As Mr. Gershkovich uncovered, the myth of Putin’s resilient economy is nothing but a myth as the world economy no longer needs Russia and relegates it to backward isolation. Putin’s initial oil and gas windfalls have turned into dramatic budget deficits. Russia has lost most of its major gas markets thanks to the self-defeating gambit of withholding energy shipments from Europe. Meanwhile, the G7 oil price cap has seriously bit into oil profits as Putin finds out the hard way that it is always easier for consumers to replace unreliable commodity suppliers than it is for disreputable producers to find new markets.

Meanwhile, Putin is relying on lies and cannibalization to sustain his flailing economy, raiding corporate treasuries to the tune of trillions of rubles at a time, and drawing down his rainy-day reserves through unsustainable government spending. Combined with rising military costs, it is little wonder Russia ran a budget deficit exceeding 2% last year despite sky-high energy prices–and this year’s deficit is projected to be much worse amidst a massive exodus of talent, capital, and business, a collapse in trade, and plummeting domestic spending and production. Mr. Gershkovich was not exaggerating–or working for the CIA–when he wrote that “Russia’s economy is starting to come undone.” He was stating a fact.

russians are currently exhausting the reserves meant to be filling gaps if ukraine were to break the line, and they're doing it without using their defensive constructions.
that's not really something to be proud of, i got suspicious as soon as i saw russians throwing a counteroffensive with tanks/ifv's and well equipped troops at every captured village.
either russians are giving out another gesture of good will by not using their defenses and attacking instead, or russians know something about their ability to man those defensive lines that you and i don't and are throwing everything they have to prevent ukraine even getting to the first line.

You're completely wrong - the only problem with Central Europe was that the people there can't really agree on anything and waste their time and effort on petty squabbles while sandwiched by Germany and Russia. Putin unironically fixed that with his epic gamer move, so you'll probably get to see a new take on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which was actually pretty rich and powerful. Except this time it'll Poland, Ukraine, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, and the Baltics. France is already doing the math and aligning itself with this bloc over Germany's head.

Eastern Europeans for the most part do not hate each other, it is Serbs and Russians starting shit as always.
The only major conflict is between Hungarians and Romanians.
There is some animosity between Lithuanians and Polish, but that seems to have been healing, as well as Macedonians and Greeks but they also seem to have moved forward in their relations.
Everyone else has either neutral to positive relations with each other.

It is also extremely dishonest to say that Catholic/Protestant countries and Orthodox Russia have "small differences" between them, culturally or historically.

So you believe that Latvians are as smart, honest, and hard working as Polish people?

                Anonymous

What does my personal opinion based on experience or stereotypes of two people that I may or may not have has to do with the practical reality that on national level there is actually minimal real animosity between Eastern Europeans, especially those that part of EU?
The original point was about hatred, now the question is being moved onto about stereotypes.

The differences Latvians and Polish have as nations can not be described under "small differences" to qualify for what is being described in that picture. That describes why people from Warsaw and Krakow might have conflict with one another, it is not applicable to most Eastern European countries when related to each other.

pic related is the reason why they hate Russia and each other

to work as an explanation, which it doesn't, as Latvians and Polish have positive relation on a international level.
If instead you meant to say Lithuanians and Polish, then there might be some of this narcissism referred into the picture at play, but even with the whole Vilnius affair, Poland and Lithuania have strengthened their relationship and seem to be moving past it.
If you are trying to imply that Latvians and Lithuanians are one in the same with minor differences, that is neither true nor would it matter as Latvia and Lithuania have very good relationship with each other.

The original post implied that Eastern Europeans hate each other because they are similar, when in reality most Eastern Europeans are indifferent at worst about each other and to say that all Eastern Europeans are the same could only be said by someone who thinks history started in 20th century.

As for Russia, to say Russia is disliked by Eastern Europe only because they are too similar could only be said by someone who knows nothing of history or current events.

You laugh but the Russian military is pretty good at adapting. Their entire history in every war is:
      >get shat on and humiliated
      >regroup
      >rev up the artillery spam machine
      >slowly crawl back and turn the tide

Like yeah they take losses that would be considered monstrous by Western standards but it does eventually work. Look at drones. They were getting memed on by drones at the beginning, they invested loads into it and adapted and now they're quite effective with drones themselves.

Thing is, RF's ability to take "monstrous losses" is somewhat hampered compared to the USSR since 1) RF doesn't have 14 extra countries (including Ukraine itself) to pull men from, 2) male russian population unironically hasn't quite recovered from the previous major war 80 years ago, and 3) it's a highly urbanized and somewhat westernized country in which the oil money had trickled down somewhat over the course of 2000s and formed a vestigial middle class that's used to a certain level of comfort.
Note how quickly the mobilization was declared to be over, especially in Moscow: it barely lasted two months.

Slowly crawl back and turn the tide? I guess Ukraine really is turning the tide more and more on the Russian over time, that is true. Slowly gaining ground back from the invaders. Pushing them back in to the attacking country. The big leader who claims to have rebuild his country and goes on wars of expansion, claiming that the land is rightfully theirs.

If I look at history it seems a lot more likely that this will end with Putins teeth having to be examined to know if he is dead or not.

As for the Russian army as a whole, I doubt there's much learning going on because without a functional NCO cadre, you don't retain much institutional knowledge. Like it can't be overstated how important NCOs are for teaching lessons learned.

Tbh, given the attrition and casualty rates, I think other militaries like Turkey, China, and the US are gaining much more valuable experience by being able to see what works and how without fighting the war themselves, than either Russia or Ukraine is getting. Russia and Ukraine are getting a lot of experience, but they are hollowing out their militaries in doing so, and so to what extent those experiences will stick is another question.

The iraqi army under Saddam heading into the gulf war was one of the most veteran armies in the world and they got bodied by young westerners who had never seen a war before.

This is a bit of a meme. They couldn't even beat Iran with the US and half the world supporting them

Iran is a country several times the size of Iraq, both in terms of population and geography. Iran's terrain is incredibly treacherous as well while Iraq is relatively open.

A couple of surviving mobiks will be on par with the original professional soldiers that Russia had pre war. At best.

    >After the end of the war, will the Russian Army be the most experienced army in the world?
Iraq spent 10 years fighting Iran, ended the war with thousands more tanks and other heavy weapons then it began with, got rolled in 15 minutes by an entirely inexperienced but well equipped and trained US Army.
Russia will end this war demilitarized of modern weapons with a bunch of poorly trained traumatized mobniks who are very experienced at compulsively looking up 3 times a minute and get a thousand yard stare at the sound of the blender spinning up.

      >bunch of poorly trained traumatized mobniks
The remaining VDV seem like the only decently trained assault troops, and their arty, air, and naval fleets will survive the war mostly intact. It's their dogshit infantry and lack of combined arms ability that prevents any offensives. Russia is going to stay in a defensive crouch and bleed out for years. There won't be a male under 50 left in LNR and DNR provinces.

Dude, their arty has lost thousands of systems already, their airforce is run ragged and their navy was a joke to start with.

        >and bleed out for years
LMAO. They don't have year of this left in them.

Post-war they may have achieved 100% casualty rate for the their entire professional army corps which will be a rare feat. Anyone left will be a technician but ground soldiers will be 100% mobiks

Last time I checked you needed to be alive in order to put your experience to use. At the moment the only thing the russian army is experienced at is sitting in muddy trenches slowly getting droned to death and sodomizing their fellow soldiers.

Ukraine is already the most advanced military in Europe. Don't get me wrong, the French would mop them. And the French would mop Russia too. This isn't the point. Ukraine is a new regional power. Period.

And they will be allied with both Turkey and Greece.

No because people seem to forget that Russia (and a lot of European countries) are conscript armies, these armies get next to 0 experience from war to war because almost everyone leaves after the war and never comes back.
A fully professional army like with the UK or US is more capable of learning due to people staying in much longer on average qnd actually able to use the gained experience.
