The only flying 6th gens within the next ten years will be the USAF NGAD and USN NGAD (F/A-XX).
The other non-American aircraft on this list will be generation 5.5 in capability when they enter service 5+ years later

NGAD because it will actually be produced in quantity, and it's avionics and weapons will actually perform at least half as well as advertised. The nip offering will probably use a bunch of US avionics as well and will also be decent. Meanwhile the Mig-41 will be the butt of jokes such as "Well my Husband works for Sukhoi, and all he does is sit on the edge of the bed and tell me how good it's going to be when I get it." like every other Russian wunderwaffe.

      Anonymous

The difference between the two will be similar to that of the F-15 and F-16. Of all those, my money is on what Japan’s building. America is now building with diversity and equity, so whatever they make, won’t be as good as the shit that was made upto the 2000s.

NGAD is gonna be the new F-15, F/A-XX is gonna be the new F-14

      Anonymous

One is USN, and the other is USAF.

O.K., seriously now, that really *does* make a difference. The two services have different doctrines, different priorities, different requirements. There have been times when the same plane could adequately serve both masters, but more often than not, those differences have been too great to overcome. For example, the F-15 was the superior dogfighter, and far less of a hangar queen; but, it wasn't really large enough to carry 6xAIM-54 out to several hundred miles to intercept Backfires coming in with AS-4s or AS-6s; hence, the F-15N lost to the F-14.

In the case of 6th-gens, the USAF needs something with enough legs to operate across the Pacific from very distant bases outside of IRBM ranges. It's probably going to cost as much as a bomber, so they'll be lucky to afford a couple hundred of them to replace the F-22s. To make up for that, they plan to make heavy use of companion drones, which means NGAD may be a 2-seater, making it even larger and heavier.

F/A-XX, on the other hand, is expected to be longer-ranged than bugs, but perhaps not as long-ranged as NGAD; which makes sense, because the CVN can dodge IRBMs in ways that an airbase can't. It's also limited in size and weight by the abilities of catapults to launch it and hangars and elevators to fit it. While companion drones are a possibility, for now the USN has balked at any such thing and is relegating UAVs to refueling duties (retiring the A-6 family and the S-3s was a shortsighted mistake) for now.

There's also the issue of manufacturers. The USAF has gotten pretty comfortable in dealing with LockMart; Grummans have been landing on flattops for 90 years. There's a fair bit of institutional knowledge built up there (as someone pointed out in a recent thread, the Super Hornet was designed by MDD prior to the merger, so corporate Boeing hasn't won a fighter contract in a century, and given their recent performance with the KC-46 and the P-8...).

The Mig will be the best stealth plane ever because no one will ever see it
The NGAD will probably be good, but the program will probably run over budget and become a political talking point as per usual.
I have high hopes for the Tempest since Bae is making it and the swedes make some cool shit as well.
The Mitsubishi will be okay, but not at the level of the previous two. Still, it will be better than anything the chinese make in more than a decade, which is the only thing that matters to the japs.
The FCAS program will be dysfunctional as frick due to france and germany disagreeing on things, but if they manage to pull through, it will probably be at least decent
The F/A-XX is a big question mark. It could get scrapped entirely and be replaced by an F35 modification

  24. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

I really like the shitty render of the Russian plane and how it defies basic aerodynamics. You can tell the design Mach of an aircraft by the wing sweep with a simple equation. It's the reason subsonic aircraft have straight wings like the A-10 and most general aviation aircraft, then you go into airliners designed for Mach ~0.8 getting into the transonic regime with small wing sweep, then you get into fighters and the SR-71 with drastically more wing sweep. It's the reason variable swept wings like the F-14 and MiG-23 existed. The stupid "MiG-41" depiction at best could reach Mach 2 with how far the wings go out. Pic related, an X-15's shockwave at Mach 3.5. The faster it goes, the sharper the shockwave. You want the shockwave to not be touching the wingtips or you run into high drag and low controllability.

Short story, the British filth lied, like they always do. They "gave" the tech to their fellow eurotrash in the a tech sharing program.
Eu Eurotrash have this big dream of being the #1 superpower and they were all going to work on the FCAS to show those dirty Americans what was what (with American tech) with their shit clone of the F-22/ F35.
British and the EU never really loved each other and the British left, so that put them on the outside.
Swede parasites also wanted the tech for their Saab shit, so Swede trash got into the program.
British are useless scum, who do not have an airspace industry worth a shit and they don't have the money nor the brain power to tinker with the tech nor manufacture aircraft, so they went looking for a host to parasite off... and now they have the Japanese.

USA never should have been in WW1, WW2, and NATO should have never been a thing.
Eurotrash should be killing each other, just the way its always been. One eurotrash country allies with another, then back stabs it allying with another to attack the former. That is who they are and what they are.
George Washington was correct: the USA should stay out of alliances and foreign problems.

Literally none of them exist. Most people will predict the NGAD simply based on experience and budget. But who knows maybe the euros with JPs will create something? Russia simply can’t due to poor funding and tech base. China is too far behind in tech and manufacturing.

  28. 10 months ago

Actually instead of another failed euro project France should man up and try breaking into the 6th gen on their own. Brits could, too. Germans seem too far behind in aerospace though. I wouldn't be surprised if an X or Y designated prototype airframe is doing flight testing. Everyone fixates on the plane but NGAD's secret sauce is the full system. The airframe is the easy part really. YF-22 was flying a decade before the production examples entered service anyways so there is a substantial lead time on these things.

Either NGAD or FA-XX, because American shit actually works and we're the only country ballin' enough to make more than two prototypes and three production models.

Why is the Mig-41 even included in a stealth NGAD list when it has two big fricking missiles under the wings that completely negates stealth

are 2 us programs really necessary?

Yup, if one turns out to be a flop we’ve got the second, also ones Air Force and ones navy, they get pissy when you make them use the others toys but it’s better than an outright broken one.

we tried unified objectives with the F-35; tremendous success, but both AF & Navy want something more specialized. AF wants to offload actual support & interception to drones to protect pilots while taking advantage of an envelope not partially limited by carrier service, Navy wants something with a fatter load & different focus to guard carriers more efficiently, both are keeping F-35 around as a test bed and to act as sensor buoys for their new big brother(s) in respective forces.

being carrier-capable puts a shitton of restrictions on the airframe that are completely redundant in USAF's context

Mig-41 is just a fictional jet made up by some deviantart artist more than a decade ago, I don't understand how it keeps appearing in these lists?

BAE Tempest. It has the coolest name

It’s a tossup between the Tempest or the NGAD. Only two real performers on the list.

    >F/A XX
It’s going to be, performance wise, the F-35 to NGAD’s F-22. It won’t be bad for a naval aircraft, but it’s nothing special.

    >FCAS
Made by Germany, Spain, and France. So Germany and France. What does Spain provide to this partnership? Who knows? They don’t have money, they don’t have expertise, maybe they provide the approval committee with prostitutes. The two b***hiest countries in the EU are working on a project together with nobody to keep them away from each other’s throats. The only way it could get any worse is if Greece joins and starts asking everybody if they can spare some change.

    >Mitsubishi F-X
If the Japs would build it, it would be a pretty decent plane. But instead they’ll do what they always do and slightly modify the American model like they did with the F-2. (Which, unrelatedly, is the only time in human history Asians have said something made by Americans was too small)

    >MiG 41
Like all Russian aircraft since the USSR collapsed, (though even before it wasn’t much better) it will come out a decade late at twice the cost and half the performance. At most, and single digit number of hand-built models will rust on the tarmac after flying a couple dozen hours.

Aerial performance is not key for 6th gen. Lethality, networking and survivability are

NGAD bears the greatest similarity with the f23 so it's obviously the best

All of those foreign made aircraft were made with stolen US technology.
I hate all of our so called "allies". Biggest group of parasites that ever lived.
The USA should get rid of all of our so called allies. Useless filth, especially our so called allies in NATO countries.
Allowing these filth into the JSF F-35 was the largest proliferation of stealth technology... and all of these parasites lied and stole the technology to proliferate it to others.
Nothing lower than Eurotrash... they would stab anyone in the back and sell their own mothers for a few coins... truly worse than israelites.

didn't FCAS and the japanese project merge ages ago?
anyway none of the listed countries aside from America have enough internal market demand to actually fund industries of scale for a project like that. If the entirety of europe, south korea and japan comes together things might be different but as it stands right now all these projects will end up like Zumwalt
