Why Russian SU-34 keep crashing in Eastern Ukraine?

Is the SU-34 that unreliable or something are shooting them down? Also, it is possible that it was transporting Ukraine POW as well? Russian MOD allegedly said they didn't need that aircraft at all.

this. we haven't seen the chinese special military operation yet but this war has basically disproven every myth about the russian military having recovered from the fall of the USSR. And American SAMs are blowing up Russian planes over their own territory. The BBC POCCNR is falling apart before any HATO planes have even taken to the skies against it.

it's not a cope. side-by-side seating has enough benefits that aicraft get designed for it even though tandem seating would offer a simpler conversion from single-seat planes and better aerodynamic performance.

Reason Su-34 got side by side and huge hunchback behind cocpit as it needed hunchback space to fit electronics supporting air to ground capability. It is about 2 tons of electronic racks.

In reality Su-34 were spootted all the time carrying combat load of 4*FAB-250, or 4*FAB-500.

They do not carry the same ordinance, or amount of ordinance. Russia doesn't have many PGMs, in a war where they would be bombing actively, the Su-34 would be dropping cluster munitions as a form of carpet bombing. The Su-34 can carry a lot more fuel while carrying the same weight of munitions if PGMs are available.

        >the same amount of ordance
it carries more ordnance though, like almost twice as much
it also has 2 crew side-by-side, which supposedly helps effectiveness. idk how true this is but it seems plausible

It's true if you have no automation or good data links on the plane, which they probably don't.

          Anonymous

Oh and the Su-34 has a second, rear facing radar which would be useful after firing PGMs to turn back, hightail it and keep an eye on any pursuers. Again, they don't have datalink so just using the radar works. Also some Su-34s have additional small hardpoints that can carry ECM pods.

            Anonymous

Yes, they do. They can even be "lofted" (released while the aircraft is pitching up for extra range) and the bomb can figure out the optimal trajectory to get to the target. Obviously the range is going to be reduced however. Also, the old first-gen laser-guided bombs couldn't do that.

      Anonymous

No we for sure know it isn't that. Ukraine and Russia are saying the planes were shot down, and doing so at the same time, meaning they are both working with the same information. Either Ukraine shot at those planes and destroyed them or Russia's story that they shot their own planes down is true and Ukraine detected the apparent shootdowns. Those are the only plausible stories.

They are running out of good pilots. Seriously. To git gud, pilots need time in the air. To do this you need airframes, ideally the same type that you will fight in. They're running out of planes which impact on pilot training, which results in more crashes, which reduces the number of planes, which deepens the spiral.

Did the F16 being an older refurbished frame have to do with the accident? I think most of those are made for export now and the US jsut repairs the ones theyve had in stock for decades. Might be time to swap out for new ones.
