OP I tend to carry my 8 shot j frame in 22lr. I would rather have 8 22s instead of 5 .38s because it's way easier to shoot and much cheaper to practice with.

I love revolvers as much as anyone else, but this is not true. If you stop the cylinder from rotating, you stop the gun from firing. It's unlikely that an attacker would have the presence of mind to think of this, and even less so to actually achieve it, but it is certainly possible.
Improbably to the point of impossibility is the same thing as far as what you use to plan your gear choices. I'd say the odds of an auto jamming due to ammo/limp-wrist/feeding related reasons are exponentially higher than whatever scenario you imagine where someone has the presence of mind to grab the cylinder of a revolver fast enough not to get shot.
