Why was 7.62x25 Tokarev abandoned when it has better ballistic capabilities than 9x18, 9x19 and 40 S&W?

Why was 7.62x25 Tokarev abandoned when it has better ballistic capabilities than 9x18, 9x19 and 40 S&W? The only modernized double stack handguns to use it that comes to mind are those Pakistani pistols and ones made by rebels in Donetsk.

Harder to produce due to neck and also harder to make barrels for,
eastern bloc caliber with not as many militaries in the western world adopting it,
    long case length,
and just less guns chambered in it

Still standard pistol cartridge for vietnam too they also have an upgraded domestic double stack variant I'd love to get some sort of double stack tokarev but all the manufacturers are sketchy
The reason it's obselete is the guns are fricking massive and more powerful pistol cartridges make pistol construction itself more complex and expensive having better ballistics in something expected to see minimal use just doesn't make sense as neat as 7.62x25 is
I'd like to pick one up myself someday akyways, imagine if it had industry support would be like a 5.7 but even more energy

I always wished someone would make a glock barrel in 7.62x25 or 9x18. It wouldn't be practical, but I still think it would be neat. Also, you could get your glock internals all rusty and shit and the tokarev primers would be too hard so it'd be unreliable as frick.

It’s a really long cartridge so I’m not sure how you would get a good conversion to work with just a barrel swap. JG Sales used to make a 7.62x25 conversion barrel for 1911s in 38 Super and I’m still mad I didn’t know this until after they were discontinued.

If there are 9x25 Dillon barrel conversions, there can be 7.62x25 Tokarev conversions

They do make 9x18 barrels for the G42.

I've always been curious about it. I have a Norinco 9mm Tokarev, and it's a jammomatic piece of shit. If 7.62x25 weren't unobtainium here, I'd love to swap in a different barrel and see if it's just the weaker cartridge making it unreliable, or Norinco 's budget friendly machining.

I lost my friend’s dad’s safety for one of these, I was fricking around trying out the trigger pull, and the safety just wouldn’t disengage no matter what position I had it in, finally found where it disengaged.

Pulled the trigger, the safety shot off the gun and to the back of his bench, never to be seen again.

The safety is very curious indeed, depending on what position the hammer is in sometimes it won't engage/disengage at all.

It's the Norinco badge. They sold you a reject off the line rather than sell it to an "ally," that's how all Norinco exports are done. Shittier it is, further it ships.

All handguns rounds (aside from super magnums) have garbage terminal performance.
Not to mention 7.62 tok is actually worse than 9mm, .40, etc.

NTA, he's right that it has higher energy and velocity than most typical handgun rounds, you can easily look that up. But that doesn't really matter, it might have more energy than 9mm but that doesn't mean it's any more effective. We know today that all standard handgun calibers have statistically similar real-world performance.

It doesn't have more energy than 9mm. They have comparable energy in ball ammo with commercial 9mm defensive loads being superior.

          Black person
          9mm is 350 flbs energy
30 mauser is 400+ ftlbs of energy (same cartride as tok just down loaded)
762 tok is 450+ easily . Its aparent through testing and intuition that its way more power than a 9mm if you ever get to shoot one, its really like a light 357 almost. Surp ammo will make rings of fire in broad day light

            >9mm is 350 flbs energy
Yeah and if we're counting the cheapest dogshit plinking loads then 7.62tok is 290ft/lbs dipshit
            >Surp ammo will make rings of fire in broad day light
This is because of the excess unburned powder from it being loaded for longer SMG barrels, it doesn't mean it's more powerful you tard
Compare different loads of 9mm and Tok, commercial tok ammo is loaded weaker than 9mm plinking shit and defensive ammo has more energy than surplus SMG tok loads

    Because it's x25. COAL is 35+mm.
9mm is 10mm shorter which makes the guns and mags shorter and lighter.
Pistol ballistics is practically irrelevant past .22lr.

It doesn't have better ballistic capabilities. It has less energy than 9x19 except out of longer SMG barrels. It also doesn't fit easily in any Western handgun frames because it's got an OAL longer than even 10mm and 45 ACP, so it can't just be barrel-swapped.

Shit cartridge. Longer than 9mm, weaker than 9mm, more expensive and more complicated to make than 9mm. No advantages whatsoever to a lighter bullet moving at THE SAME SPEED as the heavier 9mm bullet. It doesn't even become "comparable" until you're looking at 8"+ barrel length, and even then it's only "comparable."

What a fricking moron you'd have to be to actually ask why we abandoned a shitty cartridge for one that's smaller, more powerful, cheaper to make, and was already solving problems for 30 years prior.

      >moving at THE SAME SPEED as the heavier 9mm bullet
      Nah.
      A bog standard 9mm load is 115 grains at 1180 fps for 355 ft-lb.
      Basic Tok load is 85 grains at 1500 ft/s, for 445 ft-lb.

Now I agree it's a crappy cartridge, but it's not "the same speed" as 9mm unless you're picking some highly specialized 9mm to compare it against.

        Dont agree with this moron
Its not a shitty cartridge at all Nu /k/ hates it aparently cause theyre zoomers that only like glocks . 762 is goated with the sauce. Old /k/ all has one. The surplus ammo will go through 3a soft armor but it needs to be the pissing hot steel core surp from greece or whatever. Tokarevs are also super easy to carry Thiner than a 1911 and holds more rounds. Used to be able to get toks for $200 and still see them for $350. Also It shoots the same ammo as a c96 so i just feed it 30 mauser.

The only reason why old /k/ tended to have toks is because they were dirt cheap. Same thing with mosins, really. That's not a reason to like them, it's an explanation as to why a bunch of poorgays happened to have them.

            There was a bunch of shit that was cheap back then that /k/ hated and still hates because its shit. We like it because The tokarev is a wonderful gun built well with nice steal and good bluing Thin and easy to carry. Iconic and familiar. It didnt hurt that they where cheap making it an obvious buy and the surplus ammo was not only cheap but also stupid powerful and sticks to magnets (;
I still see surp ammo for $15 for 35 rounds and romainian toks for $350 here in caliwali

Basic Tok load is 85gr at 1200FPS, I've only ever found one brand (S&B) that claims 1500FPS out of a <5" barrel.

Maybe this is a commercial loadings vs military loadings thing, I wouldn't pretend to know what the commies were actually using versus what's available off the shelf for larpers like me.
