The switch to 9mm was not the amazing choice gun purchase enthusiasts claim it was. Police agencies did it mostly to save money and to qualify more people (women and manlets). We as purchase enthusiasts and larpers choose 9mm because we mostly concealed carry, we don't need a duty round we need am emergency round, and 9mm fits into small guns without having too much recoil. .40 was indeed a better duty round, not by much but still better. The problem was they crammed a 10mm into a 9mm case length so they could still use the same size guns (10mm requires a bigger frame to fit). Realistically they should've just switched to 10mm, but that sucker has some beefy recoil so it's not going to happen. Lots of people are shilling 5.7 now to, but it will never be a duty round as it lacks the mass to not unpredictably deflect through light barriers such as car doors and windshields.
9mm is mostly a cope but obviously it works. You HAVE to get good shot placement and probably want to put at least 2 shots in him. You get low recoil, access to smaller guns, and extra rounds, but it's not a full fledged manstopper. It's a lowest common denominator. If you can handle the recoil get a 10mm, get what cops SHOULD carry not what they do carry because they have to appease their budget and female officers.
The only handgun rounds I bother with are:

Some of you don't need a bear gun and don't use handguns for HD so maybe you don't need 10mm. 9mm should suffice and as stated it depends on the skills of the shooter whether his shoot is successful or not. 9mm will work, but if you're not confident go 10mm unless you can't handle the recoil or need a smaller frame, then go with one of the niche wonder rounds.
