Why not F-35?

Why is America scared to use F-35s? Why even develop a high tech multi purpose jet if you aren’t going to use it in the biggest war if the century?

Give it to me straight PrepHole, why was the F-35 developed?

Because they are years out on current orders for F35s with cunts who are paying in something other than IOUs, and it is by far the most advanced western airframe publicly acknowledged. The F16 is available in a few weeks to months, is a lot easier to swallow for people buying and selling on unpacked credit, and is a lot easier to acclimate to for pilots and ground crews who up until now have never worked on anything more advanced than late 70s Soviet tech.

      >Give it to me straight PrepHole, why was the F-35 developed?
To combat a peer enemy. Which Russia isn't. And as always with such weapons to be a deterrent to any combat in the first place. The US would prefer if China just gave up on Taiwan and SK and Japan and bullying all its other neighbors and just was a decent if kinda internally shitty country. Ie, more like the trajectory in the 2000s before the rise of Xi, back when it was run by a committee instead of a dictator. But if we DIDN'T bother modernizing a single thing, the odds of China attacking would be way, way higher than they already are.

Also easier to accept mass losses of. There are thousands and thousands of F-16s and with the F-35 steadily obsoleting them it's a much easier political sell to give piles to Ukraine and if a bunch get shot down just say "yeah it's a 70s airframe however updated and we would have scrapped them anyway, at least it's helping there".

Adding on to that with the high amount of current F-16 users there are also more possible instructors, both for pilots and service crews.

Because they don’t need to, and if one ever get shot down (or worse, accident), it would massively impair the program from a marketing standpoint.

They don’t need F-35 to win, plus they could probably get 8 F-16 for the price of 1 F-35, and it would achieve the same result.

F-35 is not a magic weapon, it can and will get fucked-up if they fly them too close to russian SAMs.

marketing the best warplane in the world is more important than a regional squabble. the f35 is for the big show. Russia is now longer a part of that play.

I unironically adore the idea that the largest possible snub to overinflated Russian ego is the US rolling their eyes and saying "Never play an ace when a two will do. Russia isn't WORTH using the F-35."
That must hurt the Kremlin more than we could ever know.

              F-22
As against the NGSW program as I am/was, the Sig Spear is clearly way more rifle than necessary since Russians either don't issue or don't wear body armor. I think it's too much gun for any infantry fight in the modern battlefield but that's another topic.
I think I read somewhere that it's illegal to send fully kitted Abrams with DU armor but I'm honestly too lazy to fact check it

    Why not F-35s?
Because Ukraine is asking for F-16s. And they're asking for specific models of Jets and Tanks for logistical reasons. E.g. dropping Challenger 2 tanks on them just cause wasn't necessary. They're too heavy for both Ukrainian infrastructure and tank transporters.
F-16s are used by both neighbouring Romania and Poland, which means an established logistics for maintenance and repairs, if need arises.

      >dropping Challenger 2 tanks on them just cause wasn't necessary
It was necessary from the geopolitics reasons, not to mention the psychological/morale effects of having some strong tanks defending, say, Kyiv

This, plus there's a surplus of F-16s on the market right now. Several European nations (Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Denmark) are phasing out their F-16s for F-35s. One option affects a production line, the other doesn't. The answer is simple.
Not to mention the bottomless pit of spare parts out there. America's got an air force worth of them sitting in the desert, doing nothing, and the European stocks aren't bad either.

The backlog of orders is big. Yes, LM produce 150+ of it per year but it isn't enough. The amount of planes USAF needed is ridiculously big(1.8K+) and that's just for one customer.

F-16s have a much more ease on the production and those wanting to donate are countries that are already have F-35s in their inventories.

And also, F-35 is a generational leap and would introduce a little bit more complexity on the lessons that will be given especially with how relatively new the doctrine on that plane is.
