It's a fuvking sheet metal rifle from the 40s. That's all. Nobody heralds the hk33 or FNC as a magical alternative to more modern designs with machined, forged, or extruded receivers. But somehow the AK is considered special.
No. They were originally sheet metal. Production problems had them switching to milled receivers but that was always a temporary measure. Then they switched back to sheet metal once the kinks were ironed out.
>Nobody heralds the hk33 or FNC as a magical alternative to more modern designs with machined, forged, or extruded receivers. But somehow the AK is considered special.
But Anon, even though those obsolescent western alternatives are better in almost every way, the AK is the bad guy gun therefore by contrarian logic it must be the superior rifle.
Seriously though, I think only the CETME L and L85 are the only adopted western contenders for a worse assault rifle than the AK.
>Only real downside of the AK is its not as modular as the AR.
This. Also heavier, but more durable, and handles fat case and fat rim calibers a lot better.
Most AKs are lighter than your average morons AR project.

Yes but >https://www.vsevenweaponsystems.com/14-5-556-223-enlightened-smoke-composites-ar-rifle/
also the WWSD is sub 5 lbs.
The ar can get a lot lighter than the ak with modern materials and manufacturing techniques. However should the ak benefit from such development it would most likely end up at a similar weight. It's just that no one tried it yet.

titanium AK would be cool

Indeed it would. Or maybe a milled aluminium (or lithium-aluminium) receiver with an aluminium rear trunnion and steel front trunnion.

i worry that using differing materials in the front trunnion and receiver will cause thermal expansion divergence issues

If both materials have the same thermal properties, it should work well. Considering ar polymer uppers with internal barrel thread stainless steel insert exists, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes but alloys could match do. >polymer uppers are hot garbage and are hardly used
I have not found anyone on the net who owned them to support this statement.
The CETME L wasn't that bad.
Its just what you get for being a cheap ass and then doubling down on your mistaken and threatening soldiers when they try to actually fix issues.
It's "the people's rifle" for what it is, that being a mass produced stamped sheet metal rifle, it's fantastic, you can give it to a bunch of inexperienced conscripts, or goat farmers, and they can pull trigger and shoot bullet. The AK isn't "the best rifle ever" it's the best mass produced firearm ever. If your poor, stupid, and angry, the AK is your best friend. Also it's fun.
it's a tedious process meant to force poorgay consumers into buying domestic garbage and cope rifles
that said, AK manufacturers need to shut the frick up and start making AK's in other calibers like 30-06 and 6.5 grendel
It's a tedious process meant to prevent importation of scary assault guns.
The fact that anyone persists and does it anyway is commendable, and it shows that the AK market would be significantly cheaper than they are if not for being forced to do 922r compliance. They'd probably be at PSAK price points.
All that being said, 922r prevents me from easily getting eurojank so it needs to go.
Are you fricking kidding me James? You just clickbaited me to a Zastava add you fricking shill? I will NEVER click your bullshit videos if they show up in my feed again, you act like a homosexual too.
AKs suck in general
They were made for specific political situation and point in time. A gun that's optimized for production in communist sweatshops, with a population that lost all their give-a-frick and will never maintain the thing. All attempts to modernize the platform just slapped a bandaid on the issue. >it was always a shit gun >it will always be a shit gun >you are either a slaveboo or a contrarian if you like it
stop moaning, your post is essentially fuddlore mixed with a healthy dose of 16 year old's edginess and spending too much time on /misc/. ak is not a shit rifle nor was it made in "communist sweatshops". it's a military rifle made for an army that needed a lot of rifles, fast.
>inb4 tacticool girl(male)friend post
Most antigay types are chronic poorgays with no ability to research or delay gratification to save money that buy a PSA AR or a fricking VSKA
The M5 is mediocre at filling the role of a carbine, the best in it's class as a short marksman rifle, and completely moronic as a standard issue assault rifle. 6.8x51 will require a new doctrine. But even if the M5 is very mediocre, since the M250 appears to be a godsend, maybe ammo commonality and MG ubiquity will do the trick to compensate for all of the M5's flaws.
7.62x39 ar bolts last 900 to 2200 rounds (900 for a low-end one, 2200 for a fricking JP enhanced bolt) and magazines are even less reliable than the first-gen 30 round ar mags from the 70's. Also ars don't run steel cased ammo very well, Lake City developed a steel cased variety of m193 during the Vietnam war to reduce costs, and the project was cancelled.
No, because even with de-horning, I'd still have a rifle with some of the laziest designed notched sights ever produced, short sight radius, unintentional gas mask height over bore for a RDS, mags that do not fall free one handed, no bolt hold open, a stock length designed for hobbits, and a design clearly produced by a man who pleasures himself to the user getting poked, proded, and cut by every sharp edge and corner on the damn thing the moment you have to do any task with the rifle slung.
I like the action. I like both x39 calibers. But that sheet metal receiver has to go. It's time to move on.
Some of the Krebs models have a bolt catch built into the safety lever and address some of the other concerns. I agree with a lot of the sentiment though. Many higher quality, more expensive AKs don’t go through any modification or modernization at all until it gets to the user (should the user choose to modify it).
Finally these morons aren't making cool cheap pistol scarce and are finally giving impulse buying morons shit advice.
It's almost as if the AK was never what it was cracked up to be

Ubiquity, that's all
Aks we're originally milled

The AK is at least reliable unlike the L85 and Cetmeme. Only real downside of the AK is its not as modular as the AR.

It really doesn't
Sorry you're poor/stupid and can only afford American made abominations.
>It's a fuvking sheet metal rifle from the 40s.
60's.
what do you think the 47 means?
>he thinks the AKM is the same thing as the AK 47
Read a book Black person
If you're going to move the goal posts, can you at least leave them somewhere on the field?

Maybe you should watch the video before you say something stupid about it.
The KS-47 is the best AK ever made

The Valmet Hunter was made in 30-06. You probably won't find a heftier AK bolt
I'm not an AK guy at all but God damn 922r is fricking bullshit.
And the buren case decision would easily do away with that if some one is willing do something
Is there any reason to buy a modern production zastava if I can buy an ex fullauto surplus one here in europe? Is the quality comparable?
yeah
>Is the quality comparable?
All the major parts are made on the same lines as the old ones, ex full auto surplus is just cooler.
Got it, thanks. I'm probably going with a new production then as I don't really care for a full auto notch that I can't even use legally.
Could've removed imports

you still have no argument.
look shitling, there is no argument to be made as you didn't present any either, while the rest of your post is just plain moronation.
AK in general suck regardless of place of manufacture.
All this shilling against the AK - do trannies all get up at the same time or something?
Trantifa loves their AKs.
I’ve only ever seen them with ARs
>inb4 tacticool girl(male)friend post

>brings up trannies for no reason
So this is/misc/ brain rot?
Just poorgay zoomers mad they missed out on 500 dollar Saigas and 5.45 cheaper than .223
gayr clone owners are made their rifles are worthless while AK's continue to climb in value, they are priced out.
Not to mention it's been declared obsolete and being phased out of the U.S military.

aight fess up who is this i know it's someone in this thread
which one of you works at the factory?
Not me.
give me a alternative western gun that can run steel case 762x39
Ar15

Ranko smrdine, popuši mi kurac. Dosta vas je bilo na moj omiljeni jutub kanal.
Would you like AKs if you had like a Krebs Custom one or something of the same quality?
No, because even with de-horning, I'd still have a rifle with some of the laziest designed notched sights ever produced, short sight radius, unintentional gas mask height over bore for a RDS, mags that do not fall free one handed, no bolt hold open, a stock length designed for hobbits, and a design clearly produced by a man who pleasures himself to the user getting poked, proded, and cut by every sharp edge and corner on the damn thing the moment you have to do any task with the rifle slung.

Why can't it just be a picture of an AK or something? Instead it's this gay fricking algorithm feed shit.
