the armed drones. Very little money can literally save a good man from dying. I like the FPVs because they enable ukies to stay hidden and yet suppress russians and deny them everything from logistics to life.

We as citizen collective have an insane economic power. And Ukraine is now proving how it can use it insanely effectively. What they are pulling off is stuff of legends and I am helping writing it by simply Diverting 300$ monthly from booze, trash food and some saving into this effort. Until there is no war, but peace. I am supporting @vozimdrony who is constantly developing them and has network of Czech 3dprinter volunteers as production base. They are around 300$ a piece.both FPV and bombers. Then I donate to dronynemesis.cz that's a larger one time action to get 10k drones. They are some 400$ a pop and not just FPVs.often I split the budget to very small donations for a few drones and mavics to concrete units. That's where you pretty much get an FPV with your name on it and can see a result video of it blowing shit up.
I donated also to ukranian and norwegian producers like wild hornets and some vikings. But to @vozimdrony I donate monthly. Altogether at least 300$a month, sometimes more. It means I am currently not saving any money. All surplus goes towards me not having to go catch a 152mm ina few years in order to protect my family.

US were worried about swarms of small fast unmanned explosive boats 20 years ago and to that end upgraded lots of gear for close to shore(littoral) operations and tested a lot of various cheap and small solutions to dealing with them, from Hellfire missiles to 70mm APKWS rockets, among other things.

        >US were worried about swarms of small fast unmanned explosive boats 20 years ago

Wrong. The USN was worried about manned iranian speedboats ambushing them in the strait of Hormuz. The larger speedboats carry C-701s and autocannons/HMGs and are a great deal larger than a robot jetski drone. Smaller ones are your regular 23" open fishing boat with big motors.

It's weaving and going at like 20+ knots while being thrown around due to waves anon. I believe we had a look at the guns mounted on the intelligence ship that got hit last year and they were literally body stabilized 14.5mm guns. Like, you got into a little cradle and kept them pointed at the target with your body weight and legs.

Also they're just fuel, plastic explosive (which isn't sensitive to PKM rounds), some control stuff and an engine. There's no person to shoot.

It's a boat size target withing a couple hundred meters moving at 40kmh. There's no reason to miss even a single shot, eventually you'll hit something important and stop it.

I liked the part of the Moskva service report, outlining that they didn't have enough fire extinguishers. ie the officers or soldiers kept stealing them to sell on the black market, or the officers kept the money that was supposed to be spent on them. If they can't do something as stupid as keep enough fire extinguishers how could they keep anything else in service?

I can almost sorta kinda see supporting Russia, but how do they square up all the insane corruption and inefficiency? Why would you suport such a terrible state?

        Anonymous

Like most Russian weapons, AK630 looks good on paper but has a terrible track record. Yes big powerful 30mm guns. They also rely on the ship's central fire control which dates to the late 70's. Moskva was from a similar era and had similar problems. Even in good repair its systems just aren't capable of dealing with modern threats. They were shooting at the boats but it looked like small arms. The Bass Tilt radar might not have even seen those USVs.

It would not shock me that Valery Gerasimov actually got wounded and he's in the hospital too. When he recovers they will just pretend nothing happened, not that he narrowly avoided death and spend 4 months and several painful surgeries to recover.

In contrast, Zaluzhny's OP-ED was completely brutally honest, and that gave me a lot of respect for him. He could have bullshit and spun, but he laid out a rational plan why the counter-offensive failed, and how Ukraine can succeed in the future. (hint: it's more of everything).

But I'm also of the mindset that you have to accept a little evil and get your hands dirty if you want to survive, and we're past the point of playing nice-nice. Any troops in Ukraine are fair game, and if they don't want to die needlessly they can resign or surrender.

they do but it's entirely possible they just quietly slipped them into the water behind enemy lines with saboteurs or just quietly snuck under friendly civilian craft.

If there's any ukies watching this, you should try puting some smoke launchers on the drones, so subsequent drones are harder to hit by defenders. Since the drones have thermal cameras they'll see through regular smoke, the moronic vatniks shooting at them won't

A not insignificant amount of propaganda shit posting was actually done by Prigozhin's own personal bullshit farms, and I'm sure they were not given any word of the rebellion, so had no idea what to do so they stayed quiet until they got word. Then DoD have their own shill propagandist farms too. Work is split between Russians working for cheap in some office in St. Petersburg, and the rest outsourced to fricking Indians.

The war is shifting to attrition, and who can mobilize and reform the fasted and this is a 2-way street; Russia has been upgrading, improving and getting their act together constantly at the same time. They hustled like crazy to boost military production and bring in foreign-sourced weapons. They mobilized an army of lawyers and consultants to set up sanction evasion on a MASSIVE scale to the point EU’s sanction inspectors admit that they literally don’t have the resources to go after every evasion scam.

Putin is flogging all parts of the economy into action for the war and the FSB is up everyone’s asses to control corruption and un-frick their military. The Pentagon made the analysis early in the war that the Russian’s problems were self-inflicted and that they will solve them over time. Ukraine is also improving but they’re starting MASSIVELY behind Russia in this contest.

These airframe and naval losses look bad, but they are only a small part of the bigger picture.

If Russia wins this war after Ukraine has fought to the last combat-capable individual, you've got the definition of a pyrrhic victory. They won't be able to replace their losses.

To boot, Poland has said that, if Ukraine does not succeed, they'll invade Russia.

There's trillions in oil, gas, minerals, and other resources in Ukraine that Russia wants. Remember, it's not a normal state but a crappy oligarchy with an economy built to only service like 500 people at most with everyone else being suckers. All that they lost is a few hundred thousand drunken losers from rural villages and the quality of life decreased for the rest, but they'd still see it as a win. Lives rae cheap for Russia. With those resources, they can partner with China and rebuild.

So all that shit about invading Taiwan? The expected response is a massive sanctions program and naval blockaide of goods, especially oil. Now what if Russia has Ukraine's oil/gas on hand and now can ship it to China? Russia-China create a perfect ecosystem that they can survive indefinitely.

What this means is, if they DO manage to unfrick themselves, they'll have to work with a MUCH worse baseline of materiel. Ukraine is an amazing place. Withing a few hundred kilometer distance you can have like a dozen completely different areas that each look like they are from a different alien planet.

Just driving through the countryside may seem like you are in Star Wars film.

This is what the EU should be doing, along with the UN. I read Korean War accounts and get a little excited when I read "United Nations infantry" and "united Nations airforce" in the accounts. The irony is that all the far-right paranoia about "one world government" being some commie plot, the ONE time we had a United Nations army that kicked ass and took names it was to mow down Chinese and North Korean communists by the thousands.

        Anonymous

The problem is that the Korean War was in the 50's when the UN was run by the US and Europe, specifically a still mostly alive British Empire, and now the UN is run almost entirely by the turd world.

          Anonymous

Yeah, it was a quirk of the time where the USSR and China didn't get to block everyone's fun at the Security Council so the US Backed UN got to go wild. That's why I want a proper European Union army, navy, airforce, with combined arms and combined command. Getting together and funding Ukraine together in a coordinated manner is just one step of that.

which begs the question i supoose - why couldnt they build subs, aircraft carriers, cruisers, new tanks or fifth gen aircraft before the war?

anyway your concern trolling is noted. do you have anything else to add?

If there's a full armistice then Russia can setup their oil/gas operations in Donbass/Luhansk unimpeded which is exactly WHY Ukraine should never stop fighting fully. They can just stop offensive operations and periodically send Himars or Storm shadow into any attempt to start oil extraction and shut it down indefinitely.

Russia then has to man the entire front with the bulk of their army seemingly forever, and can't even get resources to pay for it all. How long Can Russia lsat?

            Anonymous

            >Russia can setup their oil/gas operations in Donbass/Luhansk unimpeded

All you morons who keep saying "RuSsIa wiLL jUsT tAkE $1 tRillON oF OiL aNd GaS!!!" have no fricking idea how economics works. Russia has more natural resources in its *own* territory than it could possibly exploit given its current industrial capacity. If it doubled or tripled the amount of petroleum or natural gas it exported, it would cause a glut which would cause the price to plummet. It has historically restricted its output to keep prices high, just like other OPEC members. And that's even assuming that civilized nations will lift sanctions any time in the next decade or two, which is very unlikely.

The war has zero economic justification, it's just about Russia's pathetic delusion that it's a great power.

      >This sinking is honestly one of the most Kino shots of the war so far

First of its kind and Ukraine is getting way better at this. I remember some early ones where it just kinda bounced off the damn ship, then blew up, and only did minor damage. Now they seem to have a pattern down: First one rams it to create a hole. Second one then enters the hole to detonate to create catastrophic damage.

It's just going to get better from here on out and USV are cheaper to create and produce than new Black Sea fleet ships so the rate that they are damaged or destroyed will only increase.

We need tools to somehow detect and take out the subs since they're the most deadly and hard to hit.

The scariest part is really that Ukraine is doing all this on a budget and kind of half-ass. Yeah, they're getting better at it, but imagine what a well funded version of this shit would look like. Subs launching these things to the surface, then they drive around carrying out a mini-Pearl Harbor while the carrier sub slips away.

I fear traditional navies don't have long.

I remember early in the war where Ukraine fired some Grads at a Russian ship, and it was kind of a symbolic gesture and they said maybe they damaged some of the radar so it'd have to be repaired. That was seen as a "win" against the navy early in the war. Kind of pathetic that we even celebrated that early on.

Now here we are. Stealth cruise missiles hitting ships in drydock, and USV sinking ships in dock on a regular basis.

It was celebrated because it made the Russian navy think twice about Operation Copelord in Odessa, which seen as an impressive win. There was a brief moment when it seemed like the Navy was the only competent branch before they got assrammed
