Fine motor skills more or less go entirely out the window in a high stress, high adrenaline situation. The less dexterity a task requires, the better your chances of not fucking it up under pressure. it’s not an absolute necessity to have a forward assist, but it’s a good thing to have.

There's not enough grip on the bolt to push it forward easily. The AR trades a reciprocating charging handle for better sealing against dirt and mud.

It's shit because instead of being able to grab the edge of the handle like a raptor or other hype beast CHs it requires you to pull as close to the center as possible killing the purpose of buying such CH especially if you have a bulky optic.

The AR-15 throwing gas into your face if you dare use a suppressor is a pretty big flaw. Also the overly fragile, non-folding stock, but that's more of a tradeoff.

Saved Kyle Rittenhouse's life on live TV and retards with a lack of mechanical understanding still don't get it. If the bolt doesn't close due to a minor malfunction, yes absolutely push it into place. You'd only ever use the FA where you'd push an AK charging handle home. Very rarely but it could be necessary if there's small obstructions/debris/grit in the chamber that can be pushed past.

What does it do? I always assumed that it pushed forward a cartridge that wasn't properly inserted.
But it seems redundant with the, uh, the thing to the left that you pull.
As you can see, I'm an euro nogun. But I want to know.

      Anonymous

AR's charging handle is non-reciprocating. It can pull the bolt back but can't push it forwards. This keeps the charging handle from smacking you in the face when the gun fires. If you want to force the bolt into battery you need to use the FA.

      Anonymous

it's an added redunancy to force the bolt forward instead of having to rack the charging handle. It's not too uncommon to tap the foward assist after a reload or during initial bringing of your weapon online, to make absolute sure that the bolt is seated.

WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!
When you insert a new mag into your AR YOU DO NOT HIT THE BOLT RELEASE. Its is not a bolt release it's a BOLT HOLD OPEN! After inserting a mag you pull the charging handle back to RELEASE THE BOLT then you have successfully charged your rifle without undue wear. It's like you're all cavemen treating such things like a hammer or wrench!
