laugh all you want, but this traditional russian tactic of rapidly regrouping was absolutely key to breaking fall blau, by denying the germans the massive cauldrons of killed and captured russian soldiers they depended on to break the russian army. it should be somewhat concerning to the west that the russian army remembered that lesson so quickly after only the one kesselschlacht at lyman.

    Today I will remind them

    >biggest country in the world
    >has the most natural resources in the world
    >fifth largest military in the world
    >loosely allied with China and India (combined population: 2.84 billion)
    >in the position to blackmail Europe with essential energy exports

    >can't beat an impoverished neighboring country which is 28 times smaller, flat-terrained and run by a crossdressing comedian
    >can't beat NATO's homosexual feminist pronoun army supplying said country with arms and advice
    >can't motivate own citizens to mobilize
    >top generals siphon the military budget to buy yachts and Harvard gender studies classes for their kids
    >tries to cheat by proclaiming parts of said country as Russian, nobody cares
    >threatens the West with nuclear weapons, turns out it was a bluff

    >ends up expanding NATO
    >ends up strengthening the West's solidarity
    >ends up bolstering Ukrainian national identity
    >ends up pointlessly sacrificing men for the war, worsening the demographic decline
    >Russia may end up balkanized by the West through separatist color revolutions while China, Japan and Central Asian countries gobble up its clay

This guy had 22 years to fix Russia and turn it into a veritable superpower, yet all he did with his absolute power was give away money to his friends and oligarchs, set up a police state, and start the most embarrassing war fiasco in human history under the pretext of "RACIST TRANSGENDER ANGLO-SAXON NAZIS WHO PLUNDERED AFRICA WANT TO TURN RUSSIANS INTO homosexualS AND CANCEL US LIKE JK ROWLING".
This is, quite simply, the worst humiliation of all time.

USSR was ran by the party. Internal security was the secret police branch of it but was not in full control. Berias attempt to consolidate the throne after Stalin with the height of the NKVD (KGB) power and his quick death demonstrated that.

Now the Berias are in full control as the party dissolved and was discredited.

Beria more likely IMO. He had access to all the fancy poisons, ultimate authority based on terror and despite being a serial killer rapist he was no dummy and knew what happened to his predecessors, no matter how useful they were to Stalin. Also Stalin was prepping for another grand round of major purges which usually saw all levels get culled.

Beria totally whiffed on securing his own power afterwards then.

He had ultimate control over the NKVD but not over the party. The other politburos knew very well what will happen when the KGB takes over so they took care of him by securing the army and plotting a good old fashioned conspiracy. KGB got pegged a notch or two down too after Beria was killed.

Khrushchev was chosen as the new head precisely since in those circles he was seen as a moderate, non threatening head where the power wont concentrate into absolute terms like it did with Stalin and would have with Beria. As for bragging about killing Stalin Khrushchev talked a lot of shit and was pretty much like modern Medvedev trying to act tough to compensate his softy rep.

It's literally just because 2022 is the 100 year aniversary of the Soviet Union. Invasion preparations and gas frickery had started as far back as March 2021.

He wanted to be THE GUY who restored the Russian Empire in time for the big centennial. I'm guessing he thought Trump would still be president and that the opposition would be less unified.

Ukraine was rearming and improving its army at a rate that was too fast for Russia to tolerate, they would have had no trouble retaking the Donbass on their own and had no intention and no reason to make any further concessions (like giving them autonomy or accepting a referendum). Putin underestimate the Ukrainian resolve to retake their territory, so he was forced to invade them to stop them from humiliating him by reintegrating the Donbass (eventually). But this is exactly what Ukraine wanted. The only way Ukraine could ever retake Crimea and then join NATO as well was in an all out war they would somehow win. They went for it and so far it is working.

He simply got outsmarted by the Ukrainians and the West's resolve to support the Ukrainians.

i predict ukraine to become a culturally influential nation within the EU if they have a complete victory. such a victory will reinvigorate the society on every level. the war already destroyed the oligarchic structures anyway (igor kolomoisky for example was stripped ofhis nationality, and he was the main sponsor for zelensky during his presidential campaign. tymoshenko, petroshenko etc are all irrelevant. the state took control of oligarch controlled media and so on and zelensky is not the type who's able to build a dictatorship since he has no skills outside of PR). it is looking good for them.

You are only as good as the information you get. You need other people to challenge your ideas and give you good info.
Think George Lucas and Star Wars. Episode 4 to 6? People were willing to push back and tell him, that's stupid.
Episode 1 to 3? All yes men and wiener suckers and look what we got.
Same here. Putin can be the smartest man in the room but if he keeps huffing his own farts while his men give him bad info and only say yes. All it takes is one mistake to snowball and that mistake was invading Ukraine.

We can expand the pasta to add that some of the points from this thread, namely that they lost to 1.7% of NATO's yearly expenditure and that they can't even hold a fifth of Ukraine's territory with conventional warfare

Remember when everyone fell for his tough-guy act back in the 2010s?

It's worse than that actually. Ukraine before 2014 was a friendly nation to Russia. They wanted to be Ukrainian, but they also wanted to be friends with Russia. Look at that fricking approval rating. Fricking 98%.
But apparently that wasn't good enough for monke.
Putin is the worst, bar none, strategist of the 21st century. He started with a good army, good relations with the West which was focused on it's middle east adventures, vast reserves of a natural resource everyone needs and is willing to pay top dollar for, a friendly relationship with Ukraine but with the true touch of genius swept those obstacles aside and out of order wrought absolute chaos. We will not, with luck, see his like again.

Still not sure what to make of the drones the Ukrainians captured, they had dslr's strapped in, I don't think those can livestream data back to anyone, so they have to literally fly the drone directly overhead of whatever they want to scout, fly it back, then download the files onto a screen they can actually watch the playback on. How useless is that kind of intel after a few minutes?

          > ..that amazing city of alchemists and poets, mechanics and astronomers, philosophers and physicians, the heart of the only civilization in Middle-earth to bet on rational knowledge and bravely pitch its barely adolescent technology against ancient magic. The shining tower of the Barad-dûr citadel rose over the plains of Mordor almost as high as Orodruin like a monument to Man – free Man who had politely but firmly declined the guardianship of the Dwellers on High and started living by his own reason. It was a challenge to the bone-headed aggressive West, which was still picking lice in its log ‘castles’ to the monotonous chanting of scalds extolling the wonders of never-existing Númenor.

the irony is that the elves and numenoreans both had unmatched lore and might both in magic and arms during the second age. The only reason things went to shit was because of the arrogance of the Numenorean kings when they decided they wouldn't respect the Ban of the Valar and started treating the elves and elf friends like shit.

not technically. The fate of the humans isn't supposed to be the same as the elves. They don't enter the halls of Mandos when they die, but go somewhere beyond the confines of the world. I think that's the reasoning why humans aren't permitted to set foot on Aman, with certain exceptions like Earendil was.

I wonder, where do orcs go when they die? My personal guess would be either to halls of Mandos, like elves, or just disappearing forever.

There are seven Piss Keys total, which possess great power even by themselves, and together they can open the last stash of Indo-Aryan gods on Earth, also known as Pisky Trans-dimensional Superfortress. Ukies currently have 3-4 of them, Russians have 2, the location of the rest is unknown to public. Whoever would possess all seven, would become unstoppable.

So where's the next defensive line from now on? Ryber seems to believe that Beryslav is the regroup point for the ruskies, but there isn't much in the way of natural barriers in that area. Novokairy has an inlet with a bridge that could be blown, but since the ukes control Davydiv Brid (and by extension the road that leads to beryslav from the northwest) now both Beryslav and Novokairy could be at risk of encirclement.
Snihurivka-Kozatske maybe? There seems to be a major road there that could act as a stronghold.

Beryslav is basically their last chance. If that gets taken, Chaplynka airfield near it comes within range of HATO artillery and HIMARS. No more fire support or harassment of civilians from that direction.
