Why would you ever be banned from a range for not making a mess?

I typically do long-range shooting (bolt action), which circumvents the eternal brass israelite, and I gotta tell you I'd be pretty passed if someone tried to take my Norma brass.

Assuming you shoot .338 Norma Mag, I would be carrying one of those glowing mithril LOTR swords specifically for brass goblins in your shoes

I shoot 11mm Gras, Martini 450-577, 577 Snider, 41 Swiss/10.4x38/42, 43 Beaumont and 43 Mauser as well as Egyptian. The only semi normal stuff I shoot is 8x57 crimped and sized for a .319. Why do people at ranges in teh US let people steal their stuff, i
it takes me serious time to cut, fireform, drill the berdan and ream the primer pocket etc anneal etc. How the frick is stealing someone elses time and money allowed?

The American is naturally subservient to the israelite
        This includes the brass israelite

Most people shoot commonly available calibers where reloading, if done at all, is more about customizing ballistic performance rather than the economics or availability of ammo.

I pick up my brass after every single shot to prevent this. Sure it's time consuming and I only get one shot off every once every minute or so, but it's worth it to stop these brass boomers.

In my range there's a sign saying " all casings are on the shooter's property and under his responsibility : don't pick up what isn't yours ( unless helping someone's out) and sweep up your mess !"

With a big ass "lord of war" poster and a 1233h ms paint of a dude holding a broom.

We have a lot of dudes shooting exotic ammo, fireformed cases and they are quite old.. so It's very common to help them find their 7,65 para, 9mm largo, 7,63 mauser and the like than having brass mongrels sweeping up your 308 or 556 casings...

But god forbid if you quit your lane littered with 22lr casings or steel garbage.. the punishment is either bringing beverages and finger food for the gang on your next shooting trip or,if you're really snarky about it: toilet cleaning duty, and black powder dudes uses it as a sewer disposal...

You are also required not to shower other shooters with hot brass ( big issue with svt40s, garand, mas49-56 and browning bar Mk3 300wm) penalty is almost the same orr ashtray cleaning duty

Man I love this place... If it weren't for shitty calibers limitations like no more than 338 lm at the ,200 m range ( sigh no more safari rifles) and nothing more potent than 44mag at the indoor pitol lanes the place would be the breasts.

why are some cases nickel and what do these ranges think of them?

      Anonymous

that's nickel-plated brass. It's not really any better than normal brass but it's often a sign of premium ammo, fancy for the sake of being fancy. It's reloadable and recyclable the same way normal brass is, they'd treat it just the same as any other brass casings.

Nickeled brass is easier to clean and resists corrosion better.

is wrong about it being reloadable like normal brass. It isn't. The nickel plating adds a significant amount of thickness that causes it to shave the jackets off bullets. So you have to flare cases for copper jacketed bullets, as if they were (oversized) cast lead bullets.

Generally a pain in the ass. But they do look nice.

My bad, I didn't mean to imply you used the exact same loading procedures as you would for normal brass, I meant to say that it is possible to reload it, the same way that it is possible to reload unplated brass. It's not like steel or aluminum where it cannot be reloaded at all.

          >steel not reloadable
Funnily enough I can reload steel with ease. I don't even have to resize it

            Anonymous

Idk why people are so quick to jump on the "you can't reload the steel and aluminum" thing. You can and it works fine, it just splits way sooner.

Never tried anything with steel but can you anneal it? Most of my stuff is BP or theload so basically lasts forever but I do anneal cases and check length etc as much for consistency as anything else. I have snider berdan converted snider bras that must have 20 or 30 reloads in some of it

                Anonymous

No idea, I've never tried annealing steel. the only steel I've messed with is pistol since that's not berdan for the most part. It's typically 9 40 and 45, and none of those are worth putting more than minimal effort into since they are so plentiful.

Is it really worth it though? I'm getting into casting soon and there is a lot of lubing methods and I don't know which one I want to do.

Really just depends on how you want your mess. Greasy or powdery. It's about an equal pita either way. I use a 20 dollar toaster oven and a silicone baking sheet to cure the powder, the most annoying part is individually picking the bullets out of the bucket of powder and standing them up in the oven without brushing the powder off. Oh and don't try to squeeze the air out of a bag of powder coat.

I would love to live in this bizarre alternate reality where not only does everybody always conscientiously pick up their own brass, but one of God's Chosen will literally scamper from out of their dwellings within the walls to pick it up for you as long as you let them keep it.
