Because it's using real guns to shoot real bullets at each other. It's as lifelike as it can get without literally killing each other.

      well no
i get the advantage of using a real gun but is it worthy paying that much? are airsoft guns so much inferior?

Considering it's a projectile fired by exploding gunpowder, I'd say it's a real bullet in the same way rubber bullets are real bullets. Airsoft has a weird trajectory and doesn't come with an inherent danger like sims do. You can get shot by an airsoft bb and it may hurt a tiny bit. You get hit with a sim and you may be fricked up rolling on the floor because it HURTS.

          >Airsoft has a weird trajectory
no it pistols it does not
          >and doesn't come with an inherent danger like sims do
500 fps CO2 asg guns want to have a word with you
Then there's Kano paradox - you can't train a lot with a stuff that will make you rolling on the floor from pain. And it will because in FOF you get shoot very frequently.

            Anonymous

With sim ammo You train to NOT get shot and you do so under a severe amount of stress (you learn to keep calmer). People in airsoft do (what in combat would be ) very risky manouvers and strategy (if you can call it that) because it hurts very little when you get peppered. Simunition puts fear of pain into the equasion so you actually Have to think and plan. #Not all airsofters are cat-ear dual m11 non serious players but everyone in simunition training probably is. Airsoft is kind of good for cqb though

There was an experiment done where people were locked in a room with nothing but a button that delivered a small electric shock to themselves. They weren't forced or even encouraged to press it, but there was nothing else to do but press it or sit there doing nothing for a few hours. Everyone pressed the button to shock themselves, one guy did it over 150 times. Men tended to press the button more, but everyone involved pressed the button a lot more than you would expect.
People would rather experience pain and discomfort than boredom. As far as this relates to airsoft, you do the math.

To a PD or mil? Absolutely. To you? Probably not. If you don't see the value in the kinesthetics of using all your actual equipment with real sound and sensation and risk of pain and jams, then just play airsoft. You've heard the reasoning, I'm not here to sell you on it.

yeah, to me, to a civilian, PDs and MIL have their own budgets and don't give a frick about money. Good, thanks for your input

Airsoft guns all vary in realism, especially when it comes to simulating recoil. Simunition typically uses a separate slide than your real gun. So you'll take your slide off and put on a Simunition compatible slide, then use half of your actual gun and your real mags to shoot the CO2 powered rounds. It feels like real shooting but without the deafening effect. It also shows you exactly where you got shot, so if your shoulder or face were sticking out too much you'll know what you need to improve. If you shoot a bad guy in the face, he'll come up to you after and you'll see that you made a good hit. There's less questions when there's marking paint involved, whereas airsoft sometimes you can't tell if you got hit in the face because of the mask or the knee if you're wearing knee pads or elbow pads. Those frickers also hurt like hell whereas airsoft doesn't hurt that bad, so you're afraid to get hit like irl so you train with caution like you would want to approach a real world situation.

Better? Yeah. Cost justifying? That's up to your agency to decide. Maybe they could get more realistic training in if they got some airsoft guns. The industrious man would see thay Simunition is overcharging and make a company to rival them.

        >but is it worthy paying that much?

This is fricking POCKET MONEY to companies and government organizations!

When you work in a generic office job position some day, ask your employer how much they charge the customer for a hour of your work.

I work in engineering and in my line of work it's anything from 60 €/h for new guys to 100 €/h for experienced guys, even 200 €/h for experienced on-site specialists and even more for some nearly-retired absolute experts in some narrow field of work.

But this is hourly salary and not simulation ammo, you ask? Well, everything else is priced in a similar way, that's why things cost so much. You get a tiny part of the money that moves between businesses, even if you think you get plenty for one person.

I didn't ask you anything, you poor brown skin frick 😀

Even your monkey brain can understand the concept, right? A person costs money like any items. Because of the general price level, items can be overpriced for companies, you can sell cheap shit AND a service to fill the customer's storage for good profits.

OP's ammo question is like selling printer ink to an office, you can put 3x or 5x multiplier to the price (compared to what's sold to consumers) and nobody blinks an eye because civilians simply don't use Simunition in any meaningful number.

The cost of the ammo is relatively inconsequential compared to the cost of paying the instructors to run a class for you. If you're already taking the step of doing force on force classes you might as well get the best and most realistic experience possible. Would I buy simunitions for myself just to own? No, airsoft is fine for practicing force on force with the boys.

Because it fricking hurts. Getting shot fricking hurts. You try to avoid getting shot at all costs. This does not happen with airsoft.
Fear is a big part of training.

That's actually an excellent and relatable supporting argument. After one solid hit on your thumb/hand/fingers, you very much want to hit the nail and only the nail from then on. Kinda like taking a SIM in the knuckles/neck/ballsack. You really REALLY don't want it to happen again so you are more careful, pay more attention and focus more.

That’s not the purpose of simmunitions. The purpose is to see where YOUR shots go, while allowing you to train in a near live fire environment against opfor. That’s the real concern and draw. In fact training to be risk adverse and scared is counter intuitive. Also sim rounds don’t hurt that much.

Honestly, most of the people who talk up simmunitions on /k/ will never fricking use them due to how crazy expensive they are. It's been a while since I checked, but cheap .38 special ones were about 60c a round and anything that had to cycle in an autoloader was about $1/round. For comparison, those expensive shotgun slug style first strike paintballs cost 40c/round, and you can get 100-200 airsoft BBs for the price of a single round of simmunitions or similar training rounds.

Serious question. Everyone talks about how people are willing to be more risky with airsoft and the importance of pain to discourage people from risky maneuvers, but how much does that actually matter in the long run? Consider that simunitions have a maximum range of 50 yards and only delivering optimum performance out to 30 yards. Any short range CQC assault involving combat at those distances without support from armored vehicles, heavy weapons, etc. is inherently going to be incredibly risky to the point where you should be doing everything in your power to avoid being in such a situation in the first place. How much do the additional risks people take with airsoft actually affect overall team performance and outcomes in those situations? Is there actually a significant difference, or is it just a coping mechanism to avoid acknowledging the high probability of being killed or maimed for life when involved in situations like that?

I didn't say that situations where short range CQC assaults are necessary didn't exist you fricktard. But that's a great example considering they specifically opted to bring in a special forces group that had tons of training compared to regular soldiers and posters here, along with better than normal gear for the time, to deal with the situation because of how severe it was. Totally a situation you want to put yourself in if you have the choice.

NTA, I use to air soft, and it was a good way to meet other people, but honestly it’s shit training and won’t do that much for you in the long run. Sure you can supplement it with actual shooting, but really you’d be just as fine with actual shooting.
