Get hidden nerd
Cool, the 9382nd thread about forward assists.
Retard.
We should've just made the AR side-charging with non-recip charging handle
there is literally no reason this couldn't be done
now you get to deal with a shitty rear charging handle, inarguably the least ergonomic thing about any rifle ever, as well as the forward assist
This. The charging handle mechanisms of the G3, G36 or HK433 are so much better. Hell, even the original AR-15 charging handle on top underneath the carry handle was better than the shit that it has now
While I agree in terms of ergonomics the issue with side charging handles usually comes down to reduced rail space
>The charging handle mechanisms of the G3...are so much better
I'd understand If you've never used either outside of a videogame, but in real life hell no.
Is this the retarded takes thread? Okay, here's one, why is there no centerfire .22LR that's still as cheap as .22LR?
There would be if all rimfire production capacity was shifted to centerfire primer capacity.
There is, of course, no reason this couldn't be done.
I remember that guy.
What a retard.
It's because primers are an entire secondary manufacturing line, .22lr is just stamped out, even if the material investment is the same. the companies don't want to have to invest in more machines for literally the same thing but different, which would keep initial cost high enough to prevent adoption cause you fags can't appreciate economy of scale or why .22 is actually cheap in the first place
imagine having to take your scope off to use your pop up lmao fucking wth
Fuck ya mudda
>Was Stoner right all along?
Of course. If your rifle jams, you NEVER try to fucking ram the round in, since it jammed for a reason. Applying force is only ever going to make things worse.
Anti FW posters don't own ARs and get all their knowledge from video toys or guntubers
or possibly I just don't shoot it enough but I doubt it
No reason. It only exists because the Garand and M14 had charging handles attached to the carrier so retards could smack it into battery. The Govt profile barrel came about because grunts would pry open crates with the barrels of their M16s and then wondered why they got point of impact shifts.
If my AR doesn't go into battery/fails to fire, the first time I'm doing is racking the charging handle anyway because with other types of malfunctions you have to do that anyway. In an emergency and I lose 1 round, whatever. My next upper won't have it and I won't lose any sleep over it.
During the early stages of my army career they taught us to check the type of stoppage then act accordingly. As I moved on to doing real stuff they just told us there's only one stoppage drill that's slap, rack and go. If that didn't work well your dead so who cares.

Slap the forward assist or the bottom of the mag?
The bottom of the mag Satan.
Nice digits, and 'slap' refers to the magazine, since a surprising amount of failures came from not seating the magazine all the way in. Source: my dumb ass in the first year or so in the Army.
As of 2014, the sequence was
>slap mag
>pull charging handle
>observe chamber (to make sure you don't have something more than an F2F/F2F)
>release handle
>tap forward assist
>shoot
more generally, I would describe the attitude as "hit the assist whenever you manually release the handle instead of using the bolt release, just in case you weak-arm it."
>shits in your water buffalo
I was trained the only time to use the FA was when using blanks or sim rounds.
>retard one off missions< retards using it like a hammer all day long and swapping em in tours for years
The only and ONLY thing I've ever used the button for, just for curiosity's sake, is when I was gently manually cycling the charging handle and the bolt would stop about 1/3rd an inch from full forward.
It's vestigial design bloat and useless.
try using your thumb on the bolt next time
Side note, this is a decent indication that your gas rings are good.
It was more about lubrication amount - when I reapplied a little more it would fully cycle no matter how slowly I handled the action. But given WHAT I was doing, that probably means overlubed realistically.
Wait can an AR ever really be overlubed?
I have the type of stupidity where I will be careless and get some thumb skin jammed into the upper, so no.
Any gun can be overlubed. Oil attracts dust which creates grime that can clog up moving parts and cause excessive wear.
>I will be careless
it builds character
if you dont like it then buy an upper without one.
my thought is you definitely need something that allows you to manually operate the bolt both backwards and forwards. Id almost go for a reciprocating handle too. it might be bad to force a round into the chamber but there might be another situation where you need the bolt to come forward but it doesn't. Maybe its ice, or maybe its dirt/mud.
The AR-10 had the charging handle under the carryhandle atop the receiver and while it was non-reciprocating you could push it down and engage it on the bolt to manually operate it backwards and forward. However this position for the handle turned out to not be good since it would overheat from being right above the bolt/chamber where hot gas would vent. So it was changed to the rear position we now have. I reckon Stoner didn't think no longer having a manual way to push it forward was a big deal since it was a "closed system" and I think he said he thought soldiers might push a round in and make a bad problem even worse. The Army wanted some way to manually push it forward though and I agree with them. Though I really wonder why they didn't just slap a handle on the bolt, cut a channel on the side and put a spring loaded dust cover ala fnc instead of making the FA plunger button.
anti forward assist fags are almost as bad as ukraine fags
shoo
oh god the primersperg is back everybody run
