>I'm thinking SM-2s mounted on something improvised.
Even if we assume suicide surface drones that are simply used as a launch platform (doesn't matter if drone survives the launch) that would require sailing one down the Don river, which is in Russia, as going through the Kerch strait most likely isn't an option.
Doesn't seem very realistic
Really wierd. Russia has friend-or-foe transponders, both legacy from the USSR and newer systems. I wonder if they’ve been hacked resulting in the Russians just turning them off and leading to inevitable friendly-fire situations.
They didn't shoot it down themselves, this is just cope because it's less bad from the narrative perspective compared to some stupid rural khokhol hillbilly rednecks doing that.
how is it less bad? because if the russians were to be believed somewhere in Ukraine an S-300/400 crew has gone AWOL and has shot down dozens of jets and hundreds of millions of dollars and the russians are powerless to stop them.
Bruh, russian culture and society always thought of ukrainians as subhuman hillbillies, the last decade this was pumping out by propaganda up to 11. Acknowledging that stupid khokhols shot down your precious plane is literally impossible to comprehend. That's "sky fell down" tier of shit. While "we've fricked up and shot down our won shit" is bad, but not apocalyptic.
You can blame equipment failure or some moron as a source of the problem
if they allow that their whole air defence is shit, it could be blamed on the leadership
It's not just about IFF transponders.
AFAIK any barely passable radar can tell altitude, velocity, vector, size, turbine count and power.
What could be low, slow, large, 4 turbine and, on top of it all, fly in pre-determined routes and time frames... in the very same airspace where they already shot one low, slow, large, 4 turbine aircraft, flying predetermined routes and time frames, that turned out to be an A50???
Or maybe russian radars can only tell if something IS or ISN'T there and it's the methanol concentration in the ADs operator that determines everything else.
Idk, not sure, but it seems more plausible with every friendly fire incident.
According to the Russians the missile came from their own lines, not Ukraine. Russia has specifically been flying their AWACS away from the front line in case Patriots have been moved there.
You can clearly see the 1st missile go for a flare. Why would a patriot missile bite off on flares though? It's radar guided. Maybe IRIS-T sneaking around? I bet it can do way beyond published figures for big lumbering targets like the A-100, in clear weather.
>Russia says they built X of something >In reality, only build y because most of the funds are stolen so Putin can buy another yacht >keep claiming X despite only showing y

That's all they fricking have? Is that before or after the 2 they've lost?
Why so few in service? Wiki says they built 40
Russia officially has 9 A-50M's, with two losses (three if you count the droned one as lost) they're down to either 6 or 7. They also have two A-100's. So they have 11 total, but only 6-7 active after losses right now.
Of the 2 A-100s, one is a testbed platform which isn't intended for frontline service, and it's unclear what the readiness of the second one is.

It's going to be pressed into service, presumably not quite on the front-line since it's supposed to have significant range.

The A-100 only just made its first flight, probably with a test payload, it's a long long way before it can carry any sensors and if it does the likelihood of it actually improving on the A-50's electronic performance is low
>a plane won’t fly this low
The Russian Air Force never has a chance. It’s either fly high and get murdered by Ukrainian AA or fly low and get team killed by some drunks on your own side.
Nobody says for now. Ukie sources say it was a joined operation of HUR (military intelligence) and air force. Plane initially hit around Eysk, which is close enough to hit using a long-range patriot system if shot from close to the front-line.
I said this in the last thread, but the funniest thing this could possibly be would be if they strapped some Strelas to a Bayraktar and sent it out to go and hunt down the A-50's.
they're both modern and advanced AESA radars
they were competing for NATO's E-3 replacement
I guess the Wedgetail is superior, but idk by how much
the GlobalEye seems to be top tier too
UAE already bought it and France and Greece are interested
interesting that modern AEW&C aircraft aren't as frickhuge as the E-3 anymore but still have more advanced capabilities
how much longer until Ukraine revceives the first F-16? And will they reveive AMRAAMs with them? I don't expect miracles, but they might be able to make good use of them
I really doubt those upgraded/modern AWACS can only see air targets. They can almost certainly see emitting ground radars and moving truck-sized targets at 300+ km, do through clouds etc. I'm sure they're a big asset to Ukraine
Given the FrankenSAMs firing ASRAAMs and the various Soviet jets being reconfigured to fire AGM-88s, I wouldn't put it past the perfidious Albion to conjure up such technomancy
The Bongs modified the Ukrainian Su-24's by merging retired Tornado weapon racks onto them so they could fire Storm Shadows (and I assume SCALPS) from them. As far as I know, Meteors cannot be fired from Tornado's anyway, but it could be juryrigged.
I know I'm going to sound like a tard, and I really have no idea if this would be mechanically possible >Shoot Patriot missile up high >Glide it into the location where the A-50 is >Use some backdoor in the Starlink systems or the GPS the Russians are using to direct it home >Patriot goes active and bases it's target upon those backdoors.
I'm pretty sure this is not physically possible, but I can somehow still see something this stupid working.
Patriot missile up high
it into the location where the A-50 is
ok, I'm with you, sounds reasonable.
>>Use some backdoor in the Starlink systems or the GPS the Russians are using to direct it home
goes active and bases it's target upon those backdoors.
Now I have no idea what you're talking about. I think maybe neither do you.
There are some variants of PAC-2 with home on jam/anti-radiation capability that are fired in lofted trajectories to increase their range, specifically to take out AWACS and AEW planes.
Imagine being asked to crew one of the remaining ones at this point. 45 of your colleagues are dead and the government won't admit whether it was vodka addled Russian air defense or the other side.
This could be friendly fire because one of the missiles hits a flare. Terminal IR homing is generally a feature of Russian missiles not western ones (unless someone gave the Ukes Skyceptor).
SM-2/SM-2ER do so it's not like it's particularly uncommon in the west, even more so if you include the israelites but that's beside the point. It could just be that the countermeasure program releases both flares and chaff, that's fairly common. One missile fuses early quite a bit behind the plane and at a point where the flares had already cooled down, that could've been it flying through a chaff cloud and triggering on it.
I'm gonna need some more confirmation that it was an A-50 because I refuse to believe these morons managed to lose TWO AWACS planes in quick succession. The flightpath does look like that of a slow lumbering aircraft's but Imma need more to fully believe it.
There's a second explosion, but also a second plane, this explosion could have been an attempt at using another plane as a sacrificial escort, but both getting hit.
>He was shooting from some unknown weapon. It was most likely not a Patriot but sometthng more serious.
Can you guys imagine if it was a lofted AMRAAM cued by glowBlack person SIGINT?
>He was shooting from some unknown weapon. It was most likely not a Patriot but sometthng more serious.
Can you guys imagine if it was a lofted AMRAAM cued by glowBlack person SIGINT?
tbh as a prior chairforce boyo, not really a high chance of this being the case. The paper stats of around 160km max range is false(max range listed isn't for optimal launches and not just to confuse the enemies or undersell it's capabilities), and highhhhhhh alt/high speed launches can go a lot farther in general but I do not think this is an aim120d going 220km unless they lobbed a AMRAAM-ER since 280s aren't out of prod staging.
Either this is a patriot or something else.
In my opinion a f16/f15e/c going mach frick at high alt might, MIGHT be able to push a 120d on a closing path AOA at 220kms on an awacs due to it being a slow big ass bird, But at that point they'd be spotted or at least identified. It'd also need to rely on the ziggers being moronic(high likelyhood I know) and keep flying a direct path into it during pitbull till it goes active. >inb4 muh eagles only a2g role morons roll in with 0 understanding of the bird
They fired a HARM on it
I don't think we gave them the G models, plus the first hit went into backup ir mode and smacked a flare, agm88s don't do that. However I'd love to know the feasibility of smacking an awacs in general with HARMS.
Russian sources claim a Patriot system has been destroyed.
>plus the first hit went into backup ir mode and smacked a flare, agm88s don't do that
What is that was a chaff cloud released in conjunction with the flare?
First missile impact, they're probably dropping chaff too or a combi set, but they don't really *poof* like that.
There were multiple missiles in flight.

I've looked at a map, patriot can handle it: if you launch from very close to the front with appropriate missiles then it's close enough to the standard route of the plane. It fell down too far away, but it was flying just barely close enough before.

I WANT TO BELIEVE
While DB Pivdenne (formerly DB Yuzhne) is based, I would rather believe gluing Meteor to Mig-21 then building a missile and radar pretty much from scrap in 2 years. (well besides the course correction system, it seems to be an enlarged version of the system used on Vilkha)
>recent russian nuclear threat against french planes.
Oh no! A threat!?! Russia fired two missiles at a UK aircraft and downed a US drone. A threat means nothing when Russia has actively attacked other nations in international waters.
>A threat means nothing
It means whatever the threatened party decides it means.
Just because UK let a moronic missile launch/failure slide (Russia would just have denied and then apologised and called it a technical failure or something, any overt action would make UK look overly sensitive and belligerent), doesn't mean that France needs to.
A gigantic fricking radar flying around a few miles above the ground is like a 10 million candela light in an open, dark field. The plane itself could be completely invisible to radar and they'd still be able to track it from fricking Poland.

What makes Russians colonial is the fact that they keep saying that Russians being in places is justification to invade and further colonize those places, and they keep inserting Russians into more and more places. 1+1.
>90% of your country
these are literally colonial territories (see conquest of Siberia). Russia is the last remaining colonial empire, just has a direct land connection to the territories, unlike the more complained-about colonialists.
it's just race realism. look at pilot demographic in any western air force
He's talking about literal low skill migrant workers from various -stans. Not in context of pilots, and not about regions of russia.
The thing is, "-stan" people love to move to russia. And russian business&government love to have them come to russia - they take any job for low pay, they know even less about laws and rights than russians even if they move legally, and they breed like wienerroaches. Which causes some butthurt in russians of nationalistic leaning, and here's an example of such butthurt - "see, not everyone can be replaced by "foreign specialists" whom you love so much, dear government".
What are the odds these things are just falling out of the sky because they're old as frick, they're being flown round the clock and Russia skips on maintenance cycles and spare parts?
If going up with the plane I'd risk being shot down by the enemy..? I'd be worried. Risking being shot down by my own team? Very worried. If my plane fricking exploded mid-air through no outside influence I don't know how worried I'd be but it'd be a lot.
There is absolutely no way Russia can take Odessa now. They'd need both heavy sea and air presence for that. And from land, there is no way they can push over the Dniepr and hold a bridgehead again.
These dumb motherfrickers, lmao
Here's to many more falling out of the sky, boys. Oh, wait. That's impossible. Poccia barely has any left to do that

>Noguns don't know or care how guns actually function, as long as it looks cool and/or scary it's good enough for their fictional work
I prefer to believe that the artist was taking the piss. There's no way you study guns enough to draw that detail on cylinders and magazines and not understand how they work.
They clearly knew what they were drawing, which makes it a decision and not an error.
There's a spring in the back and every time it fires the propellant makes it spin which picks up a new round and on the return stroke fires again with the new round. Those indentations are not milled weight saving sections, but holes to take up the round that close when they spin away from the feeding mechanism.
There is another mechanism on the other side of the gun that pushes out the spent cartridge.
The gun is actually in .22, which is why they can fit in the feed in the handle so easily
It's fairly simple really. >Person who has no idea how guns work draws a gun by copying a few parts they think look cool and slapping them together
Noguns don't know or care how guns actually function, as long as it looks cool and/or scary it's good enough for their fictional work.
I think I can see how it could work. The magazine/cylinder combo reminded me of a tround configuration that does something a bit like that. Ignore trounds now but this has been done in prototype I believe so it's workable if pointless.
Create a feeding mechanism to feed from the magazine into the empty chamber of the cylinder at the bottom of the cycle. This could be done from the front maybe.
Then have the cylinder rotate as usual, firing position is in the 12 o'clock. The cylinder rotates, driven by some gas/piston mechanism which feeds the action also.
As the bullet gets to about 10 o'clock (facing away from the reader), it's ejected at that point. This leaves the chamber empty for the magazine to fill.
The side charging handle is used to manually feed a round and cycle the cylinder in the absence of gas.
NOOO NOOOO NOOOOOO NOOOO NOOOOOO NOOOOOOO NOOOOOO THIS CAN'T HAPPEN WE WERE ON THE VERGE OF BREAKTHROUGH NUKE KIEV NOW NUKE KIEV NOW NUKE NOW NOOOOO NOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOO
Homie, it's a part, not the full wreckage, not every single broken off piece catches on fire, that's usually fuel, munitions, and battery storage going up in flames. Ripped off wings can catch fire, but due to the open giant fricking hole usually any/all gas is gone by the time it hits the ground.
Birds that go boom generally have a 10 mile+ area where parts rain down in various sizes and density depending on altitude and how it goes down.
Some have a RUD event and it's more concentrated especially at lower altitudes, others not so much.
Serious question
If 350 000 000$ plane fails in middle of nowhere, get jumped by village fools, gets completely cannibalized. Can parts from it earn shit load of money? (not 350 mil but like 30-60?)
Yes but also no, the expensive parts are the radar and computing hardware, but the only people capable of spending that kind of money on those things (IE: Western governments) don't want them, however I bet you'd get a sweet payday for some of the hard drives, encrypted communications equipment, etc. But in that case they'd be paying for the information, not the hardware itself.
not really, anything good is damaged beyond repair and isn't worth the cost of striping, It is best to grab as many cables as you can carry and sell its copper
Blllllyyyyaaaaad vatnikbros that is 100% the horizontal stabilizer of an Il-76 pattern aircraft... quick, we need another narrative! Uhhh... it was another cargo plane carrying invisible krest HATO supersoldier prisoners!
15 of russias most highly trained aviators in an irreplaceable $350 million aircraft screaming blyat to the radio, dropping decoy flares for 2 minutes straight as illiterate conscripts thinking they’ll get paid at all fire missile after missile at them till one hits.
Why would it be dumping flares far from enemy lines in middle of fricking entire sea. And if it's really the hit who was camera?
It knew it was being tracked by something heat seeking? It just randomly dumps flares trough entire flight, even over Russia? Counter measures were engaged on accident confusing Russian AD?
>It knew it was being tracked by something heat seeking?
They do have quite a good radar so they'd know a missile is coming in and probably know a bit about what type too. Then it's just a matter of spamming countermeasures while trying to hit the deck I guess.
This genuinely could have been a case of friendly fire.
Patriot is most likely if it was the Ukrainians, those things have way more range than anyone seems to understand.
what air-to-air missile that ukraine or russia has uses infrared at all either as a primary or back-up? since one missile hit a flare it seems like it should be easy to narrow it down from that
/chug/ says it's still not a done deal anyway, so why are you guys so excited about it? After all, this is a land war, and even if Russia loses all of its mighty air and naval forces, it will still win. Or at least that's what they say.
Now that awacs and bsf are endangered species in Narcommieland they can finally modernise to the advanced variants they were holding back on.
Anyday now swarms of A-500 will fill the skies above Albion, Armatas will rolls out in the thousands covering the planes from moscow to Nebraska, VDV mk2 will be paradropping from LEO spaceweapons, Putin class missile carriers will sail the seas dominating any and all HATO hulls, Poseidon torpedoes will circle the earth in perpetual Jormungand manuevre drowning every rude country with irradiated tsunamis of whale cum.
Before the war I bought into all the Russian propaganda, after all they looked like they started taking their army seriously in the 2010s while Europe was still fat and lazy since the 1990s. Of course, it made sense, in numbers they had bucketloads of stuff, in quality they were modernizing and even admitting that they couldn't outright compete with NATO, I just kept reading things about trying to compete in less conventional areas like EW, ground based AA, cyber... whilst modernizing the structure of the army, I still remember that article extolling the BTGs as something that optimized the current Russian forces for effect in Crimea and adequately coordinated paramilitaries like local support and wagner.
I saw the west like a bunch of pansies incapable of being committed to their own defense and deserving of anything that happened due to the sheer neglect.
Now, 1 day to go to the 2º year of the 2 days military operation that has destroyed Russian military credibility in any sense, wrecked its economy, made every battle a Verdun for little gain and has turned Russia into a bigger shithole for no gain at all, I hear that they have lost another AWACS. Mind you that A50s are almost hand made lost soviet technology, every single one lost is close to a piece of soviet artisanship(even if lackluster) that will be forever lost to history, and they haven't lost 1 but 2.
Every single fricking Russian should burn in agony in a lake of fire for this.
Sometimes all it takes is one final thing for you to break free from a learned belief and radically rethink and change your opinion. Well done anon, just don't go too far the other way kek.
>A Civilian variant of the Il-76 transport aircraft.
The A-50 is an Il-76 variant and they likely just share the same tail assembly
It was full of crests btw
A Civilian variant of the Il-76 detects incoming missile launch and defends against it using flares (and assumedly chaff)
(also it was carrying ukranian pow babies and kittens and the pilots were defecting to HATO)
>friendly fire again, the enemy had nothing to do with it again
I'm trying to imagine the state of seethe ziggers are in when they are forced to make this cope. It's psychological cuckoldry.
>Trust us bro, it was just an S-200
So either the Ukies used something far spicier than an S-200, or it really was just an S-200 and they would like the Vatniks to think it was possibly something spicier anyway. Only by correctly reading Budanov's face can you discern the truth.
You can hear the jets flying above in some of the debris videos. I wonder if they scrambled and one of their SU-?? got hit as a parting gift by Patriot-Sama.
Honestly it could be anything but the Russians have a bad habit of lying. They are claiming they shot down their own plane again and I just don't buy it. For a Russian it's better to appear to be an idiot than to give a victory, no matter how small, to your enemy.
I guarantee Uncle SAM is going to give the airplane's weight in missiles for a catch like this. Russians have like 6 modernized AWACS in total, and that's official numbers. Pays for itself!
Because every time the Russians "shoot down their own shit" its a cover by the Ministry of Defense for Ukrainians shooting it down dumbass
What makes Russians colonial is the fact that they keep saying that Russians being in places is justification to invade and further colonize those places, and they keep inserting Russians into more and more places. 1+1.
Yet that argument didn't exist in regards to the UK and their empire. I guess the UK weren't colonialists despite the British Empire being the reason the concept of colonialism exists.
Anyway, you mean like how Americans argued Texas was theirs? Like that?
>[Whataboutism Intensifies]
Russia is an empire that still follows an imperial follow, with a metropole (Moscow and St. Petersburg) extracting wealth and resources to fuel a high standard of living at the expense of the colonies (everywhere else) who have dirt roads and outdoor toilets and where the people are considered second class citizens implicitly and sometimes explicitly.
Nowhere else follows this model. There is zero, ZERO equivalance to Spain, the United Kingdom or the USA.

London is all about stealing the rest of the English and other foreign counties wealth, but that's just the banking clique and the taxman.
The local territories like Scotland get far more concessions than the average person in England does from London.
The cities are also nicer arguably, cleaner too. The only thing London has is more elites, immigrants, cheap labour, and things to do. Ultimately it's like comparing Tokyo, a hellscape with lots of stuff to do, with some of the nicer smaller cities. Being mad that higher concentrations of elite people and labour is more efficient at making money and are thus stealing all the money, despite places Oxford and bath and the like being way nicer because they are avoiding the issues of living in major cities while benefitting from proximity, doesn't make Russian basically fricking anyone not in Moscow the same.
Moscow is an oil state, stealing its own wealth and suppressing it's own people, the cities ultimately don't matter, nor does societal progress, the only thing that matters is controlling the narrative through mass media and making sure there is an existential foreign enemy to fight, economics do NOT matter to these elites because they can directly barter oil money for yachts regardless of how well the country is doing as long as the serfs do not revolt.
They use the democratic elites as justification for democratic failings as propaganda, but noone ever talks about greedy Russian oligarchs controlling Russian policy, throwing precious lives away for ideological dreams of pointless imperialism and personal idolatry that doesn't ever align with its people, because their news networks are becoming China tier controlled they will always assume the west has it worse even if it isn't because RT said so.

ROAMING PATRIOT STRIKES AGAIN
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
According to the Russians the missile came from their own lines, not Ukraine. Russia has specifically been flying their AWACS away from the front line in case Patriots have been moved there.
You can clearly see the 1st missile go for a flare. Why would a patriot missile bite off on flares though? It's radar guided. Maybe IRIS-T sneaking around? I bet it can do way beyond published figures for big lumbering targets like the A-100, in clear weather.
how many left now?
How many do they have left now then? Quick search says they only had 7 active and capable of service prior to the war.
Then 4 or 5 then.
2 shot down, and 1 had a grenade dropped on its radar dish. Since this is Russia, who knows if they were able to repair that
>One (1) U.S. carrier now has more AEW&C aircraft on board then the entirety of the Russian Federation.
Is this true?
That would be hilarious if true.
Yes, the standard complement for a Nimitz CV is 4-6 E-2s.
Thanks, anon. LMAO.
It isn't true, actually. Russia has (right now) five A-50's, but two A-100's, so they have seven in total.
>5
That's all they fricking have? Is that before or after the 2 they've lost?
After two losses, they have on their books seven A-50's, but with two assumed losses (hence me saying 'right now') it's down to five.
Why so few in service? Wiki says they built 40
>Russia says they built X of something
>In reality, only build y because most of the funds are stolen so Putin can buy another yacht
>keep claiming X despite only showing y
The Soviets built 40, the Russians are only capable of maintaining 7 and cannibalizing the others for parts
Yeah I guess communism really does suck huh?
AWACS are a complicated thing
please do the needful and understand that 2nd military of the world can only support a few
A bunch were sold off and of the remaining ones, only 8 have been modernized so far.
they only operate a-50m only a few were upgraded. they are also heavy on maintenance
>https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2020/12/09/kremlin-sounds-alarm-over-doomsday-plane-robbery-a72291
What about the one that got its radome droned early on?
I guess it was 'damaged' and is still in service, not completely lost. But to be honest I had forgotten about that lmao.
Russia officially has 9 A-50M's, with two losses (three if you count the droned one as lost) they're down to either 6 or 7. They also have two A-100's. So they have 11 total, but only 6-7 active after losses right now.
>9 A-50M's, with two losses
yfw you see wikipedia has already updated the number
Of the 2 A-100s, one is a testbed platform which isn't intended for frontline service, and it's unclear what the readiness of the second one is.
That's why I said 'officially', we all know what that means, but it's what they would say.
>one is a testbed platform which isn't intended for frontline service
It's going to be pressed into service, presumably not quite on the front-line since it's supposed to have significant range.
The A-100 only just made its first flight, probably with a test payload, it's a long long way before it can carry any sensors and if it does the likelihood of it actually improving on the A-50's electronic performance is low
there's a bunch in storage but it's Russian storage so they just sit out in the open rusting on the airbase
I guess air defense is finally doing.

>a plane won’t fly this low
The Russian Air Force never has a chance. It’s either fly high and get murdered by Ukrainian AA or fly low and get team killed by some drunks on your own side.
>whose plane is this
>ukranians!
Ah yes, ukranian airplanes inside russian airspace. What else could it possibly be
did it get shot down by manpads?
Nobody says for now. Ukie sources say it was a joined operation of HUR (military intelligence) and air force. Plane initially hit around Eysk, which is close enough to hit using a long-range patriot system if shot from close to the front-line.
Why would a patriot missile go after the flares though?
I said this in the last thread, but the funniest thing this could possibly be would be if they strapped some Strelas to a Bayraktar and sent it out to go and hunt down the A-50's.
jesus christ this is so beautiful
so proud of them
>flare hit
huh?
can't wait for more Boeing Wedgetails and Saab GlobalEyes to become operational for NATO to dab on Russia in the AEW&C department even harder
Realistically how much worse is the Saab Globaleye compared to the Boeing Wedgetail?
they're both modern and advanced AESA radars
they were competing for NATO's E-3 replacement
I guess the Wedgetail is superior, but idk by how much
the GlobalEye seems to be top tier too
UAE already bought it and France and Greece are interested
interesting that modern AEW&C aircraft aren't as frickhuge as the E-3 anymore but still have more advanced capabilities
The Globaleye radar just seems a decent bit physically smaller, so I assumed that had some performance tradeoffs.
>Globaleye
>a trillion AWACS flying around ukraine
>no UA air power to take advantage of them
how much longer until Ukraine revceives the first F-16? And will they reveive AMRAAMs with them? I don't expect miracles, but they might be able to make good use of them
>No fricking clue, nobody knows, likely within a few months
>Likely A and B versions, so no AMRAAMs
They're getting F-16A/B MLU. 'Mid Life Upgrade' brings them up to around later F-16Cs in capability. They can use AMRAAMs, pic related, a Dutch F-16A.
FRICK YES
yeah a non stealth plane will do wonders on a sky that literally no one has air superiority because its filled to the brim with AA
also cant be patriots unless they somehow sneaked in to zapo region cause the plane was 250km from the nearest front line
I really doubt those upgraded/modern AWACS can only see air targets. They can almost certainly see emitting ground radars and moving truck-sized targets at 300+ km, do through clouds etc. I'm sure they're a big asset to Ukraine
P-8s have very good surface search capabilities
If somebody managed to put Meteors on the Ukrainian Su27s I am going to actually coom
So it's either a roaming drive-by patriot or friendly fire, I'm not sure which one would be funnier.
It looks like a HUR operation, so might be some Mykolas with MANPADS behind enemy lines
I know I'm going to sound like a tard, and I really have no idea if this would be mechanically possible
>Shoot Patriot missile up high
>Glide it into the location where the A-50 is
>Use some backdoor in the Starlink systems or the GPS the Russians are using to direct it home
>Patriot goes active and bases it's target upon those backdoors.
There are some variants of PAC-2 with home on jam/anti-radiation capability that are fired in lofted trajectories to increase their range, specifically to take out AWACS and AEW planes.
not a single variant is capable of such range moreso if you account that the awacs dived into the thick air
so they used s300 probably

Imagine being asked to crew one of the remaining ones at this point. 45 of your colleagues are dead and the government won't admit whether it was vodka addled Russian air defense or the other side.
alternative is being promoted to infantry
Well, they're going to get promoted to infantry either way.
No way
Remember in the threads where the first one was shot down people argued there was no way they would let that happen to the second one?
Yeah
>I'm gonna need some more confirmation that it was an A-50
see the older thread
There's a second explosion, but also a second plane, this explosion could have been an attempt at using another plane as a sacrificial escort, but both getting hit.
I wonder if Russian AA has quotas to meet or something.
What is happening
All houses are safe! Stop asking!
This is getting out if hand. Now there are two of them?

I think we're down to 5 now. Maybe 6
14 on paper. Only 8 was modernized. The rest are still analog shit. 1 was damaged in belarus with a drone. 2 shot down.

>He was shooting from some unknown weapon. It was most likely not a Patriot but sometthng more serious.
Can you guys imagine if it was a lofted AMRAAM cued by glowBlack person SIGINT?
Would a lofted AMRAAM have that much range? Maybe this is a legit AMRAAM from an F-16
I meant a lofted AMRAAM as opposed to a ground-launched ones. My bet is also that the F-16s have arrived.
tbh as a prior chairforce boyo, not really a high chance of this being the case.
I don't think we gave them the G models, plus the first hit went into backup ir mode and smacked a flare, agm88s don't do that. However I'd love to know the feasibility of smacking an awacs in general with HARMS.
KEK
>plus the first hit went into backup ir mode and smacked a flare, agm88s don't do that
What is that was a chaff cloud released in conjunction with the flare?
First missile impact, they're probably dropping chaff too or a combi set, but they don't really *poof* like that.
There were multiple missiles in flight.

F-16 AMRAAM because I want it to be true
I've looked at a map, patriot can handle it: if you launch from very close to the front with appropriate missiles then it's close enough to the standard route of the plane. It fell down too far away, but it was flying just barely close enough before.
An-2 piloted by Budanov and Boris Johnsons hanging out the door on Starstreak duty

It was a french missile in retaliation to recent russian nuclear threat against french planes.
>recent russian nuclear threat against french planes.
Oh no!
My money is on Russian blue on blue, not even they are stupid enough to send an AWACS close to the front.
A gigantic fricking radar flying around a few miles above the ground is like a 10 million candela light in an open, dark field. The plane itself could be completely invisible to radar and they'd still be able to track it from fricking Poland.
The plane clearly returned under its own power
So who shot it down?
Ukrainian double agents in Air Defense
>The specialists of highest class. You cannot bring them from Central Asia.
Guess that's what happens when you treat 90% of your country like 2nd class regions compared to the areas in the west.
>90% of your country
these are literally colonial territories (see conquest of Siberia). Russia is the last remaining colonial empire, just has a direct land connection to the territories, unlike the more complained-about colonialists.
Spain is still colonial too, with their Basques, Catalans and Al-Andalucians
for fricks sake are you catalans still on about independence? it's been like 400 years, it's not happening.
I mean if you're gonna say Russia is a colonialist empire because of something that happened more than 300 years ago why not bring it up? Or talk about the US and Manifest Destiny and Chile and Argentina and their colonization. If you're gonna use communist fricking arguments might as well go whole hog and be consistent.
What makes Russians colonial is the fact that they keep saying that Russians being in places is justification to invade and further colonize those places, and they keep inserting Russians into more and more places. 1+1.
it's just race realism. look at pilot demographic in any western air force

Zero, because there's video of missiles hitting
I just see an explosion, no missile
>i can't see the air i breath must not be real
Have you seen the footage? It was shot down by some missile.
with explosion this bright and launching flares from its ass?
There is a chance of it happening but not this time
The A-50 was panic-spamming flares so it knew it was being painted by radar.

It is an ancient meme and I don't know the sauce but since you're new, I'll explain how we do this.
Click the little arrow next to the post number and select image search -> google
This does a reverse image search, usually. If it doesn't, expand the image in the thread, right click and copy the image URL and go paste that into google image search.
That will give you a reddit thread that lists several potential manga for it to have been from, you could go chase them down and maybe find the original.
It's fairly simple really.
>Person who has no idea how guns work draws a gun by copying a few parts they think look cool and slapping them together
Noguns don't know or care how guns actually function, as long as it looks cool and/or scary it's good enough for their fictional work.

Did they expect wings to be made of solid metal slab?
Grass looks remarkably unburnt
Homie, it's a part, not the full wreckage, not every single broken off piece catches on fire, that's usually fuel, munitions, and battery storage going up in flames. Ripped off wings can catch fire, but due to the open giant fricking hole usually any/all gas is gone by the time it hits the ground.
Birds that go boom generally have a 10 mile+ area where parts rain down in various sizes and density depending on altitude and how it goes down.
Some have a RUD event and it's more concentrated especially at lower altitudes, others not so much.
Wingtip or Horizontal Stabilizer?
Likely got ripped off on the way down by overspeed. That section wouldn't have fuel in it.
I doubt it, he's probably just saying it's a wing because of its hollow structure
>Wingtip or Horizontal Stabilizer?
Wingtip, Tail section is here
Serious question
If 350 000 000$ plane fails in middle of nowhere, get jumped by village fools, gets completely cannibalized. Can parts from it earn shit load of money? (not 350 mil but like 30-60?)
Probably not even 1 mil, but thats exactly what will happen
No
No.
But they can sell it to westerners for like $2k a kg if they can get it across the border to collectors.
You probably can salvage a few $$$ from metals if you know what to look for
soviet high-end electronics often have gold and other precious metals in them, it's possible to find if you know where to look
not really, anything good is damaged beyond repair and isn't worth the cost of striping, It is best to grab as many cables as you can carry and sell its copper
Blllllyyyyaaaaad vatnikbros that is 100% the horizontal stabilizer of an Il-76 pattern aircraft... quick, we need another narrative! Uhhh... it was another cargo plane carrying invisible krest HATO supersoldier prisoners!
(Me)
I called it
Its ZOVer
It could've been S-200.
Erm

My next minecraft world will be wild!
I'm sorry patriot-sama
what exactly am i seeing on this webm?
If you watch the full video it's a bit more obvious, it's dumping flares before getting hit and falling out of the sky
15 of russias most highly trained aviators in an irreplaceable $350 million aircraft screaming blyat to the radio, dropping decoy flares for 2 minutes straight as illiterate conscripts thinking they’ll get paid at all fire missile after missile at them till one hits.
Turn the sound on.
Dunno about A-50 but Su-27 countermeasures button launches both flares and chaff simultaneously.
>It knew it was being tracked by something heat seeking?
They do have quite a good radar so they'd know a missile is coming in and probably know a bit about what type too. Then it's just a matter of spamming countermeasures while trying to hit the deck I guess.
So what hit it? F-16? Secret patriot missle? Im intrigued
This genuinely could have been a case of friendly fire.
Patriot is most likely if it was the Ukrainians, those things have way more range than anyone seems to understand.
FIGHTERBOMBER ON SUICIDE WATCH, eternal flight btw.
what air-to-air missile that ukraine or russia has uses infrared at all either as a primary or back-up? since one missile hit a flare it seems like it should be easy to narrow it down from that
surface-to-air*
can we please find a way to Black personrig Meteors to Ukraine's remaining Su-27s
I want the MiG-31s to get a funny surprise
Very interesting to see how one of the flares seem to get hit. Looks like MANPADS fired by infiltrators to me but idk
how?
Did ukies actually start smuggling Manpads into Russia?
thats the only way I could see them doing this
>only 9 - 2 A-50M in service
Lol, just "world's second best military" things
How many A-50s does USA have in service?
thought so
blyat. It's over
Now its time for debris : on fire edition: https://twitter.com/bayraktar_1love/status/1761121208089690449?t=UoANjIfjvR1jN6EJRkcP8A&s=19
2 planes confirmed, in moon runes, apparently
/chug/ says it's still not a done deal anyway, so why are you guys so excited about it? After all, this is a land war, and even if Russia loses all of its mighty air and naval forces, it will still win. Or at least that's what they say.
Shut up tommy boy.
oi show me your license
They can say whatever they want, it doesn't change the fact they're all smelly Indians.
You probably look like the guy on the left? No? https://twitter.com/wartranslated/status/1760814841806127265
I... I... am at a loss for words here.
Every single fricking Russian should burn in agony in a lake of fire for this.
the world got way less cool and more shitty, sorry to say, bro.
>he doesn't remember Chechnya #1
>he doesn't remember Georgia
Sorry you got fooled by propaganda, but the signs were there.
Sometimes all it takes is one final thing for you to break free from a learned belief and radically rethink and change your opinion. Well done anon, just don't go too far the other way kek.
NO FRICKING WAY.
WHAT THE FRICK.
According to Na Marshe Z (@namarshe) - the plane was an Il-76TD. A Civilian variant of the Il-76 transport aircraft.
Shills will commit suicide if true, they really needed a win after so many bad news.
>Plane as the same assembly as the other plane it is based upon
Holy shit ivanon, you are of genius.
What a strange thing to say.
Do all russian civilian planes carry defensive flares?
STOP!!!!!
THE WAR HAS ALREADY BEEN WON BY RUSSIA
I hate to repeat myself, but...
Conclusions status?
>friendly fire again, the enemy had nothing to do with it again
I'm trying to imagine the state of seethe ziggers are in when they are forced to make this cope. It's psychological cuckoldry.
>It's psychological cuckoldry.
Literal too, cuckoldry is a surprisingly popular fetish in Russia.
Whats more dangerous to be in Russia:
1) VDV
2) A50 operator
It was S-200, case closed: https://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2024/02/23/7443442/
>Using dinosaur missile to bring down Russian AWACS
I am pretty sure that when my dad served in Soviet AA forces they were already obsolete
>Trust us bro, it was just an S-200
So either the Ukies used something far spicier than an S-200, or it really was just an S-200 and they would like the Vatniks to think it was possibly something spicier anyway. Only by correctly reading Budanov's face can you discern the truth.
Pretty obvious disinfo from HUR
i was told by General Sacks that this is what "total air superiority" looks like
Twitter is one of the biggest mistake of the 21st century
How does losing at least one fighter-bomber every day for a week translate to "total air superiority" and "Ukraine has run out"??????
I got a video of the wreckage, dunno if it was posted.
If anybody has telegram and can download these videos....
https://t.me/Crimeanwind/54341?single
https://t.me/Crimeanwind/54340?single
yt-dlp works, no need for a telegram account. thanks for linking.
for some reason I got the same file from both links. idk what is up with that
both telegram links that is. and then catbox merged them.
>Reportedly Su-34 got eternaled as well
cherry on top
You can hear the jets flying above in some of the debris videos. I wonder if they scrambled and one of their SU-?? got hit as a parting gift by Patriot-Sama.
Why do we keep assuming it was a patriot when we know Russia has a habit of shooting down their own shit?
Honestly it could be anything but the Russians have a bad habit of lying. They are claiming they shot down their own plane again and I just don't buy it. For a Russian it's better to appear to be an idiot than to give a victory, no matter how small, to your enemy.
I guess, but there is an extreme limit to how many Patriot missiles they have. We know it hasn't been a large amount.
I guarantee Uncle SAM is going to give the airplane's weight in missiles for a catch like this. Russians have like 6 modernized AWACS in total, and that's official numbers. Pays for itself!
Because Russians said that it was friendly fire, which automatically means its wasn't
Because every time the Russians "shoot down their own shit" its a cover by the Ministry of Defense for Ukrainians shooting it down dumbass
Now go and have a nice day tankie/vatnik scum.
You call me a communist vatnik but I'm not the one making communist arguments, you little spergy nerd.
Besides, how does Scotland and Belfast compare to London again? Or New York, Washington DC, Boston to Missouri, Michigan or Tennesse? Or French Guiana to Paris?
>Besides, how does Scotland and Belfast compare to London again?
They are very much nicer than London. London's a shithole.
t. Londoner
I'm not a homosexual leftist so I know you're all correct but here's what I would say if I was someone hanging things that happened more than 300 years ago over people's heads to say someone is imperialist:
That's not what the data says. And then I'd post charts and graphs of economic and financial data comparing those places. I think we know what they would show...
I know this because all these arguments are as old as Queen Victoria.
Places like Ann Arbor and Knoxville are nicer than NYC or DC.
And he goes straight back to the whataboutism without a shred of irony or self-awareness. Simply incredible.
If it was friendly fire they would have said it went down due to mechanical failure or something
Can't exactly do that when the aircraft was popping flares
Never underestimate the human capacity to deny blatant fact when it is inconvenient, especially when there is a genuine risk of harm to the one who accepts the fact instead. Besides, maybe malfunctioning of mechanic result in flares fall out of plane, da?
No, the Su-34 which got hit was launching shit from around Crimea
Are we at 1 airframe/day like the doctor prescribed yet?
Wait is picrel the same aircraft ?
>is picrel the same aircraft ?
No, that was the plane suspected to have been shot down alongside the last A-50 but it seemed to have made it down to the ground safe-ishly, only with serious damage and fatalities aboard.
Today is a whole new A-50.
I'm sorry, A-50 crew, but you're reeds now.
