            >recoil
            >a rifle designed for the last war (not really the rifle's fault though)

Siggers claim the weight isn't that bad and it's only 9.34lbs, ignoring the mag, suppressor, and optic. Even when a M4 is tricked out it's still 2+lbs lighter, not accounting for ammo, which is 20% more weight with the XM7. Mag capacity and total combat load is down 33% while weighing 2.4lbs (40%) more. The battle rifle concept isn't good anymore. Volume of fire matters more than the power of individual rounds. We've seen this proven true in just the US perspective in the civil war, spanish-american war, WWI, WWII, and Korea. We saw it with the M14 in Vietnam. The majority of the world isn't Afghanistan. A rifle made to fight there lacks in most places. Rather than acknowledge the downsides they are dismissed entirely.

Also the flexing MCX handguard which is the same handguard as the XM7. I'm sure there won't be any problems there though.
All I have to say is lol. Lmao.

            >Do you have *any* empirical, photographic, or first-hand testimonial evidence to support either of your claims?
Yes I absolutely do. It’s a matter of public record that the army changed powder type which changed port pressure which caused them to run inconsistently. All without consulting Stoner, Sullivan, or Armalite. It’s also a well known matter of of public record that M16s were not issued with cleaning kits. So much so there were congressional hearings in the 60s and the army made a fricking comic to tell troops how to clean there rifles. If you don’t believe me listen to Jim Sullivan. Who is arguably more qualified to talk about the M16 than Eugene Stoner was.

There are also firsthand accounts from Stoner of when they were failing army trials and he saw them firsthand and saw things like the rear takedown pin was removed and held together with wire instead. And they complained it wasn’t reliable. It’s a captured takedown pin, it’s utter moronation or direct sabotage to remove those.

      Anonymous

Thats the last thing they want. Ukraine is a war with an ungodly amount of suppressing fire, so the reviews would be overwhelmingly negative no matter how good it is; because its just a bad fit for what they're doing.

        Anonymous

This is a very good point and something people dont seem to understand. The US army relies less and less on small arms to do any kind of fighting anymore so its far more beneficial to them to out range threats than to match their volume of fire. General doctrine has been to buckle down and call in air/arty support for decades at this point since what the US has will pretty much always dominate the battlefield. Better to have a larger caliber round capable of hitting further out if you arent sending in troops until after youve blasted enemy positions with something else.

You also have the normal issues of procurement for yourself and the problem with making an even larger logistical nightmare for the ukranians. The more different kinds of ammo and supplies you have to distribute the bigger the pain in the ass.

          Anonymous

The XM7 and its round are too heavy to be mass issued in a real war. Just look at how rifles are being use in Ukraine and how tired soldiers look even carrying around M4s.

Yeah 6.8 and 7.62x39 are juicy not gonna lie

But I can get even juicier with an $800 AR-10

It is definitely fancier than a 7.62x39 AK, which is a serious historical threat

But them 308 and 7.62x51 AP rounds are just super fricking juicy and will tear armor to shreds

In the back of mind, I used to think, well the 6.8 and 5.56 are much lighter and you can get tight spreads

I think you are vastly overestimating how many people here own a SR-25, a SCAR-17, or a 417. I argue for most people the allure of the AR and the AK is not "military gun" but cheap ammo and runs like a pistol.

      Anonymous

You can build or obtain an AK or AR-15 for like 300 to 400. And yeah you can buy 5.56 and 7.62x39 for very cheap.

That's still a choice between 5.56 and 7.62x39, while the XM7 fires 6.8. The 308 / 7.62x51 has greater kinetic energy at closer ranges, like those for piercing armor, as well as a longer effective range, yet the 6.8 is lighter with a flatter trajectory.

I would prefer the 308 and the 7.62x51 for cost, availability, kinetic energy, and range. As for the heavier trajectory, well this a matter of skill that is not difficult to deal with. You can still place the same shots, and even further shots, if the bullet trajectory is slightly less flat.

It is definitely a lighter cartridge than the 308, but the XM7 is also carried along with plates, helmet, mags, pouches, assault packs, and so on. If you are just carrying a 308/7.62x51 rifle, maybe some mags, in plainclothes, you are still carrying less weight.

        Anonymous

        >It is definitely a lighter cartridge than the 308
The case weights are practically identical. Some autistic cartridge collectors got ahold of some fired 6.8mm brass and it averages out to about 155 grains each. That's only about 10 grains lighter than your average .308 brass. Which is the kind of shit marketers love, because it technically is lighter but by such a negligible amount you'd need a precision scale to tell the difference.

Because it was a rifle made to fight in the long distances of Afghanistan, with the added bonus of vibe checking Chinese level 3 plates that the PLA is mass adopting. The brass is always trying to win the last war, only this time, they had a little bit of foresight.

Because it's better to have an FDE base layer than a black base layer if you want to paint the gun

They'll need to completely revamp themselves if I'm ever to give them respect. I owned an original MCX and it was a massive piece of shit, and I doubt a bloated MCX that costs 4x as much will be any better as far as quality goes. The round is a gigantic meme and the current near-peer conflict in Ukraine shows that you don't need battle rifles to kill people real well wearing level 3 or 4 equivalent armor. The gun was just the Army boomer general officers last grasp of attempting to adopt a battle rifle after the concept was rightfully dropped in the 60s to 80s by most of the planet outside of third world shitholes who couldn't afford to upgrade or didn't have large enough militaries to justify moving fully to intermediate rifles.

More shots on target will always be better than the prospect of some one-shot-one-kill boomer marksman nonsense.

its the USA making the same m14 mistake again. literally the takeaway from every modern war about standard issue rifles is that whoever shows up with the most bullets, wins. rifling doesnt even fit the doctrine where one fireteam is in active combat and laying down ammo while the other assaults

        >just carry twice as much weight in ammo
        >don't worry about it soldier
        >there are no downsides
        >knees will keep degrading until morale improves
Please tell us more how you've never carried anything heavy long distances. 10 mags of 6.8 weighs 14lbs for a total of 200 rounds. 7 mags of 5.56 weigh 7lbs and that's 210. Twice the weight for less ammo. If you do 300 rounds vs 300 rounds it's 21lbs vs 10lbs. Have fun with that.

I still think going 6.8 is a big mistake and we should've continued with the LSAT.

    a 6.8 DMR/LMG is still a nice idea tho.

I will eventually own a piston gun that's not an AK, but it won't be that. Inflation would have to be such that 4k ish dollary-doos is 650 in today's money.

In 15 years semi-automatics will be federally regulated like machine guns, there's no chance this thing will have a chance to become nostalgia bait.

A new-production select-fire AR that isn't part of a dwindling supply of grandfathered, registered NFA items that cost a fortune. You know exactly what I meant. "Our laws" didn't stop WA from joining Maryland, California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and whoever else I'm forgetting about. Semi-auto rifles, at least in a non-cucked configuration, are going the way of full autos in the 80s.
