Trying to figure out a problem with a 6.4.
It had a shudder under acceleration, puffs white/gray.
Idles fine.
Relative compression diff is 0%
No engine related dtc's

First place I go with Ford questions is the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum which has a shitload of line mechanics current and retired. Mine are much older than yours so I'm unable to help directly.

Thanks
Either that or find a facebook page dedicated to that specific range of years and engine. There is a wealth of info on those as well.
With what you are describing I'd say there is some fuel system shenanigans going on. Could be computer/sensor related or a mechanical problem. I'm not well versed in those newer diesels though... 7.3 powerstroke is about the newest stuff I mess with. My wife does have a 2007 Dodge with the common rail 5.9 which I have had to do a few things to, but even that is too new for my liking.
I'm thinking top end, maybe rockers because the truck did this
When I bought it about 60k km ago.
supposedly the hpfp and injectors were done 80k ish ago
injector problem, cylinder contribution code. could ba a loose connection, bad Injector, bad harness.
Cyl 8 when over 1500 rpm when the shudder occurs throws a contribution issue.
I know its easier to be a fricking piece of shit then helpful but try a little
Black person, I own the 2nd shittiest ford engine. Wife ran it empty, kept cranking fricking an injector up, blew white smoke till I replaced them. ficm harness was having issues and had a cylinder 8 contribution issue. replaced harness that was degraded, problem fixed. also blew the ball bearing plug out of HPOP that was a pain to fish out and had to clean all the shit out.... now my 6.0 ringed, studded new main bearings etc. b***h bess last a while.

>injector problem
White "smoke" is usually steam. Maybe a coolant leak.
Looks more like unburnt diesel smoke then coolant steam.
Talked to a tech yesterday, his guess was collapsed lifter, bent rod, fricked rocker, something like that.
Wouldn't misfires trigger an error code? Also, a bent rod would have affected compression.
It did, over 1500 rpm on a diagnostic
Still not helpful, Black person
>It did, over 1500 rpm on a diagnostic

A collapsed filter might produce shuddering/misfires, but not the smoke. Could be the rocker arm on the exhaust valve. If the rocker is slipping off the push rod or valve, it could be keeping the valve closed, meaning the engine is compressing on the exhaust stroke. That would be the most likely cause of a violent shudder. If that gas is not being evacuated, and you spray more fuel, there's no fresh O2 to burn, you get a misfire, and diesel out the exhaust (assuming the valve opens that time).
if its only a rocker I'll be surprised but that would be awesome.
Planning on pulling the valve cover this weekend
How do I ascertain rocker failure from lifter/cam/ something else causing the rocker to fail?
The problem is that it's a Ford
you know what Ford stands for? Fix It Again Tony
>t had a shudder under acceleration, puffs white/gray.
Sounds like a low/no fuel moment. My guess is a dirty or bad injector(s) or clogged filter.
I did the fuel filters this week, problem persists, also the injectors passed buzz and are fairly new.

What in the frick
>How do I ascertain rocker failure from lifter/cam/ something else causing the rocker to fail?
There might not be anything wrong with those parts now that I see that sludge. If there's sludge on the valve, that might be plugging up the exhaust port, especially since this is direct injection engine. It's recommended you have the valves cleaned every 5 years on such an engine.
The rocker clip was laying on the head, something caused it to pop out.
Yeah its dirty AF it was run cheap 15/40 for 400k and unknown if it was changed at proper intervals.
I'm trying to pull the rocker arms, the part that pushes on the bridge looks like its gone or almost gone.
Rods seem straight but plugged up.
Wear tip fell out of the rocker arm when I took it out, no idea where the retainer clip is.
Should I replace the rockers bridges and push tubes?
How can I check for lifter / can failure with out ripping more of the engine apart?
Going to be hard to ensure timing is right without getting timing cover off and exposing the cam shaft. Your already farther than 99% of people would ever go, so good on you. See it through.
your moronic
top end tear down best bet, clean the shit too.
You know what Ford stands for.
Fix it again tony
well I bought a fricking bore scope but it wont fit in the injector port so now ive ordered a 5.5mm smaller one that will. will post some pics for the cylinder condition aficionados when the right one shows up.
also will it be possible to get this camera on the cam by going in the top of the head?
They already circled the problem on the front of your truck.
Fuel pump
Easy replacement
did you even look at the picture of the rockers?
Piston
What is that green shroud?
Probably varsol and gunk from the valve train, I thought I pushed the injector back in far enough to seal but I guess not.
Noticed an area on the cylinder that a few of these pits on it
Is this major? And what causes it
