you can’t make people dumber unless you physically damage their brain. memorising information isn’t intelligence. intelligence is an innate ability to recognise patterns, retain information and abstract it. you have that or you don’t. no amount of wikipedia will give you it

It's fun and causes no harm to the field of archeology. It's like ancient aliens for the sophisticated person.

Except it did. Some moron Indonesian nationalists published a journal paper saying that it was 25,000 years old and a pyramid. It had to be removed.
Graham also takes any opportunity he can in the show to smear the legitimate field of archaeology and say that archaeologists are trying to hide the true narrative of history for their own benefit.

      It's anti-intellectual, conspiratorial drivel

The academics on ironically need to be humbled at this point after the all the bullshit that has gone on for the past 3 or 4 years. They unironically think of themselves as unquestionable gods that live on an echelon above the "Common Man" because the university pays them to run comparative acidity-tests on cat urine (work that literally any idiot could be trained to do), but since it's technically done in a "laboratory" it makes them a "scientist".

Academia is overvalued for what it provides, a degree is worth next to nothing in today's world. Specific disciplines will still require academic training in the future, but the era of inflated college tuitions won't last forever because it doesn't provide the benefits it promises.

Academia depends on the money it gets from undergrads, PhD's ultimately do not pay the bills for a university. If you have fewer people signing up because the value of a Bachelor's degree isn't worth shit then you will have less money to pay for fancy research. This all happened because the unis decided to become degree printers rather than maintain their role as status providers.

              >gatekeep research because of their fragile midwitted egos and lack of grace
literally eveery government/university/research team in the world would throw money and manpower at it if they found actual, credible clues that there was a pre-ice age advanced civilization buried somewhere, because it would be the archaeological discovery of a century. governments would be stumbling over eachother to push this for the bragging rights alone
there is no gatekeeping in archaeology, hanwiener is just a guy who got laughed out the door by his peers because he didnt meet scientific standards of proof. and now he tries a grift with the more gullible average joe

Dude, this guy literally believes that Atlantis was a real place and they had astral travel and the ability to move shit around by levitating it with the right sounds. He doesn't say this shit in the Netflix series because he's trying to build a platform with people as having some interesting points that he can then use as a Trojan horse for his frankly insane takes on ancient civilisations.

If he's right about *anything* it's in the broken clock being right twice a day sense, at best.

So why did so many Mesopotamian cultures have the same myth of a gigantic flood that destroyed most of the land anyway? And they all treat it the same way, as though it really and truly happened. Really makes me think...

      Anonymous

There really is genuine evidence that the Black Sea actually did flood like 40,000 years ago or something. Considering pretty much all of humanity lived near there at that time from their perspective they probably thought that "the whole world flooded" because it would have seemed like that to them. So as they all went off in different directions they all had this story of the time the whole world flooded that got slightly changed and warped through the game of telephone that is human history

Because they lived on alluviated flood plains and it became incorporated into their mythologies as symbolic of life (fertility) and death (flood)

the tigris-euphrates river system was notoriously unstable with constant flooding and changing of the riverbeds, the people settling there had a hard time with devastation, even though the land proved to be very fertile.
its not too much of a stretch that this personal experience of regular catastrophe manifested in their beliefs of a "world flood"
the egyptians for example had no such thing in their belief because the nile was calm and stable, and flooded at regular predictable intervals, they built a mythology about water/rivers as life givers instead of destroyers because their cultural experience reflected this

And you think that would wipe out a civilisation? That would have traded, conquered, settled and held a territory much larger than just the coast.

I wish they'd make a Netflix series about prehistoric people who actually existed - namely, the Mammoth Hunters living along the ice wall 20000 years ago. They lived in huts made from mammoth bones on the frozen tundra and did this shit for like 7000 years.

Netflix has a really poor history documentary/docuseries selection in general. It's really sad especially with how popular docuseries have become in recent years that shit like Ancient Apocalypse gets made but not one over the many interesting groups that actually existed.

A pyramid made from stone is one of the simplest structures to build. It's not bewildering that humans around the world would build them once reaching a certain level of development independently of each other

he's right though. not in terms of specifics but his core concept is. the following information was revealed to me by a spirit who showed it to me in a dream. atlantis is real and was slightly more advanced than us. it was a warm temperate forest and it sunk 12000 years ago, its highest mountains became the azores islands. i also saw the civilisation of antarctica 200000 years ago, which was drastically more advanced than us. it later froze and the evidence is mostly buried under the ice except for select few areas which are still rainforest. i also saw the continent of mu some time before the atlanteans. their land was a lush and wet tropical jungle before it sunk. bear in mind that there are countless others i didn't see and that their respective climates were distinct from anything in the modern world, but i have told you the closest approximations.
