If they allow it, that would depend on what they have available there. Also what their logistics look like, I might buy a different rifle.

    Depends

If I was allowed I would but I would make sure it has parts commonality with the issued service rifles.

  4. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

    No.
No availability of replacement parts through a central supply.
No commonality of magazines for resupply of ammo.
No compensation when it gets broken.

what if your military uses AR-15 / AK derivatives and so do your private citizens

        Anonymous

imo that shouldn't be an issue if you can afford the same rifle as your military but since it's your gun that mean you are in charge of it, so if a part of it is broken you have to pay to replace it and depending on the part the armorer might even tell you to repair it yourself

A 12 gauge or .22 might be good for killing rats in your trenches I guess

Why? I mean, there are so many downsides. Ammo compatibility, cost, extra weight, etc.. If I was sent to war and everyone had AR pattern rifles in 5.56 and I brought a Gucci'd rifle and it was interchangeable, sure, whatever, but what the downsides will almost always outweigh the benefits otherwise.

  7. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

I would take a Gucci'd AR if the US were to go to war today and allowed nice things like that. But anything else runs the risk of not being compatible with existing logistics, never mind parts interchangeability should something break

A hunter that is skilled with a bolt action 300 win mag and a 3-15 power leupold optic would absolutely devastate the vast majority of Glawk and Ar homosexuals on this board. I imagine that most of the posters here have some fantasy war scenario where they are kitted out in the nicest gucci gear crye clothing and plate carriers with the balistic helmet etc. They imagine themselves running around the suburbs with their buddies and their beofang radios mogging any opposition with their Knights armament SR15 and their back pack full of med kits, peanut butter and MRE's. The truth is that these larping homosexuals with no experience will be the first to be picked off at 800 meters by a 300 win mag round through the thorax. While Jimmy is bleeding out in his 2,000 dollar crye gear, his buddy Kevin will run up to him and panic even though he has a medical kit and a fancy war belt he bought on amazon, kevin has zero medical training and thus watches jimmy slowly become lifeless. The CHAD hunter then cracks off another round from 750 meters and hits kevin in the knee, bypassing his hesco armor plates and severing his leg. Kevin is now screaming for mommie and begging for mercy as he had no business running around with 7,000 dollars of larp gear in a SHTF scenario pretending to be a soldier.

Actually I usually imagine myself naked riding a unicycle while dual wielding M60s

    Sniper rifle? Yes

This, I'd bring a model 70 if there was a situation that really called for it, and even then the rifle is useless if I bur the crown or break a spring, and I would either have to use .308 or lug around my own ammo which will run out and the rifle may as well also be broken when that happens. If standard issue was complete dogshit I'd bring my Ruger mini as I have the personal experience to know that it's just as durable as it is useless. Without NATO support I don't have anything better than what they would give me, if I was going somewhere foreign I'd buy a nice PSL or something like it.

No. But I would bring my optics.

      A 12ga isn't a bad idea for a few reasons

It depends. I'd bring my AR if allowed though. Everyone and their mother has an AR so compatibility for parts, mags, and ammo isn't an issue.
If I were going over to Ukraine I'd probably still bring my AR but I'd also consider bringing one of my AKs. Probably my 74 seeing as they all use them over there.

No silly, the war isn't taking place on my private property, I'd bring my public rifle.

What do you mean? If I had to? Yeah, I guess. I'd heavily prefer taking the standard issue unless they were passing out matchlocks, though.

I did bring all my AK74 magpull furniture to the war. Was absolutely worth it. Not only I had the sickest-looking AK out there, but having a foldable stock was a game changer

I have an old beat to shit Berthier carbine that's been through multiple wars, I'd gladly add to its kill count in another.

If 338 win mag or 6.5x54 was in ample supply (and not be an anemic load) or be feasible logostics wise I'd probably give it a whirl with a personal rifle
    Otherwise no

    >Would you bring your private rifle to a war?
Frick no. My sidearm MAYBE, if it was compatible with the issued ammo and I could hide it inside a covered holster well enough that officers don't say jack shit to me about it. My own optic/mags/other shit for the issued rifle if it had picatinny rails, sure if nobody said jack diddly to me about it (and they usually don't while on a deployment). And I have actually done that before.

Burger so of course not. Uncle provides nicely. Rifles just aren't critical other than they need to be acceptably reliable. No point in wearing out my own.

The reason for fascination with small arms is symbolic not coldly practical.

Yes, I'd carry my safari rifle in 458 Lott so I could liquefy at least one motherfricker's chest cavity with a 500 grain soft point.

Not the way it is right now, probably would figure out someway to install giggle switch while already in theater. Definitely would go with 60 rounders, would need muzzle hider, a good foregrip and some kind of red dot which would hopefully hold zero. Would install 18 inch barrel as well. I would then deem it battle ready. I'd probably pick up a good sling too. Right now its pretty much just set up for home defense, but I'd want to modify it before bringing it to an actual battlefield.

I did and it felt good. But then I decided to get an AK because my unit didn't have 5.56 and I didn't want to spend my own money on that shit. One time I even saved katsap's life because one round costs about 1$. Anyway he was unarmed at that moment.

    Depends.
In a modern military that got their shit together and has logistics designed around the fact that all soldiers have standardized kit, probably not.
In a second rate military, where I'm getting grandpa's leftovers if I'm lucky, probably yes.
