FPBP. Taiwan maintains a nuclear program that is perpetually only a couple months away from building a weapon. In 6 months they could have several nuclear weapons and already have the means to deliver them.

      This

      1) Taiwan has a serious Chinese spy problem
      2) They don't want it to be lost to China if there's a war

And 3. There is still chance pro-Chinese politician gain power
From what I've observed. KMT is doing damn bad so it becomes less likely.
Nonetheless it's better to give F35 to Japan and tell them to assist. Taiwan can use older model focusing in other task.
The whole strategy around defense of Taiwan is division of labour and Taiwan will not be fighting alone.
Unless America has its own chink spies problem and somehow decided to lose its super power position by giving up Taiwan

Black person, where have you been? This is public knowledge and china is completely open about it in their foreign policy. I even ran into one at my previous job. Some chick assumed the identity of this other chinese woman who went to Cornell so she could get hired by us as a data scientist, but then her documents didn't match the name we hired her under, so she gave the excuse that she legally changed her name the week before she started at our company. While she was with us, she kept mentioning really weird stuff like how she moonlights fighting disinformation against the chinese government on social media. She quit abruptly with three days notice after only work working for us for a month and a half, saying that she was going full time with her internet job. During the time that she was with us she had full access to all of our company's data.

China is the Largest oil importer on the planet and second largest oil consumer. 70% of their oil consumption is imported and is expected to sharply rise to 80% by 2030.
The vast majority of it comes through here, the Malacca Strait. One carrier group patrolling the waters and a Battalion of marines in Singapore could choke the oil guzzling, Chinese war machine and force them to make strategies based on my time table. They would have to commit serious naval assets to dislodge even one carrier group. Two would require a complete about face in the entire theatre. All the while, their oil clock is ticking.

The infrastructure doesn't exist. They're in the process of building it now, but as it stands China very, very much relies on maritime transport, to completely shift over to pipelines and trucks, trains etc., this will take years, and, ironically, huge amounts of materials and oil.

The question is if the Chinese with their existing forces can take Taiwan in 90s. Simply put the answer I think is no. The Chinese navy is a joke and actually transporting huge numbers of troops and supplies there would require that they start pressing civilian shipping craft into service.

Given that this is the exact scenario that Taiwan has been preparing for for the last 50 years I'm primarily interested in seeing the oceans aflame, the corpses of literally tens of thousands of chinkoids floating in the bloody water.

Except China has enough reserves for 90 days - probably double if you factor in the shut down / slowdown of non essential oil consumption like civilian airlines and cargo ships. That and now that Russia is sanctioned China essentially is the only real consumer of all their oil.

If trade is immediately severed, sure the US ends up with more piles of paper and 1s and 0s in bank accounts. While China ends up with lithium ion batteries, motors, steel foundries, electronics, chemical factories, all the things actually needed to sustain a war machine.

And they would need oil to sustain that industry, 90 days MIGHT be flexible enough to take major parts of Taiwan but the US isnt just going to go "Oh shucks, they got the island? I guess we better go home" China cant sustain both the industry and their military on oil reserves and piece meal pipelines, production vs force projection will start to become excrutiating strategic decisions.

          >with no money
You're so far up the monetarist hole you think bits of papers and 1's and 0's have value. Money is a measure of value. In a wartime economy, personal consumption shifts to military spending, creating the necessary capital flows to sustain production.

          >no resources
China actually has a shit load of resources. It is the biggest producer of many commodities like steel, coal, agriculture, rare earths etc. They import so much because they have an even bigger population.

What I'm trying to get at is that China's demands for coal and iron far outstrip their supply. It doesn't matter that they produce these in significant qualities, they still are incredibly reliant upon foreign trade to support their industry and population. It's why they've bought into the renewables meme so much, because their energy security is extremely vulnerable to disruptions in supply, and not because they want to save the planet. China without these resources would be in a very dangerous situation that the CCP wants to avoid at all costs. While the military might be prioritised and kept running, it will be the civilians who suffer, and 1.3 billion angry chinks who aren't living the luxurious middle class lifestyle they've gotten used to over the past 4 decades is not a force I would want to be dealing with.

Their commercial demand, not wartime demand, is not met from internal production. They are very different things. Same goes for oil - a lot of oil, like those in the Tarim basin, are not exploited simply for commercial reasons. The 1.3 billion will have their anger successfully redirected to America if they get blockaded, and then the CCP will have unlimited political power.

It's pretty hard for Taiwan to win a protracted military conflict against China. They can make China bleed for every inch of land, but it's China, they don't give a frick about their soldiers anymore than the Russians do. Short of dropping a nuke on Beijing, ideally right on top of the Great Hall of the People while Xi's giving a speech, there isn't really a win condition I don't think.

I invest the 8.99 billion in a diversified portfolio mostly covering investments that would multiply in worth and profits following a chinese invasion of taiwan, and set up shell NGOs or deals with companies to exploit the multi-billion dollar contracts for rebuilding china after the war, prepare money for loans to give out as they rebuild, and also set up human trafficking corridors for organs, prostitution, slave labor etc. from all the displaced civilian survivors. Fabricating 200 000 small drones self guided with loitering small and facial recognition (https://youtu.be/9fa9lVwHHqg).
Then combined with mass surveillance you send your 200K small drone auto-guided to people susceptible to organize resistance in Taiwan. Creating an absolute terror and make the country paralyzed at worst, surrendering out of shock at best.
And in the meantime you do a classic naval invasion into Taipei, capture it and US wouldn't have the time to react China would already be behind nukes and the local population.

Surrender. US Navy can't approach 1000 km of Taiwan in a wartime scenario with China's fleet of anti-ship & anti-carrier missiles such as the DF21 and their hypersonic missiles. Reality is America has no hope of projecting power anywhere near China because they wasted their money on outdated carriers and ships instead of innovating with hypersonic missiles like China and Russia did. You can build 1000+ hypersonic missiles for the cost of a single carrier and a carrier can be shot down by a barrage of 50 of these even with US anti-missile tech. It is unironically impossible for America to win. Only hope America has is of fast tracking their hypersonic missile program and getting a huge number of them on Taiwan somehow. Good luck with that.

yeah, some things can't be rebuilt in a year - no matter how much money you pump into it. also if you're spending tens or even hundreds of trillions in military expenditure, losses due to sanctions and rebuilding costs over a decade to acquire something you could have bought for far less than that in the same time-frame - you're a complete moron.

1.) It exists in defiance of their "one possible Chinese system" talking point.
2.) Taiwan is more successful per capita than the PRC.
3.) Taiwan has access to high tech manufacturing methods that the mainland strain of the people cannot replicate.
4.) Taiwan is incredibly wealthy, and as with Hong Kong, they want to steal that.
5.) Xi's ego. It's possible - though not certain - that he wants to end his career with a feather in his cap: 'the man who reunited China.' Someone who'd be a peer to Mao.

If it hasn't been said already,

how the f*ck is anyone getting boots on the ground by crossing 150km? Landing ship? Artillery. Even the fastest transport with paratroopers and you have 10+ minutes of warning to polish your shoulder launched missile.

      Anonymous

It's approximately 100km and yes, landing craft. They don't even need amphibious assualt carriers to deploy them when they're that close.

The goal is to not achieve complete surprise. It's to achieve local superiority long enough to establish a beach head. Taiwan's forces will be spread out across the dozen possible landing sites, with reserves positioned accordingly. How the attack will go if they do it right
      >cruise missiles and rocket artillery destroy key installations like runways, radar sites and bridges
      >AWACs will cue AD or combat air patrols to enemy aircraft and try to achieve air superiority
      >once achieved, SEAD will be conducted to neutralise AA and ASM sites
      >then naval artillery, air strikes and rocket artillery will soften up landing sites
      >the sites will be ideally supported by an integrated brigades of attack choppers, CAS aircraft, naval artillery and amphibious landing vehicles/IFVs
      >beach heads are established as FOBs for the land invasion

The task for Taiwan is to disrupt operations and stop the beach heads from being built. They have about two days before the force concentration is so great they are effectively fighting a ground war instead of an amphibious assualt

Assuming you can't give them nukes anything and everything towards anti air/sea. China's win condition is getting even the tiniest land based foothold onto Taiwan and the hopes the general populace capitulates, to even have a chance means making any Amphibious warfare essentially a bloodbath that's so significant China would have to completely abandon any defensive military doctrine towards bum rushing Taiwan which I don't think they're willing to do.
