About the most they will have are portable fingerprint scanners.

"Dusting and Lifting" has been pretty much dead at the small department level for a long time, and even where the department has a dedicated crime lab, it's not used very often.

The powder residue checks are easily set off by common household chemicals, and are usually only used in concert with other more substantial evidence. Like video.

92 is the only duty gun I'd say is OOB a decent match gun. Yes glocks shoot bullets too but the 92 is just way more refined and nice to shoot and the weight makes being a retard with it way harder than polymer striker guns.

I may need to explore this. My first gun was a ruger mkiv tactical and i talked to a few people about volquartsen upgrades and it always boiled down to "what about the pistols performance dont you like"
I never had a good answer. Crisp clean break and short reset. I wanted to upgrade just because 'its there' and its what everyone else was doing. Like

92 is the only duty gun I'd say is OOB a decent match gun. Yes glocks shoot bullets too but the 92 is just way more refined and nice to shoot and the weight makes being a retard with it way harder than polymer striker guns.

said my 92A1 is a great shooter and i cant fathom dropping 300$ on some upgrades making it feel like a completely different gun. On the other hand, ive never shot anything with langdon or wilson upgrades. Be straight with me anon, is the juice worth the squeeze?

You can turn your 92 into a certified race gun feeling pistol for about 120 bucks. Really all you need is the Langdon trigger bar and Beretta match hammer.

                Anonymous

The first 70 bucks for the LTT trigger bar is all you “need” to spend. This makes the trigger reset as short as possible, putting the trigger right where the firing pin block starts. Beretta now makes a short reset trigger bar too, but the extra bit of the LTT bar is that it reduces trigger over travel, functionally making the reset shorter since you don’t pull the trigger back as far. The rest of the trigger job (100 dollars) (TJIAB - trigger job in a bag) is smoothness. Not super necessary and if you’re budget minded you can do it yourself following a guide. A well broken in trigger would have already smoothed most of the surfaces.
The match hammer is 45 bucks, puts the SA trigger right at reset, right before the firing pin block. My first gun was a DA/SA so removing SA take up isn’t an issue, the match hammer isn’t really necessary as it just removes the slop. It does make me giddy at how fucking short the trigger travel is on a DA/SA. Worth it I guess. One configuration I had with TJIAB + match hammer bought separately + 12 pound spring was that my SA pull was 2.5 pounds and my DA was 6. A hair trigger, I went to a heavier hammer spring and it’s back up to 3.5 and feels crisper.

The benefit of TJIAB is that you can get the match hammer for an extra 10-25 dollars instead of 45 if you buy it separately. But just a trigger bar and match hammer would only run you 125 bucks or so instead of a 180-230. The NP3 finish he offers makes things even smoother and also shiny.

Thats pretty reasonable, price wise. Gimme the skinny, are there any drawbacks here? Ive been a gun owner for about 10 years, done some minor stuff like rust bluing and stock repair. I got a beat to shit 995 with good rifling fixed up in a high tower stock and its a lot of fun but thats the extent of my skills and i really know next to nothing about guns. Idk, are there any issues with these upgrades were talking about? Accidental trigger pulls on recoil leading to holes in ceilings due to the short reset? Could you even call that a flaw or is that just user error?

                Anonymous

I did run into a situation where my combo of frame + trigger bar + match hammer + hammer spring made a 1/10 DA pulls not drop the hammer. I believe it was the length of the hammer spring (wolf 18 pound) and the over travel reduction of the LTT bar preventing it. Rare case of tolerance stacking, whenever you do anything you must test the gun for function afterwards. That’s unrelated since the LTT springs are top notch chrome silicon springs that last longer than steel. But really no downside other than the SA pull being really short and lighter, with that 2.5 pound hammer it made me nervous if I ever had to run while carrying it hammer back, so I made it heavier.

Uh as someone who has a lot of retarded ideas and money to spend, I did a lot of the LTT an WC upgrades on my 92S because reasons. With new springs, a match hammer, LT trigger bar, an improved guide rod, locking block, and the barrel I borrowed off of a newer 92, along with a little trigger work, that 92S felt way better than my stock M9A1 or 92FS Inox. Because I'm again a huge retard, I am now looking at trying to adapt that 400 dollar Langston RDO slide to the 92S, since I'm tired of the shitty sights.

No problem, I just bought a fully tricked out PX4 that I’ll immediately have to swap the hammer to a match when I receive it. When you select all the options you don’t get the top of the line, probably for liability reasons. If you ever have this problem where you have a pile of elite hammers with one match hammer in it, you can put the match hammer on top of the elite II hammer to tell the difference, the match hammer has a different profile where it interfaces with the sear/trigger bar, IIRC it sticks out further.

One letter from an attorney, and they were shitting themselves trying to get me to come pick it up.

I'm of the belief that they are hoping that when they seize your piece, that you will not lawyer up, because a lot of times, those guns are not destroyed or sold.

          >you will always get your property back,
Depends wildly on state and even county. For example in WA they have removed the legal liability to store a confiscated firearm after 30 days, at which point they may legally destroy it. This is very common and is probably in place in your state and you don't realize it. It was sold to a variety of state legislatures through Bloombergs yearly submit these bills to your legislature about 5 or so years back. Important to note this is not forced procedure, it's the legal right to do it and the evidence holder may act as they see fit. That being said a SD gun will be necessary evidence for a trial so it should not be destoryed as doing so may destroy evidence.

I have no qualms in an expensive gun being tied up for a time, if it served the purpose. The only guns I won't are sentimental or super collectible.

This... If my $5k AR-15 saved my life and was in an evidence locker, I would be a little sad but mainly laugh it off with my buddies as part of the story of how I knocked off a lowlife who broke into my house at 3am.
It would suck if it was a 100 year old lugar or historic gun.

This. If I live long enough to complain about it, then it served its purpose.

Does everyone live in fucking California or something or is this thread just full of bait and noguns?

You god damn retards who keep spouting ignorant shit without even knowing procedures are a blight on the internet because you keep shouting your uneducated opinion at such a volume that other people without a clue get impressed by it.
Evidence does not get kept by the police, it gets kept by the courts, if you want any evidence back you have to file for it at your state attorney office and if there won't be a courtcase you will always get your property back, you just need to fucking ask for it.

The government has to file a motion for forfeiture if they want to keep your stuff. They can't legally take your property without the benefit of due process.

Apparently you don't know shit, it's called civil asset forfeiture and due process or the Constitution doesn't even factor in because they can take what they want and they don't have to charge you with a single thing because they charge the stuff they take. Civil asset forfeiture is a growth industry, they already take BILLIONS every year with the average seizure being $1300 and there's no end in sight.

The following has happened multiple times:
            >Guy gets pulled over

            >”What happened to my money?”

With pleasure, but you’re moving the goalpost. Even if they do get the money back after taking the PD to court it’s still a violation of due process. The PD is counting on you not having the money to take them to court after they took it.

You really are a fucking moron, you have no idea how this shit works. When the average seizure is $1300 we aren't talking about Pablo Escobar here. Read the fucking law moron, there is no requirement for a crime to be committed. Why do you think it's $1300, could it be because that's about the perfect amount that it would cost a person more to sue to get it back that it's worth?

you shouldn't be staging historical firearms or heirlooms as defensive weapons. your high-dollar firearms should be range toys UNLESS you live in south africa or some shit in which case yeah, bring the best you have to the fight.

lastly: if you keep a 12ga by your bedside, that is probably the best weapon you could possibly choose unless you have a huge house to move through with tiny doors that requires a handgun. and the whole "oh no i used the $200 gun not the $1500 gun haha" shit will get you locked the fuck up, because if you're in a defensive case they WILL check every gun of the utilized cartridge if it means locking up a racist evil gun owner on a technicality

I own a California-legal AR without pistol grip, as that is what the founding fathers would've wanted. Four ATF officers enter my lawn at the dead of day, ringing my doorbell just above the "DON'T STEP ON ME" sticker.
"Thank you for your service!" as i grab my red maga hat and my gun registration papers. First agent stamps a golfball sized hole in the first paper, getting my AR denied on the spot.
Draw my pistol papers on the second agent, miss them already because i know everything not smoothbore is gonna get confiscated.
I have to resort to the 1700's cannon on top of the stairs and cling on to it, but it gets taken too for being a destructive device. "tally ho lads!" i say tearily as i see the agents leave with their new range toys. But if it saves just one life, that would the founding fathers also want.

I mean, even assuming I lose it permanently, I’d just replace it and use one of my other guns for the time being. And I’m a poorfag. The point of the gun is to be used. It’s like someone complaining that he wouldn’t use his ceramic plates because they’d be broken after and opt for steal because it’s cheaper and it’ll last after getting shot, spall and all.

Isn't the fuddlore around this more that if you kill someone with a super Gucci firearm that's been tricked out, that you're more likely to potentially catch charges or be civilly liable? The CC and HD instructors as well as every range fudd claim that a tricked out gun means "you were looking to shoot someone and went out of your way" in comparison to something stock, especially if it's wooden furniture.
