WTF is up with the chinese

>The Chinese government says it plans to build a "modern military" by 2035 and a "world class miltary" by 2049

They have 40% of the US' military budget (Which gives them a roughly equivalent procurement capability. When you take into account the extreme costs of US global presence and power projection, the fact that China can manufacture quicker for cheaper and that the Chinese average salary is 4 times lower).

So why the frick is it taking them so long /k/?
I heard that they are spending the majority of their budget on missiles and asymetric capabilities but that should still leave them more than enough to fund a "modern and world class" conventional military in a lot less time.

their real budget with internal police is easily 90% of US military budget and they only have

    69 "stealth" jets
less heavy ships than the USA
    limited logistics still

wonder where all the money went

The PAP is just the equivalent of a gendarmerie in europe or the federal authorities in America, most of their budget goes to salaries of the personel and light vehicles and weapons, it's not an actual military.

Going slow is the smart move.
As we see in Ukraine, shit like the HIMARS is incredibly effective and requires that any would be modern military replicate them and then find a way to beat them afterwards. If the Chinese try and rush to claiming modernity without replicating equipment like that, they're fricking themselves over like the Russians have.

Everyone likes to point out how awful Russia is at anything military even while it tries to pretend it's on par with the US. What people forget is that China is in the same boat. China's military history is hilariously awful, with their only significant victories occurring when westerners were advising them or outright fully taking command of their armies. Couple that with the inevitable nepotism and corruption that a dictatorship fosters, and you pretty much have a slightly more wealthy Russia copycat with the same low-quality soldiers that make any edge in equipment worthless in the field.

The cost of military equipment for China isn't any lower. The is more or less as expensive as an F-22 without their definitive engines.

Average Chinese salary is lower, but average US production is more efficient and far more advanced. Building pig iron pans is more economical in china, modern fighter jets not so much. Further, a large part of the Chinese budget goes to their 2 million active service personell and other quasi military institutions.

If there is one thing I know about China is that they are simply the best at building things once they gain the necessary experience.

While J20 procurement was rough at the beginning it is currently much quicker to produce and cheaper than an f35, the same is happening for their WS15 engine.

While the J20 is worse than the f35 in every regard, not so sure that will be the case for the next gen.

Lmao, the marginal cost of the J-20 is fairly higher, nowadays the F-35 is a cheap bastard

CCP always creates these big goals and sets dates for them.
They never reach the goal and just declare it a succes anyway.
Same with how the "fixed" hunger and poverty in china, they just lowered the requirments for what defines being poor in china to such low levels that statisticly there were no more poor people in china.

Because they're no better than Russia when it comes to the corruption and bureaucracy department. They build things for the sake of fulfilling quotas, meeting demands from higher up. Things are made for this reason- not out of a deep understanding or desire for the strategic need. It's top down party politics at it's finest, and nobody actually cares about whether shit works or if it's what they need, it's about meeting the goals from up top while lining their own pockets.

China's military budget is far larger than it leads on. They count it differently than the US does.
China doesn't count the military's healthcare costs or their coast guard among other things as part of the defense budget.

In the US, we take a $1 component and contract it out for $10, but the component gets built and delivered.
In China, they take a $1 component, cost-cut until it's a 50¢ component, order 3000 of them, waste $1000 of the order on bribes, and end up with 3000 lookalikes that don't do anything they were designed to because phenphen isn't actually an engineer just a sewer-oil-eating drone.
