It was happening on PrepHole since back in like 2010 or something. Anytime games started going up in price, or a publisher did some blatantly greedy bullshit, any critique was inevitably met by accusations of poverty.
A depressing amount of people have a hard time understanding the concept of value for money, and they end up thinking it somehow only applies to bargain-bin type stuff. There are other aspects to the problem (inb4 some smartass greentexts that and adds "ur poor lmao") but the biggest one is absolutely that in any market of significant size, the customerbase will mostly comprise of drooling morons who can be led by the nose into this kind of thinking, and there will always be shills happy to take an easy paycheck in exchange for pulling them along.

            Consider the following:

What began as jokes in bad taste, as many things internet, ended up being taken as non-ironic by newbies.
Add to that the ever growing commercialization of the internet, and it's highly possible shills took to the behavior like flies to shit and astro-turf the meme further.

I’ll put it this way. I’m 35 and make $210,000/yeah before witholding. If you make $40,000 a year, then $100 feels roughly the same to me as $20 does to you. It has less to do with “spending more is better”, and more to do with $100 not feeling like a lot of money.

It's all about perspective. $100 for something essential is not the same as $100 for something for shits and giggles. What's essential is based on your own thought process. I don't mean essential as essential to life but essential for what you're trying to do. Are BUISs essential to a rifle? Well what's the rifle for? Does your life depend on it? How good is your optic? Does it rely on batteries? Etc.
Also when determining how much something is worth you need to compare it against products that are equal in quality/ function and determine which product is best for the price. Basically, frick those plastic sights for $100.

if you took a gun magazine and looked at the prices for AR accessories from 10-20 years ago you would realize things have been as cheap as they have ever been (minus a few people like Aimpoint and Eotech who have raised their prices a lot the past year). I made my own General Tso's sauce and cut up organic frozen tenders, even with the organic premium I'm able to get like 10+ meals out of a 12 dollar bag of chicken.

Extremely based. What is your sauce recipe?

              Anonymous

Basic red pepper sauce (Louisiana style I find is the best for it), red pepper flakes, minced garlic, minced ginger, hosin sauce, brown sugar, onions sauce, rice vinegar. sesame seeds and sesame seed oil, plus corn starch.
Mix brown sugar/corn starch into some water in a pan, heat up while stirring, lower heat when it starts to look bubbly or weird. Let this mixture cool a bit while stirring, repeat process until thickened to a good sauce consistency. Then add appropriate for your taste amounts of the various ingredients I mentioned and cook it on low for a bit. You can make it spicier by adding a lot of red pepper flakes or some hotter peppers. Keep it refrigerated after it cools to room temp as it doesn't do well outside of a sealed container in the fridge.

The cheaper ones *may* hold zero and *might* not get fricked up by a tumble, the American made ones usually are designed and built up to the point that they hold zero in any scenario where the gun isn't beyond the point of usage. You can use the cheaper ones for range, low intensity hunting and other lighter usage but if you want to larp or go 50 miles deep into the woods I'd get the American ones.

        >by default i hate magpul aside from mags

          Anonymous

NTA but a common problem for MAtechs is there's a pin in the center of the body that gets loose and walks itself out, meaning the rear sight will often not stay down or flip up on its own if you don't push it back into place and JB weld it there or something. The elevation adjustment also gets snagged on gear really easily and will change your elevation. MAtechs look cool and are functional as irons but they have some pretty noticeable flaws.

          >KA
KAC? KAC is worse than magpul in some ways, but still good. Magpul's main advantage is the two apertures. KAC only has single. In some situations a larger aperture is more appropriate based on lighting conditions or especially if you are forward mounting the iron sight to get better eye relief on your optic.
          >how so would they break
They fail in many ways but most common is the latch wears out every time you flip it up. They're also frickhuge for no reason which leads to the elevation adjustment getting caught on things.
          >by default i hate magpul aside from mags
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the MBUS pro. It's steel, it even does the useless range adjustment if you want, and it's low profile. It feels kinda stiff and shitty when you first mount it, put some lube in the moving parts and flip it up and down a couple times then it's all good.
          >was it on your rifle in the military
No. I had a KAC rear iron. A lot of people just used regular original plastic MBUS. They worked fine too.

But none of this matters because nobody is using their iron sight and the KAC micro 200-600m rear looks coolest, so get that always. This sounds like I'm being ironic but I'm not. Get a quality optic and accept your iron sights are bling for your AR

Exactly. ~$100 in post-coof bux for a critical component of good quality for your rifle that you'll never have to replace unless you want to. What is the problem here? Are you just poor?

After manufacturers dumped the front sight post and carry handles for the AR-15s they found the perfect opportunity to israelite people out of money for free, basically.

Buy a proper, good AR-15 and you wouldn't need to suffer from this particular type of bullshit.

why would 3d printing sights be a bad idea?

      Anonymous

They're one of the most snag prone components on a rifle, if they're plastic they should at least fold away when they're not in use. I would not trust a 3D printed sight after any forceful impact. I've seen Glock front sights mushroom after a drop.
