308 Gas Gun

I have been wanting a 308 DMR for a while now, but the more I do research the more it seems there is no viable option unless you want to shell out for a SCAR, HK417, or KAC. Are there any 308 gas guns worth buying that don't cost an arm and a leg?

      Rogue, DI Revolution, or SFAR?

Supposedly the Rouge/SFAR are more catered to hunting while the Revolution is more of a battle rifle and a direct contender with the XM7, the piston variant of course.

Why is everyone recommending piston crap

Its any semi auto 308 with ranging reticle on top.

So...even if you bought the parts slowly when you see them go on sale eventually you'll have a pretty good gun

    No.

Just get a bolt action, reload, and enjoy shooting for cheaper without needing to worry about how your loads function in an autoloader or the additional case maintenance that introduces. Dealing with higher ammo costs because you're afraid of missing is moronic.

Yes anon, the government wants you to be able to practice more and be more resistant to ammo shortages.

          >more resistant
Bolt actions still shoot bullets moron. You're not more resistant to ammo shortages, it shoots the same frickin cartridge.
          >nooo but I mean some dogshit fudd caliber not a mainstream .308
Yeah good luck nogunz those were the first things to go out of stock and the last to come back when shortages hit.

Believe whatever you want anon. Just know that if you were to actually sit down, do some research, and think about this issue rather than thinking you already know everything, you'd realize that you're wrong.

Shut up you stupid nogunz Black person. When shit gets real they drop manufacturing and brass production on all your dogshit rounds nobody actually buys, and only produce .308, .22lr, 5.56, and 9mm.

Sig does seem to be experts on making cringe shit. They go full moron with the legion line. That yellow plate reminds me of the lip protectors some guys leave on their Challengers. Thankfully it can be removed.

They’re fine, just be aware there might be some differences along the top of the upper receiver due to nuSig reusing their piston upper for the 716i so there’s a bit of height spec differences. Like you can’t drop in any charging handle because they’re too thick, gotta buy a 716i CH.
Their BCG gas key looks higher as well. I am gonna guess the gas block is higher than most standard too.

I would just say buy the best 18" or 20" ar10 you can afford and you will be just fine. What is an optimal optic for this setup is the next real question.

Probably not in any meaningful numbers. Kind of wished DD R&D’d something for the NGSW.

Hell if you want a cheap usable rifle why not go for the PSA AR-10s or a M&P 10. Why go full send for minimal gain when you could save money for glass and have a rifle with similar quality

Don't think I've seen or heard of any issues with PSA-10s, though the couple I did shoot were rental guns when I was shopping for a rifle so I guess it's possible they were worn in pretty well

I simply got a lighter barrel and I've been happy with it. I'm sub MOA at 100 yards with decent ammo, things get interesting in match rounds. All that weight is their oddly heavy stock barrel. Their .338 Federal barrels aren't as heavy. If I had to guess, I'm thinking their stock barrel is for a damned chain fed machine gun. I then had the lightweight barrel fluted. Not only did I get a noticable improvement in accuracy, I got a very noticable improvement in that infamous LMT MWS nose heaviness. She's my bottom b***h workhorse. She's also why I never skip my upper body days, or legs. I also make a point to find positions that help me offset the weight where I can. Battle rifles are battle rifles. DMR's are a different animal. It's exactly like comparing German Shepherds to Great White Pyrenees. A Pyrenees can also make a great guard dog (battle rifle role), but you sure as frick don't want to leave your sheep flock with lambs (DMR role)with German Shepherds and no supervision. The big clue is the swappable barrels.. It's to change your mode more effectively if you need to change the mission. If I'm going to be in a tight area with no real need or ability for longer shots or severe penetration, I go to the .338 Federal, much more knock down in your face organ splatting. Especially with supersonics. I have a .300 Blackout like load I use in .338 Federal. On goes the wet can for sneaky guy mode. I use my own jellied volatile coolant that brings me down only to the hammer and bolt noise. The bullet impacts are usually the loudest part. Things falling can be surprisingly loud.

Sig tread 716 for 1500, very nice, sturdy service rifle. Shoots great for the price too. Pic rel is my setup with it

I have considered that one. What kind of accuracy are you getting?

        Anonymous

3-4 moa with standard ball, milsurp or Winchester from a bench, no rest. I've seen videos of people getting 1 moa with a new rifle and match ammo but it's not a precision rifle really, it's a battle rifle and the accuracy you get reflects that. If you want to do precision stuff I'd look at a different rifle, but otherwise it's a very nice rifle
