Why one should not rely on levied troops in an offensive war.

Mobilized troops surrender without a fight.

Why does Russia believe sending conscripts in an offensive war is a good idea? What's the motivation for these mobilized troops to even fight (if there's even any)?

Also, what's keeping Russia from just taking the L and simply moving on to something more productive and worthwhile in the long run; Like global trade and building soft power?

Also, what's the likely logical conclusion of this war?

To me its looking like a catastrophic geopolitical and military defeat for Russia with lasting consequences that will be felt throughout this century and perhaps even beyond.

Akshually not during feudalism. Aristocracy fought in the first ranks in person and whoever fought best got best slices of the loot (land). Feudalism in this regard was much more honest and fairer than later conscriptovich wars of the capitalism.

Not the case of WW2 tho. People fought for their ideas and their livelihood there.
Plus the liberal ideals that spread all over globe, globalization and more educated populace mean that you can no longer send a man to a fight if he is not willing to, he will simply defect, unlike the ancient times when the fear of God and conception that your enemy was a barbaric foreigner who only wishes to kill you prevailed in the masses.

Soviet conscripts worked then due the existential nature of that war and what it meant for the common Soviet man and his family if they did not manage to halt and push back the Germans.

There is an existential threat for the ruling elite of modern Russia that is true enough, thus perhaps why they are willing to throw conscripts into the fray. However, I don't believe that there is an existential threat for the common Russian man and his family, thus perhaps why they aren't as willing to fight.

          Not at all.
Taking Ukranian territory in and of itself has no impact on life of Russian citizens. Murdering and brutalizing Ukranian civilians. Their lives are not benefitted in any way at all by Putin regime getting what it wants.

Russia has already been killed. The brains have drained, the youth have been killed en masse, more are fleeing, money has left, no one wants to do buisness with Russia. These things are the real threat. And it's already done. It's literally impossible for any amount of military success in Ukraine to change that.

In a way, it's the reverse of what you said. The more Russia attacks Ukraine, the more Russia kills itself. No matter what happens to Ukraine.

This rate? No. The only way he can get out of this (ignoring Zelensky has signed a law stating Ukraine will not negotiate with Russia whilst Putin is in charge) is this
                >Pulls out of all Ukraine, including Crimea. 1991 Borders.
                >Round up all the war criminals from Bucha et al (the ones not killed on purpose in suicidal attacks) and send them to The Hague
                >Round up the leaders of Russia, Putin, anybody connected to him and send them to The Hague as well to stand trial for various crimes
                >Pay reparations to Ukraine
                >Ukraine joins the EU, decides if it wants to be in NATO or not (probably does)
                >Russia signs a treaty renouncing all claims on Ukraine and blahblahblah (meaningless in practice, but symbolic in gesture)
                >Russia reduces nuclear weapon stockpiles to a 'defensive' number
                >Sanctions will be lifted at certain points, with a reduction in severity over a period of time, with ones slapped on if they renege of anything
                >UN monitored free elections for candidates unrelated to Putin or other influences in Russia
                >Referenda for all oblasts of Russia if they want to remain part of Russia or be independent, any that have nukes and vote for independence must give them up
That's the only way we can go back to attempting to be normal.

                >Russia reduces nuclear weapon stockpiles to a 'defensive' number
                No.

The Russian Federation gets balkanized. Period, no negotiation.

No new country that arises from that balkanization may ever possess nuclear weapons of any kind, which will be written into their constitutions. The full nuclear arsenal of the former USSR and the former russian federation will be confiscated and disassembled. All of it will be accounted for, all of it will be cleaned up, all of it will be destroyed beyond all use or recovery. Not a single nuke will remain anywhere the former USSR or the former russian federation used to exist.

Further note: whatever passes for "russia" after it is balkanized does not get to inherit any of the positions the former russian federation used to occupy. Such as their seat on the UN Security Council, for starters. All of the new countries get to start out like any other new shithole that appears on the scene, from scratch and earn their position through demonstrated ability to work and play well with others.

Dictatorships are a lot more fragile than a democracy because there's no sense of any kind of accountability (Democracies have as little as it is but it's some, even if it's just throwing out one jackass for another jackass). Even Russians have limits to their stupidity of Good Tzar Bad Boyars, and this is the line where that'll break. As for the motivations, nobody but a 0.05% of the pop is sincerely motivated on the culture war homosexualry Putin is running his gums on to fight and die for it. That leaves the nazi shit nobody buys. That leaves the imperialism shit people love if someone else is doing the dying.

This is pie in the sky shit. All Russia would need to do to get status quo ante-bellum is 1991 borders and let Ukraine into NATO and that's it. Europe would throw Ukraine under the bus in terms of reparations and Russia would never give up their nukes or let themselves be dismantled. Putin gives up Crimea and any Ukraine territory and while the Ukes will rightfully still be livid everyone else will be glad to go back to the status quo.

That won't be enough for Washington, I'm afraid. He's going around threatening a non-nuclear country with nukes, annexing territories, and so on. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy, he becomes a Saddam or Gaddafi tier target for the US. Both the US and Ukraine are not going to stop the war even after the AFU drove back the RuAF from Ukraine's territories. It's going to be a perpetual, low intensity conflict or proxy war, like Iran with Israel, until either Ukraine folded back into the Russian sphere, or Russia imploding.

Countries like France and Germany are absolutely desperate to go back to the way things were, if Russia decided to leave Ukraine then the majority of the sanctions they've accumulated would disappear within a week. That's genuinely all they have to do if they want to prevent this self-imposed existential threat; leave. Unfortunately, a few individuals can't do that without saving face, so it isn't going to happen.

            >if Russia decided to leave Ukraine then the majority of the sanctions they've accumulated would disappear within a week
No. Almost all sanctions will remain in place for at least five, if not ten, years.

This dance isn't over until russia pays reparations for all damages, kidnapping, murders, rapes, full reconstruction of everything destroyed. There will be no sanctions relief until all of that is paid off and every hostage that russia has kidnapped is returned, every child that has been abducted returned, and every war criminal that engaged in such behaviors executed. Vodka Black folk will always run away from their debts, so no relief until after the debts ... every single last one of them ... are cleared in full.

That's the day we can schedule negotiations to begin discussing the lifting of any sanctions. If the russian federation hasn't balkanized all on its own by then, balkanization will be one of the conditions to begin discussing sanctions relief.

Yes, Belarus, you are included. You motherfrickers all will begin to understand just what a magnificently fair agreement the Treaty of Versailles was, and you will beg for terms so generous.

they will most likely ease sanction as a condition for paying reparation. Russian economy is so fricked that they can't really do otherwise.

A lot of those children are never coming back even if monkey eats a bullet tomorrow on live TV, and Russia as a whole falls to its knees and begs for forgiveness. Much of it is spite, but a large chunk of it is a shit load of those people abducted are likely so poorly documented that it'll be all but impossible to properly repatriate them. Think about children who are too young to speak, with their parents dead or abducted and shipped off to god only knows where themselves.

I don't think reparations will the important point. Reparation payments are temporary, whether or not russia endures as a threat is much more important. If russia democratizes, demilitarizes and starts sociocultural changes to ensure it does not become a threat again, reparations will be waived (the west will foot the bill for ukrainian reconstruction instead). Renewed economic cooperation with russia will more than make up for the loss. If russia stays as it is however, only waiting for the next rematch, sanctions will stay no matter how much russia pays in reparation. (And likely russia will not pay reparations in that case - why should they.)

Because they're trying to sell the war to the general populace as some kind of Great Patriotic War 2.0 - Ukronazi Boogaloo.
That kinda worked as long as these people were only fed info about heroic Russian troops capturing more and more Nazi land abroad bz the state media... not when they were taken away from their daily lives and sent to the frontlines with next to no training and WWII tier equipment.

    >Also, what's keeping Russia from just taking the L and simply moving on to something more productive and worthwhile in the long run

    >what's keeping Russia from just taking the L and simply moving on
First, there is no such thing as "simply move on" in the rotted out dog turd that passes for a "brain" in the vatnik. russians are congenitally programmed at the genetic level to let no insult, no matter how slight or imagined, pass without extracting a pound of flesh (literally) in revenge from the person (real or imagined) that the vatnik thinks caused their misfortune. No russian ever anywhere at any time has ever done anything wrong. To be born russian is to be born the eternal victim, always being attacked by someone else for no reason.

Second, taking the Big L on Ukraine (which russia is going to have to do anyway) means going down in history as one of the top ten self-owns in all of human history. When you realize that everything that is happening right now is due solely to russian lies, it really puts perspective on just how huge this self-own is. russia has done nothing but lie about Ukraine for decades (centuries, if you bother with reality-based history). Everything russia has done to Ukraine is based upon russians believing their own lies, even when the entire world knew better and has been telling them so.

But, russia did it anyway. Everything that has happened to russia is a result of russia huffing its own farts and pretending they smell like the finest of roses. This qualifies russia as being eligible to go down in history in the top 5, or even top 3, self-owns of any country or civilization in all of history.

For both of those reasons, russia will not take the L. The rest of the world will have to shove their face down into the pile of shit they blyatted out and hold their face tight into that pile of shit until russia has to suck it into their lungs and suffocate on it.

Achievement Unlocked, russia. You have earned Extinction From The Human Gene Pool. It's too late for any other answer atr this point.

    Russia is over.

Putin and his circle of oligarchs ARE facing an existential threat in Ukraine. Ever since this big shale gas deposits were discovered in Ukraine 10-12 years ago the West has been trying to pull Ukraine into their orbit so they can get at that gas and using Ukraine’s pipeline infrastructure (inherited from the USSR) allowing them to completely cut Russia out of the European gas market. That market is the basis of Putin’s circle wealth and power and by threatening that you threaten Putin’s fundamental power base.

Putin invaded in 2014 to head off an immediate threat of the West getting into the gas — that tactic worked and the gas companies withdrew from the deal. But that was only a temporary solution. They tried their best to set up Nord Stream 2 which would have mostly eliminated the risk of Ukraine but the US fought hard against it and killed it politically. Putin understood that the West was coming for him, he needed to secure the gas.

This is tough for kids to understand because they enjoy "monke chimps out". It’s funny because monkey = chimps out lol get it? That is the level of these kids’ analysis. If you’re an adult who cares about reality the truth is in your face.

The problem isn't mobilization in and of itself, it is that Russia thinks that they can lose the war with their unmobilized army and then mobilization will somehow change that fact. If they had mobilized back in January, they wouldn't have been running around with empty APCs and wouldn't have been forced to deploy conscripts into Ukraine with zero training. They could have just called this a war and fought it like a war, but instead it was a "special military operation" with the "special" standing for "moronic".
