Considering current human trajectory, I'm skeptical mankind will even still exist in 100 years

The biggest threat just on the horizon is the massive overpopulation that's growing unsustainably every year. When the western aid network supporting it collapses, there's going to be famine and resulting war on a biblical scale.

      1. There is nothing about browns a continent away having genocide level famines that threatens humanity. Every single person in Africa, India, and china could vanish in a puff of smoke and it would be purely beneficial to humanity.
      2. Overpopulation is a meme. Literally is not a problem unless you actively engineer it like a moron.

      based and objectively correct.

if there are humans in 100 years they will live in caves and eat bugs. either because of an unimaginable calamity like an asteroid strike or global nuclear war, or because we stay the current political trajectory and continue to reward undesirable behavior and mediocrity. idiocracy was a documentary, and warning.

the USA, and likely entire human race has seen their glory days and they are gone. never to return. time is running out.

They will eventually reach stage 4 of demographic transition. If even SEAnigs and poojeets are already approaching below 2 births per women I don't imagine Black folk would somehow become the magical exception to this trend. If they do become an exception its just a matter of letting them die off. Not like they're that vital to industry and manufacturing.

Resource problem, not an overpopulation problem. Maybe if moronic bureaucrats would finally start investing in nuclear infrastructure, As for phosphate it is generally accepted we have 300 years of phosphate supply going by current usage. If we haven't found away to work that shit out by then we deserve to go extinct.

      >The biggest threat just on the horizon is the massive overpopulation that's growing unsustainably every year.
If that's the biggest threat then I'm relieved. Human population is projected to level out at around 10 billion (still far below what the USA alone could feed) and it'll likely start declining after that and not stabilize until the cities have thinned out.

This would have been unthinkable a few decades ago but I'm sure now millions of new ARs are cranked out every year while Kalashnikov manufacture is much lower, and the endless heaps of them from half a century ago actually are mostly rusting until uselessness or being fired until smoothbore

We have plateaued with modern conventional small arms. They will continue to be used for centuries just as the sword and spear were.

Chemical energy will forever be more efficient than battery power.

  13. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

The reason AKs are so widespread isn't because they're easy to manufacture but because of wild Soviet surpluses and extremely lax Soviet arms trade restrictions. The AR-15, due to its ubiquity, effectiveness, modularity, and ease with which parts can be acquired, will be the AK-47 of the 21st century. And probably beyond too, though we might see a switch to MCX style rifles for some marginal benefits. For the time being no novel small arms tech threatens to dethrone the almighty bullet.

Drones are fricking gay so I'm glad even 343 wasn't stupid enough to add them. Drones weren't quite "normal" enough when bungie still had ahold of the series so it makes sense they didn't add them. As others have said on /k/ before though there will always be grunts with rifles.

Hilarious that people assume technology will continue to improve at a rapid rate when low IQ people from the third world are replacing high IQ whites and asians. Europe will most likely balkanize within 100 years give or take due to whites becoming minorities in their own country. If the yugos couldn't get along despite being so similar in every way, it's inconcievable that Europe in the future will. It'll make the Yugo wars look like a joke in comparison.

there's fundamentally nothing wrong with the platform itself
500 years of improvements in metallurgy and milling/stamping I imagine would result in space chinesium AKs that are better than the best AKs today at a price cheap enough you won't feel bad using them as a sledgehammer
the more important thing is the the five centuries of improvements in propellants (combined with the metallurgy to withstand the propellants) that would probably result in some kind of horrifying 7.62x39 P+++++ composite penetrator ammo that costs ten cents a round and travels at 3km/s in-atmosphere with 800mm of penetration capability
