At least .357 Sig has some gofast in it. .45 GAP is just a very slightly shorter .45 ACP. I don't know what they were expecting to happen when .40 S&W already had the "small frame bigger bullet" market covered.

          >2002
it was right before the assault weapons ban was lifted and i'm willing to bet that glock hedged their bets on the market continuing to favor high caliber self loading guns, but people suddenly being allowed to own 10+ round magazines made 9mm a lot more appealing

glock was trying to entice FUDDs to drop their 1911s for glocks and come to find out they were willing to do that without a .45 bullet, they just did it because the guns are european

            Not really.
The Rifle & Magazine Ban of 1994 didn't sunset until Sept of 2004. The 45GAP was announced in late 2002, showed up at SHOT in 2003.
The Ban still has a year and a half -- and a ton of political uncertainty -- until sunset.
I think Gaston's vanity was the primary driver.

Boomers still had an emotional fixation on .45 ACP, and conjured up whatever arguments they could to justify it over .40. If you took the arguments at face value, instead of recognizing them as justification, you could easily conclude that they would be just as interested in another 230-grain, .45 caliber cartridge. (You'd be wrong, of course, as history shows.)
Just like if you took every 9mmgay's justifications about capacity and recoil at face value, you'd expect .30 Super Carry to take the market by storm.

            >you could easily conclude that they would be just as interested in another 230-grain, .45 caliber cartridge.
I don't see how Glock arrived at that logic, when there was already a wide number of pistols chambered for .45 Auto, including ones of their own, it doesn't offer anything substantially new. .357 Sig gives you a very speedy .357 caliber projectile which is like .38 Super on steroids, .40 S&W gives you, well, .40 caliber I guess, and 10mm gives you a very fast .40 caliber.
What does .45 GAP give you? It's .45 Auto, except the grip is very slightly smaller and the gun isn't compatible with any .45 Auto ammunition.
The difference to existing options is way too small and has way too much of a drawback.

The only way .45 GAP could ever have had a slight success would be if Glock never offered their pistols in .45 Auto, and introduced .45 GAP as their sole option for a .45 caliber Glock, like some sort of John Deere/Apple scheme, and that'd still be a bust.

It was Gaston Glock's vanity cartridge.
      > 9mm case length
      > 45 boolit
The G21 is a great pistol but it's got larger grip diameter, making is unshootable for people with smaller hands (the womens).
      Hence, the 45GAP.
Total flop. Answer to a question that nobody asked.

A slightly shorter .45 Auto so that you could fit it in a slightly smaller frame. It's exactly as needless as it sounds, people who wanted a .45 caliber Glock would just get the Glock 21, or the Glock 30 if they wanted it a to be a little smaller.

I'm already committed to 45 ACP sorry luv

      Based.

      I have a Glock 37 in .45GAP

It is the most uncomfortable pistol I have to shoot. .357 SIG out of a Sig doesn't hold a candle to this shit. It's got a 10 round mag at full capacity, and has the snappiest recoil this side of 10mm.
Actually its probably worse than 10mm because since it's packed into the thin normal G17 slide profile it's got no weight to it. I love the idea of using the common slide and frame, but it's ridiculous.
The Glock 21SF is better is every single metric other than minor size differences. It's even got 13 rounds in a full mag instead of 10.
If you live in a cuck state where you can only have 10 rounds, buy a G30 instead.

      Basically this.

Make .45 ACP fit in a grip that is comfortable to hold for children and small women.

Make a new cartridge instead of fixing our bigger caliber pistols not to go boom.

that's not why 45 GAP was made dumbass

Yes it was, case neck blowout is what caused those catastrophic failures in the old large caliber Glocks because the chamber wall wasn't thick enough.

right, which is why they still sell 45 ACP Glocks and they don't explode, it's definitely not because 45 ACP is oversized due to its pressure limit and you can use a much smaller case, therefore 45 GAP

No, you wienersucking moron, the one kaboom problem which existed was the Glock 22 having insufficient chamber-support, ergo too much material relieved at the bottom for feeding, which with normal factory .40 S&W ammo wasn't a problem, didn't even give you bulged cases, but morons who didn't understand that the Glock 20 existed tried to hotrod .40 S&W and then path of least resistance happens.

This was never a problem with 9mm, .357, .45, or 10mm Glocks, and it was an issue which was addressed to save morons from moroning themselves.

i like to collect weird, or obscure firearms. my usual ffl had one of these old 38lc revolvers he added to my order for $90. i had to spend $45 for a box of 38lc online for the stupid thing

It's interesting as a curiosity, that's for sure, but I very much understand why they replaced it, especially hearing that the ammo used in the day was fairly inaccurate.
