How much of this war is getting led directly by US advisors at this point, nu/k/?

Don't worry. All that the black NATO supersoldiers have to do is to raise their erection and Russia will immediately understand.

So you agree NATO has much better command than Russia?

        Anonymous

They probably do, but it isn't going to last nearly as long as we hope. The russians will finish the war being the most capable (not technically, NATO will likely still hold an edge there) in doctrinal terms at waging modern industrial war. The US won't really have that due to internal problems, lack of manufacturing base, etc. and europe hasn't shown itself to be capable of waging modern war on their own since like 1982, or past that if you're being charitable.

It's true that American industry is not what it used to be, but it is still several times larger than the completly dilapidated russian industry. For decades the only things Russia has been able to export are gas and prostitutes.

If the Ukies are puppets, they're puppets who can successfully relay their overlords' commands to their forces and even have them carried out with something resembling coordination.
This is a level of performance completely incomprehensible to the rusgols.

        >Puppets

Ukrainians use the NATO style of command, allowing their subordinates a considerable degree to autonomy and initiative. They lack the top-down rigidity of the Vatnik Barbarian.

Exactly. Even if at the top they're working with US staff to plan things, they also have an organization that can carry those things out without having to send generals to the front line.
This seems to confuse the Russians greatly. They can't seem to decide if the Ukrainians are lawless, commander-less bandits or some sort of genetically engineered bio-robots under direct 5G control. Maybe they just can't imagine a scenario where people know what they're fricking doing and actually want to do it.

The Russians can't imagine a command system that doesn't involve rigid obedience to MUH ORDERS.

It's why they'll always be outwitted by Ukrainians. Russian-Curly can come up with THE PLAN, but the Ukrainians simply change facts on the ground too quickly for Vatniks to keep up.

I dont buy this "NATO muppetiers planning everything". No american adviser (except this new AI chat bot, probably) could put together offensive military operation not involving aerial supremacy, having close to no air support at all actually.

And no Westerner would come up with the absolute madman plan of the two pronged counteroffensive. It was widely believed Ukraine was locked into a stalemate on the Donbas by the West.

Zelensky himself pushed for the counteroffensive, and when the West said, "It's not going to work", the Ukrainians simply went, "What if we did TWO counteroffensives?"

From what I read, we originally only trained the Ukrainians on defense. It's why their offensive tactics are so bizarre to us. They lean more on the Eastern model of offensive warfare, albeit married to Western command style.

Of course NATO isnt planning everything, probably not even planning anything. However, having access to intelligence and assessments from the west (mainly US) is, in terms of a war between Ukraine and russia, like a litteral cheat code.

Russian propaganda is different depending on the audience it's aimed at.
For internal use and for audiences in non-white countries, it presents pozzya as this peaceful, multicultural, socially progressive empire with the enlightened tzar at the top. For the West, it depicts pozzya as this trad con paradies where women are women and men are man and gays know their place - as opposed to Western "degeneracy".
If you ask how it is possible to maintain both narratives at the same time, the answer is that very few people speak English, Russian and a thirdworlder language fluently enough at the same time to notice it.

it's funny, but anecdotally, I know of countless cases of Russians (and Armenians, Bulgarians, even some Greeks - but that's beside the point) ending up settled in Ukraine for whatever reason and becoming more Ukrainian than some Ukrainians. there's this mother of a friend of mine, originally from central Russia, married to a Ukrainian, lived in Ukraine for decades, still can barely speak Ukrainian, but hates Russia like you wouldn't believe, ever since 2014, and does what she can to help the struggle. people seem to get used to Ukrainian ways, the gist of them being that yes, the country's messed up, yes, there's corruption, but it's sorta on the right rack, and most importantly there are always multiple players involved, never a single party hegemony throughout, and that in turn allows for certain degree of freedom of action, let alone of opinion. as long as I can remember, opinions were always freely expressed and argued in Ukraine, starting from the level of park bench or apartment's kitchen and to national level in media, there was never a stifling 'best keep you mouth shut' atmosphere like in Russia, especially after 2014. I think that it's not an accident that the first maidan was a reaction to a killing of an outspoken journalist. the second maidan, when all is said and done, was about preventing Yanukovitch party from building the single-actor vertical hegemony with the support and along the lines of his Kremlin curators. I suppose some Russians grow accustomed to these fundamental differences and in that they are more Ukrainian than Russian.

now, I personally have not even heard, let alone met, those supposedly Russian Ukrainians, the ones who find life in Ukraine and its ways so deplorable so that they would rather Russian Federation take over and run the show. I mean, чтoбы чтo? (so that what?)

samegay here. ok, scratch that, I remembered one guy, originally from one of the Ukrainian towns close to the border, he lived in Russia for some time when I met him. for him it was about 'the 'merikans globohome trying to do Russian in', he was a nice fellow in a way, and not stupid, but he bought this narrative complete and argued his case passionately. he was also pretty impressed with North Korea and tried to convince me that it's all honey and peaches there, and all the talk of camps, famines and other madness is Western propaganda. he did not seem to have any practical objections to living in Ukraine, he just made more money in Russia from what I remember.

yeah, to conclude, don't have much first hand experience of people who just had to be part of Russia while still in Ukraine come hell or high water. anyone with at least a bit of sense just looks and sees. hell, many of those settled Russians still have relatives in Russian Federation, they visit, they see how it is there and compare. it was very illuminating back in the day to start from Krakow in Poland, and make a trip through Ukraine from West to East, stopping for a bit in smaller towns and villages and just checking out how people lived, how they built houses, how there run their communities. it did become shabbier and increasingly depressing in the Eastern areas, and upon crossing the border into Russia it was more dismal still. it was immediately apparent that people there just did not know how to live in a very basic, practical sense, I suspect that they didn't have the impulse to try and make their community a more liveable, nice place at all. I think this is related to that practicality of a good Ukrainian 'master-of-the-house' which the Russians like to ridicule, the inherent desire to keep your estate in order, running well - it's a generalisation of course, but in my opinion it's true. anyway, sensible people look and see. what does Russia have to offer? a chance of being part of 'something bigger, a huge fricking country that matters, which will show the whole world that We Can! Everyone is Scared of Us'? well, looks like this main sales pitch turned out to be a flop. and to support the shit-show, one has to give up even the minimally decent standard of living, the basic freedoms, blindly accept and peddle lies, give up the basic human dignity. no thanks. I mean, you want Ukraine? go for hearts and minds, build up the oblasts next to Ukraine into some Russian-vision-paradise showcase, with good transport, perfect amenities, great schools and medical, and no corruption to boot, people will make their choice. but this is not the Russian way.

Napoleon wasn't out there personally adjusting each cannon or firing every gun (even though he was a well trained artillery officer), he simply understood his weapon systems, motivated the soldiers below him, promoted skilled people, put his armies in advantages situations, etc.. If this guys is any good, I'm sure it is the same.

Mostly because they actually train and trust their troops and give them the freedom to independently accomplish goals. You know. Western stuff.
Vs. the Russians having to literally send generals to the front to micromanage their circus until they lost about a dozen of them making the rest flee to the rear. So now you're faced with the current situation of a bunch of dudes on the front with no senior officers, no oversight, no idea what to do or how to accomplish it and the result is top down orders to "take field x" without context "whelp, better send another couple platoons to run across this field and die I guess."

no they don't lmao my mate went and volunteered for the foreign legion shite and came back and immediately said you have to wait days for permission to ask permission to do something, theres no operational freedom for NCOs or even junior officers whatsoever and the only reason why the autumn counter offensive succeeded is because russian soldiers were low due to the 6 month contracts being over. the war is two corrupt shitholes punching each other whilst being drunk and high on krokadil

The Ukrainians conducted the successful defense of multiple major cities (Kyiv especially), forced two major Phyrric Victories on the Russians (Mariupol and Severodonetsk), and launched two successful counteroffensives (Kharkiv, Kherson).

All the Russians do is charge into prepared defenses, and run away.

        Anonymous

        >The Ukrainians conducted the successful defense of multiple major cities
Like Kherson? Oh wait, that was the city that Russians have actually bothered to capture rather than just bypass it like they did with every other major city in the opening days.
        >(Kyiv especially)
You can't call something a "successful defense" when the city in question wasn't even contested. The Russians were never going to storm Kiev with just 50k troops. As evident by the lack of any attempt to assault the city, and their quick withdrawal from the region. Hell, they've barely even started bombing its electric grid until October. So assigning a reward for a battle that was never going to happen is disingenuous.
        >forced two major Phyrric Victories on the Russians (Mariupol
There was no large Russian formation that has been encircled and destroyed in Mariupol, like 36th ukrainian marine brigade. There was no large formation that has fully surrendered, like Azog did. Not sure why you call phyrric then. It may come as a shock to you, but refusing civilians to leave the city, using them as meatshields and outright murdering them in the basements does nothing to inflict "phyrric victory" against enemy. It does make the locals hate your guts for several generations though.
        >and Severodonetsk)
Severodonetsk was a strategic defeat for the ukrainians, ending in their complete rout. So much in fact that Zelensky was still in denial about holding the city for days after it had been abandoned.
        >and launched two successful counteroffensives (Kharkiv and Kherson)
They've captured a whole lot of empty space around Kharkov, and lost a shitload of troops in their attacks against Lyman. They've lost entire brigades in frontal attacks across empty steppe feeding into Russian artillery just to get within visual range of Kherson. Which the Russians then simply evacuated in perfect order and almost intact. Couple more "successes" like that and the ukraine might run out of adult males.

I think it's more that national identities evolve in response to geopolitics, and both Poland and Ukraine's identities have been significantly influenced by their sufferings under Russian imperialism, especially during the USSR. As such the previous conflicts they had, I.e ukraine being a victim of polish imperialism, have taken a position in the background of their national identities, whilst anti Russian histories take centre stage

They're suffered massively compared to how much the russians were able to achieve, especially when considering they only committed around 200,000 men to an offensive against a country that has been handed 10,000 NATO trained men every year since 2014, along with billions of dollars in aid. That being said, we've yet to see anything of how this war will really play out beyond the obvious russian victory. Whether or not said victory will be costly is in question. The Ukies are living on borrowed time, financed by the american taxpayer.

They saw the Russians as a serious threat and have been actively working with NATO/American trainers to form a proper NCO corps. We haven’t been training the Ukrainians in western military doctrine for 8 years. We have been training them for more than 15 years. We have had advisors on the ground and joint training exercises since 2007.

The biggest contributing factor IMO was the multinational joint commission and operation unifier. The Canadian (and Swedish) tutoring the higher echelons of the Ukrainian army in command and training was instrumental.

However, it would've been useless if it hadn't been for the Ukrainian ambitions and will to defend their country. The effort they put in to completely turn around their military doctrine was massive, both for politicians and officers.

It's generally less politicized than the Russian officer corps. Not to say there isn't any corruption or civilian meddling in the Ukrainian military, but at least your advancement isn't completely dependent on who your political patron is like in Russia, so there's still some room for meritocracy. It also helps that a lot of the fifth columns got outed in 2014, so the officers who were left had at least a modicum of integrity.

The Russian command structure is such that most/all of the initiative flows downward. They tend to operate as reinforced battalions in their most basic organic combat unit, so this means everything is going through your Major or half-Colonel at the head of the formation. This is a bottleneck in any combat unit, bit it's especially bad in the rigid and outdated Russian military command and control. Officers at lower level have less responsibility and ability to impact the battlefield; as an example, very rarely can a section leader call in his own fire support. They can pass information up about the urgent need for artillery/tanks/mortars etc, but the CO and his staff need to approve and arrange anything that actually happens. All this is also exacerbated by the fact that the BTG is somewhat undersized for larger operations, but rather big and unwieldy for smaller actions. Coordinating between BTGs is messy, but they don't operate as effectively as the fundental combat unit of a major military should.

Basically officers are set up to fail in this system, and the corrupt and thuggish nature of the wider organization is the cherry on top of the shit Sunday.
