You wake up in Saigon on April 30, 1975

How do you survive? The last American helicopters have already left so flying out with them isn't an option. Note, there are abandoned ARVN weapons everywhere so fighting the PAVN is an option, probably futile, but an option nonetheless.

Find some other Westerners who were left behind and try to get with them in the hope the Commies won't notice I'm American and eventually I'll get repatriated. Or go to the coast and hire a boat and either sail for Thailand or a US Navy ship off the coast, they should still be some around.

This or an SKS bring back.

      >1975
      >Haven't been born yet, so useless passport
      >Way too westernized and well-fed compared to the normal rural Southerner .
      >Clear Ha noi accent
Join the refugee diaspora, move to Cali and trying my best to apply all the future knowledge i have to game the stock market

This is the way, as long as you don't die trying to get to California, the boat people apparently had a very high mortality rate.

Go into the nearest town and have sex with the prostitutes until I die of empty balls

As long as you have US dollars.

Didn't they stop soldiers from bringing back guns after 1968?

Don't, the South in the 75-85 was a hellhole because the ARVN looted a lot of stuff as well as sending a lot of people to reeducation camp. The economy eat shit because the flow of Soviet aids stop and we haven't opened up trade. If you're white then maybe you get some level of diplomatic immunity, but I won't count on it

I can't find it anymore, but there is this british (i think) news report about the fall of Saigon, the day after. There is this strung out american junkie that comes up to talk to him, completely oblivious to current events, despite being in Saigon. He starts the whole "you'd really be helping someone out" routine asking for some sort of help from this reporter on camera. I wonder what happened to him.

You fight your way to the nearest boat. There wasn't much American aircrafts during that time because all combat forces already left south Vietnam years prior. They are only evacuating embassy staff/local allies in the region.

Then you steal an aircraft or be lucky that the your boat survives getting out of the area.

and so vietnam plunged into 25 years of commie control, waste and murder, and then realized in 2000 that they better wake the frick up before they are steamrolled by their eternal enemy who turned to capitalism at the same time they fell into hard core commieism.

25 years of wasted time and deaths and suffering to play Marxist games with people's lives.

I'm trying to find the book I read it from, but right before the embassy personnel found out helicopters were coming to extract them, all the fixed wing planes that were taking evacuees got waved off because of the advancing PVA so everyone thought they had been abandoned.
The Korean embassy staffers reported to the MACV armory at Tan Son Nhut and asked to be issued weapons, saying that they would hold the PVA off to buy time for everyone else, as they all knew the Korean reputation among the Viets and decided they wouldn't be taken alive.

Found it: Last Flight From Saigon by Thomas Tobin. It's an Air Force publication so it should be easy to find on the interwebs, the whole account is riveting and very intense.

      >By about noon, I was in the process of covertly moving the remaining Americans and their VN dependents from the Annex to the DAO compound. I had to form them quietly in the gym, then out the back door which was screened from the other evacuees. We also moved the wounded personnel to the DAO compound HLZ. During this time, I saw displayed a rare demonstration of courage. About 30 Koreans (contractors with families) were in one of the groups ready for departure. We had been giving preference to TCNs and Americans and all these now were removed from the EPC. The Korean leader asked me point blank if I thought the remaining evacuees could get out. I told truthfully that I did not know. He then asked if we could provide weapons and ammunition for his group since they were determined not to get captured. I reassured him that we were still trying to get everyone out and deferred his request. (It crossed my mind at the time that this group might be a possible important ally should we have to make a stand. I kept track of their position until later events negated any such action.)

I think it's in Chickenhawk that he describes Koreans going innawoods and coming back with heads of a mortar crew that was pinning the marines down.

If you’re westerner just sit there and wait pavn to collect you. They’ll send you back sooner or later, cuz they don’t want to mess with west anymore.
If you’re arvn then good luck. Fight until last bullet then take your kamikaze grenade. Or you’d ending up in some random commie camp.

I'm taking that guy with me as well. Some Polish military training experts were present in Vietnam, too, doing Warsaw Pact spook stuff. Do you know how to train people on SA-2 missiles or T-54s? Don't worry, you'll learn quickly enough.

I've never fired a qeapon against anyone in Vietnam, there is literally no record of me on any list and nobody alive has ever seen me enlist or be employed by the US government.

Why would I worry about surviving? For all intents and purposes I'm a ghost.

The more reason to detain and torture you. Hell, I'm Vietnamese with a clear Ha Noi accent and I won't want to be in Saigon during that moment. Even pretending to be a local welcoming the ARVN is not safe, as I lack identification and are most likely to be send to reeducation camp.

Oh boy. I feel that all my options here are bad.

    >be Filipino
    >have the option of explaining myself to the PAVN as a nursing student that got left behind
    >explain my American accent as someone who studied at UCLA
    >hope they deport me to the Philippines and don't immediately think I'm a CIA plant
    >get sent back to the Philippines
    >get killed by Marcos's secret police on my return

My options are bad no matter what and there is no best case scenario where I get to go hunt and farm with my grandfather and his M1 Carbine in the Philippine jungle.
