I think I'm fucked. What caliber can we assume would penetrate their exoskeleton? We saw in the movie that point blank shotgun blast will kill one, so we can assume at least 12 gauge will work. In the case I'd say 5.56 M855 would work, along with the heavier 7.62x39. I think I could take out two or three before a third comes up behind me and fucks me and my family up.

Vasquez kills one with a .45 pistol. Granted it was a side hit at point blank, but you can extrapolate that .45 can penetrate and kill one at point blank then just about any rifle caliber will fuck them up. They are still biological flesh and blood creatures, there's no reason to believe they can shrug off hits from intermediate or full power cartridge.

To add to this, look at any armor test video that shows both pistols and rifles vs armor. There are armor panels/plates that can't be penned by a pistol at all even at point blank range, but can be penned by 5.56 from 300 meters away. The power difference between rifle and pistol calibers is extreme. If pistols are getting any penetration on a xenomorph then rifles are going to sail right through.
Just from what I’ve seen in the movies, modern rifles and small arms can do decent damage to them. You just have to hit them a LOT, in a good spot, and with a good amount of bullets. If you don’t finish them off I’d imagine the bullets dissolve in the body then it’s healing factor can patch it up relatively quick. So yeah if one crawled into my home a couple shots of 00 buck to the head followed by 30 rounds of green tips from my AR should be able to take it out. Assuming it doesn’t skewer me like a hot dog over a campfire with its tail first.
This. One is nasty but killable, but if you had multiple of them stalking you, then you’re probably screwed because they are fast, adept climbers and clever bastards that sure wouldn’t give you the benefit of picking them off one by one.

Modern weapons don't hurt xenomorphs. Yeah some of the movies depict future firearms as hurting them, but those are weapons the military of the future is using. Alternative media isn't canon but in many cases is made to be compatible with canon, and in the comics and video games there is a consistent depiction that 21st century firearms are inadequate against the xenomorphs.
Wrong:
Alien Vs Predator and the sequel are canon. Civilians were holding off xenomorphs with hunting rifles and shotguns once they got organized. The military was able to hold ground with standard M4s and M240s as well.
