Fricking wrong. Tokmak railway is still too far for normal ukie artillery to shell it. Only pzh2000 with special ammo and HIMARS can reach there. Pzh2000 would need to be danger close to the front to shell it and ukies don't have enough ammo for HIMARS to shell railway day after day.

M777 has a range of 24km using conventional rounds and goes out significantly further using base bleed ammunition, the Tokmak junction is very much within range of all their western artillery systems
Even if they did have to rely on the Pzh (70km range with the same ammo) that b***h is more than fast enough to get in and out once an hour without getting shwacked and once an hour with an accurate gun is all you need to keep a railway non functional

Not only does it deprive Russia of transport infrastructure that would be useful when the bridge is taken out, it also deprives them of amphibious capability in a pot4ential assault on Odessa which although unlikely still pressures Ukraine to keep troops in the city so as not to be caught off-guard. In eliminating Russia's capacity entirely, this frees up defences to be used elsewhere in the conflict.

And yes, they are being used as logistic transports currently, in addition to the above, regardless of what you believe.

Ukraine's summer offensive was also to cut off Russian rail lines in Zaporistia, which it failed to do which is a big deal. If they had cut that off, Russian lines may have collapsed. There's a ticking timer as Russia is planning to build a new rail line outside of artillery range.

Deeply involved, moron. There are tens of thousands of Naval Infantry in Ukraine right now supplementing their light infantry. The NI Guards have been so badly hammered that they've reconstituted multiple times. And without a naval presence, an attack on Crimea would be a fait accompli for Ukraine.

OK let me walk you through it
As you are probably not aware, the east/west railway line out of Donetsk city (why this is the only line running along Ukraine's southern coast is a question you would need to ask the Soviets) has been cut just west of Donetsk city since before the start of the war, as the Ukrainians have held positions keeping that stretch of railway within artillery range ever since Russia's initial invasion in 2014 and the Russians have been completely unable to dislodge them.
This was always a problem, but not a critical one since there is also a line heading out of Rostov-on-don, across the Kerch strait and through Crimea by which the troops on the southern landbridge could still be resupplied.
Unfortunately for the Russians, this is no longer the case because while Ukraine's great southern counter offensive might not have gotten them to the black sea it DID get them to a little town called Robotnye, which just so happens to be within artillery range of the Tokmak rail junction.
This means that the rail line servicing the southern land bridge is now cut on both ends, leaving the section between Tokmak and Donetsk city almost completely cut off from rail based resupply, with the only option the Russians have left for the delivery of supply at the necessary scale being the port of Berdyansk
Hopefully, that should be enough for you to figure out why those landing ships were in the area, and why the Ukrainians are targeting them so aggressively

Even if they did have to rely on the Pzh (70km range with the same ammo) that b***h is more than fast enough to get in and out once an hour without getting shwacked and once an hour with an accurate gun is all you need to keep a railway non functional

You're right, by accident i wrongly checked distance and i doubled it, my bad. But still, in long time i didn't heard anything about ukies shelling tokmak and even russian sources don't mention logistic issues on southern front. it seems either ukies don't have enough artillery rounds to shell tokmak because of all ammunition shortages or it's just too dangeours to keep artillery in that little pocket around robotyne.

Even if they did fire from as far away as Orkhiv, one excalibre round (40 km pinpoint range) per track, per day, is about all they need to keep the rail line closed.

Seems wasteful to use a guided shell on a stationary target, base bleed shells fired from the right guns can make that distance just as easily for a fraction of the price

Sure, but I'm just saying it could be done from that far away if necessary - if for whatever reason that was the only option, since he chose Orkhiv.

all of Robotnye and a good chunk of the surrounding countryside is under Ukrainian control and has been since the counter offensive "failed"
as a bonus, the M777 has the shortest range of their western made big guns and is therefore the only piece they wouldn't be able to use if they were firing from positions north of the town and even then that is only if they are using conventional shells, base bleed shells can still easily make that distance with range to spare

Hopefully, that should be enough for you to figure out why those landing ships were in the area, and why the Ukrainians are targeting them so aggressively

and maybe consider reading the whole thread before running your pretty little mouth next time

The west (or at least america) doesn’t want Ukraine to win, they merely want to be sure Ukraine doesn’t lose.
The west has no vision for what to do with Russia. They have no plan for Russian or the region and it leaves them reactive, it’s part of why Putin had enjoyed repeated regional successes in the past. He finally stepped just a hair over the line but I honestly think if he’d just taken the area that is currently occupied the west might have done nothing at all.
This is only beginning to change, but really, America and much of the west doesn’t want Putin out. They’re almost as scared of the 90s again as he is, and ditto with Libya and Syria. Libya they succeeded in their play but at what cost? And Syria was plunged into chaos for no gain and huge domestic unrest in Europe. They installed Yeltsin in Russia for a reason, because a strongman thug in charge of a large military and nuclear arsenals better than civil war, chaos, Islamists and warlordism feuding over military stockpiles and nukes. We all talk about the brutality of grozny but can you imagine if Chechen Islamists were free to send small arms, RPGs and actual military vehicles across the world? Or god forbid if some moron like Medvedev or Islamist got their hands on nukes? That’s at least how the US sees it
A stable adversary is better than an unstable one. And so Putin will be bled and then when Russia goes back to its corner the west will probably shift gears, slowly, back towards attempting to use liberalism and market forces to slowly shift them into a liberal democracy in the fringes of the west.

Those 2 ships were hauling roughly 1200 tons of artillery shells and drones.
    That's about 80 rail cars.

Ships allow you to haul more faster. Take out the hauling ships that can unload with their own cranes, everything has to go through rail. Rail can be severed constantly very easy.

The entire modern world is built on steel ships. If we had wood ships we couldn't haul as much and most of the world would die.

This is why America is obsessed with air, space and naval ships. It's just basic reality. Rail cars, trucks, airplanes nothing can replace the cost, speed and weight a boat could do. They effectively just deprived the Russians of 2,000,000 lbs a week of mostly artillery shells

i agree; we should send a million shells to ukraine - many of them guided

Oh and the Czech super genius plan to get a million shells to Ukraine? Buy them outside of Europe. That's it. That's the genius plan. Why the hell didn't anyone think of that before? There was some stupid regulation it had to be NATO or European aligned countries.

No, use the entire world as Ukraine's factory. Duh.

the Czechs are simply the designated brokers slash "fall guys" of the shell story, they will conveniently vanish the paper trail of where the shells are coming from
it's understood that these are from contributors who wish the source of the shells to be obfuscated. that's hard to do in a a highly rigidly law abiding society like for example the UK

We didn't know it beforehand obviously. Even I believed we'd get to Melitopol in no time. We were pumped and ready, as infantry. But there was only so much infantry could do.
I'm sure if you gave our stuff to the Americans and told them to break through those defensive lines with almost no air presence, they'd laugh at you.

                Anonymous

But that's the thing, high command was most likely aware of how heavy the defenses were. Just seems to me that the leadership felt goaded into doing "something" because the Western leaders were making noises about all the great support they had provided, if only the ukies would do something with all the stuff they received. Which got high command railroaded into a particular hopium-heavy course of action.

Yeah, the counteroffensive was widely advertised here, everyone was overconfident. At some point our president had no choice but to proceed despite any warnings because he's mainly a media figure like Trump and not a real statesman like Churchill.
We were still at our absolute peak back then. You wouldn't believe how low we fell, and I don't think we would ever recover our infantry to a decent level. And without infantry you can't take land back. I just hope we won't lose much more.

I think blaming Zele is somewhat misplaced. He makes decisions based on what info he's fed. And I'd say a fair number of military people suffered from overconfidence, or felt pressured just like he was. Also while he may have given the go-ahead, the actual execution wasn't on him. Had high command went with a foot assault from the start, they would've discovered the defenses were way stronger than anticipated without getting a shitton of expensive equipment converted into scrap (and the crews into mincemeat). Also, they seemed exceedingly hesitant to call the whole thing off, once it started going sideways.

We switched to small tactical groups almost immediately, and 90% of our equipment was lost slowly, bit by bit. Almost none of it was replaced, so that's another problem - very shallow reserves.
I blame equally the Americans and our leadership for it. The only right choice was to dig in and wait for the planes. But even now when the lessons are learnt, the support ongly grows weaker, which is turning this mess into a generational war. The absolute worst outcome after such a promising start.

                >We switched to small tactical groups almost immediately, and 90% of our equipment was lost slowly, bit by bit.
Why continue pushing into what were going to be frantically-defended areas, once you got a real look at how tough the opposition was going to be? Why not go "welp, we're not going to push through, the pidors are too rabid, and heavily dug in, we should pack up before we lose too much".
                >Almost none of it was replaced, so that's another problem - very shallow reserves.
But that's the thing. There were never going to be any real reserves. You can't set up heavy vehicle factories in Ukraine, because they'd get whacked by missiles. You can't get a lot of stuff from abroad either, because there's not enough available, and production is slow. You need to guard what you already have, and use it as sparingly as possible.

It's not gonna happen. Mayeriel in a war like this is fundamentally disposable. Whole brigades are disposable and only last for a few months before requiring a deep restoration. It's a neverending process, that's why we got a single fricking Browning mg in our battalion and the pidors ride golf cars.

Well, my final point is that, yes, the situation is quite a bit frickier than in March 2023, but nevertheless you lot have to keep hanging on. There's genuinely no point to any other course of action, regardless of Western support levels. The pidors will never stop trying to conquer you and beat you into the dirt, for the capital crime of trying to live better than them. One way or another, today, tomorrow, in a decade's time, they'll keep coming for you, as long as their slavemasters keep acting the way they do. So why should you stop trying to defend?

You can't keep pretending your country isn't facing an existential threat.

That's just wishful thinking on your part. Remember that the homosexual-in-chief believes you are "unsalvageable" because you rebelled in December 2013, kept moving westwards between 2014 and 2021, and didn't fold in February 2022. You will be purged in a second Holodomor. Again, by contrast, the Belorussians were spared the worst excesses because a) they've been ruled by Luka since times immemorial; b) they folded back in summer 2021. You kept being defiant, so you will be shattered. Chief homosexual said as much, in that hastily withdrawn article from 26th Feb 2022. Therefore, there's no real cost to resisting. The result of defeat is the same as the result of surrender. You will not be treated any more leniently if you acquiesce their demands.
