Baofengs are perfectly adequate for what they're designed to do. That does not include any signal security measures, because they were never designed, intended, or marketed as secure encrypted comm systems. They're still useful for other things.

(cont.) The problem with Baofengs is entirely user-produced. You get exactly what's labelled on the box. If that's what you want, great, buy one. If it's not what you want, great, buy the thing you actually want. If you go to a car dealership looking for a compact hatchback, buy a compact hatchback, and then whine and moan because it doesn't have a hemi and dual wheels and a pickup cargo bed, you're a fricking idiot. Same goes for comm systems. Same goes for rifle optics.

A baofeng, for 20 dollars, is the best 2m/70cm handheld you can get. It's not meant to be anything more than a cheap, easily programmable VHF/UHF radio, I don't understand the complaints with them. For 20 bucks you get your money's worth, in my opinion. The only issue I've had with them is shit QC, but for some cheap chinese shit that's fairly expected.

Exactly, you get what you pay for.

      How do I into radios?
I just bought 2 baofengs on Amazon to learn. Any tips ?

What do you know about radio? Skimming through the ham radio technician level curriculum wouldn't be a bad start. If your radios come with a USB cable, download CHIRP onto your computer, it will make it a lot easier to program your radios.
Start by trying to find your local weather station, they usually broadcast around 162.400 to 163.000 MHz, depending on where you live. You could also look up the frequencies of your local police/fire department, and try listening to those. Those might be trunked using DMRs, but usually a few patrol cars are sending normal FM phone transmissions you can listen to.

        Get your radio loicense.

The studying material is a very good intro to radio no matter what country you're in.

Without that license, you will be limited to listening only, and hams love tracking down and reporting illegal transmissions since they're mega-autists.

How tf do they know if I’m licensed?

            Anonymous

            It’ll be obvious.
Also, they’ll ask you w(at your call sign is, and when you don’t tell them (it’s required BTW) they’ll know you’re riding dirty.

Also, IIRC, you are legally not allowed to communicate with someone whom you know is unlicensed. So even if you don’t get hunted down by boomers, you’re going to get real lonely once word gets out

You have to identify your call sign every time you transmit, or every few minutes if you're having an actual conversation (which doesn't happen outside of repeater networks).

Also to note: Your call sign is in an FCC database which lists your full name and address.

the way /k/ communities and other larperators use these radios, it's extremely difficult for authorities to investigate unlawful use. I don't know anyone that uses their radio at home so the risk is microscopic.
Unless you're a hobbyist or something, getting the license is pointless. If you're that scared of the FCC and their simps, grab an FRS radio.

The chance of getting in serious trouble are low, but hams are a special breed of pedantic, nosey do-gooder that jizz at the thought of getting someone in trouble. Most that happens realistically is you get a sternly-worded letter from the FCC. FRS is shit though, it's channelized and the radios themselves are entirely garbage no matter the brand.

Go back to amazon and get an OFFICIAL programing cable.

Then watch this video and any of his videos you find interesting.
Then go here and find frequencies in your area.

The only reason to get a license is if you want to use an active repeater. Popping onto a repeater without saying your call sign will piss everyone off and they will mentally catalog your voice and store it into their boomer autism banks. Listen to the repeater for a while and then test the waters if you want.

There is a reason it's so expensive; it's because it works. You also don't need all that extra stuff. The 21 dollar uv-5r comes with everything you need to get going. If you end up enjoying it then invest in the extended battery and an antenna. If you already bought the bundle it's no big deal you'll just have extra stuff to mess around with.

I've been trialing one at work for almost a year, it's a tank. I've seen chiacom amazon radios meant for business twice the price or more fail/break more often.

Only thing I've needed is an $8 antenna replacement.

Most people who buy a BF are checking a box. The first time you eat shit with one in a pouch on your chest it's a coin toss if the case holds up.

They cost more, but I prefer a FT-65 with Tx on FRS/GMRS enabled, because it's most likely the same reason you wanted the BF to begin with, but in a better case.

Thing is other countries don't have that standard, which means shit gets imported from China and gets slapped with a Made in Germany label because the packaging was Made in Germany.

It's true though, Italian and Australian "made" tomatos actually come from Xinjiang, China. There was a big scandal about it. Vietnam relabels Chinese solar panels to get around export restrictions. Made in the USA might mean something, but Made in the EU or Made in Japan probably doesn't.
