Even if the new rifles and bullets could achieve 600m ranges, most battles were fought below a 100 yards. It turns out, an overflowing of clueless recruits without the structure to train them, leads to inefective skilless soldiers unable to take advantages of their equipment. After the war, the shooting shools and the NRA were created.
It’s stupid, every deployments abroad have demonstrated that rifles are just used to make loud Bang Bang sounds while waiting for the Air Force to drop bombs on empty houses.

Historically Marine forces were meant for small expeditionary campaigns, often punitive against shitholes. It makes sense really. The Army is meant for big wars. The Marines are supposed to be a quick and easily deployable force Admirals can use to punish uppity despots.
