Coming from a small town in a smaller nation, no, it did not "weird" me out; rather, I was impressed by the scale and variety of American production and consumption. Where I come from hardware stores are typically small shops run by tradie owner-operators in almost a mum-and-pop fashion. Variety of product is obviously a lot less.
The funny thing is most intelligent homeowners and contractors who care about the quality of their work avoid places like Home Depot and Lowes like the plague. Cheap chink shit and employees have no industry knowledge. Home Depot used to hire retired professionals (framers, plumbers, painters) to help run departments and help customers and then a few years ago they axed the program because god-forbid you pay people who actually know what the fuck they're doing instead of hiring retards who are just there to collect a check.
I work at a small lumber yard with a Home Depot in the same town and It never cease to amaze me the amount of people who specifically come in simply because we're not HD, even if our prices are higher.

>has a big fuck off lawn mower engine
It's actually one of the lowest weight-to-power ratio engines around. Literally the only negative about it is that it's a Wankel, and the apex seals will fail eventually (after a few weeks of runtime, which is why it doesn't matter).
Reminds me of the missile that had a control board that didn't bother with memory management -- the manufacturer calculated the maximum flight time and then soldered enough memory on the board that it couldn't possibly run out before the missile detonated.
so how much longer until there's a thin shell 3d printed version that has a larger payload?

Doubtful. You can do a lot better than 3D printing for weight savings. FFS, Monokote weighs practically nothing compared to even a LW-PLA wing shell. It also costs one hell of a lot less than LW-PLA, and it doesn't take 60 hours to print a single part.

the "no timestamp" guy has to be a shill. when you pay for custom imagery from commercial satmapping providers they don't plaster text all over your output.
Leave it to the Aussies to design and implement a cheap annoying paper plane that fucks everything in its path up for shits and gigs. I love those cunts.
It's not just the satellite photos, but either Kursk would be the first successful largish attack this entire war that hasn't involved cellphone video of things exploding, or it was a failure. Everybody but you seems to have accepted that - for whatever reason - the kursk attack was a failure.
It was a joke - by "confirmation of damage" he meant "confirmation of no damage". It really looks like the Kursk attack was a whiff. I'm assuming the Russians got warning from their moles in Ukrainian intelligence and moved their stuff around.
It's small and the fact that it's made of mostly RF transparent materials means that it probably gets filtered out by most air defense radar algorithms as background clutter or birds. Small drones is something that traditional SAM radars do struggle with since lowering the background noise filter will increase detection of small drones but now you're also detecting all the other random clutter that'll actually decrease overall performance in the end.

from an engineering point of view this seems dumb. the overall system is still quite expensive, why would you greatly increase the risk of total loss by using card board when it saves you maybe 20% of the overall cost.
as I understand, the cardboard has a coating that makes it withstand dew and a certain degree of rainfall. You can also fit more into a van that you can drive around in Russia
How this thing turn, it seems it has no ailerons/flaps or a rudder.
the entire rear of both wing has an aileron each. It turns like a flying wing (e.g. B-2). The tail is just for stabilization
>as I understand, the cardboard has a coating that makes it withstand dew and a certain degree of rainfall
The manufacturer describes it as "wax impregnated"
Kind of but that's technically layered plasticized paper and wouldn't have the rigidity for an airframe and airfoil so there's more engineering than that.
So what's stopping ukraine from making a thousand of these mixed in with a thousand decoys that cost next to nothing, meant to eat missiles that cost a thousand times more and throwing them at, oh I don't know, the kremlin?
Military targets is fine, honestly the Kremlin would be excusable to a point but it does kind of make Putin twitch over the button, let's not make him panic too much.
The escalation ratchet is a game of frog boiling. You don't want to do too much too quickly.
Realistically, it wouldn't take much for one of the military kleptocrats to blow up Putin, blame it on the Ukies, then threaten to NOOOOOK. Enough Western 5th columnists will beg for appeasement that funding for the war will wane, Russia can slink back behind their borders while still saving some amount of face, and rebuild 'fortress Russia' while 6 or 7 million Russians starve to death. Western business criminals will go back to buying cheap Russian gas in a month.
They still need optics and (I assume) lithium batteries. These things are good for what they are, lightweight drones that can be assembled in the field. They're good for partisans, and it's still not confirmed that these drones specifically damaged any of thier targets.
Reconfiguring Neptunes for ground attack seems like a much more efficient use of Ukranies productive capacity.
>is it really that hard to detect with radar?
Yes and no, it's visible on radar but not at long range and it's tiny and small so hard to distinguish from say, a sparrow.
The cardboard and rubber bands are radar transparent, the prop might be too and props are kind of the main thing you're looking for because of the odd way they reflect radar.
You're left with electronics (tiny, look at an FPV flight controller board, optics and battery.
The camera isn't very big either so the main component that is throwing off serious radar reflection is the battery. I have no idea if the explosive material generates radar return, I assume so since it's relatively dense and electrically conductive but I've never researched that.
These components add up to provide a decent radar return but they're just so small that it's going to look like a bird or something. By default, AA radar will filter those into a "probably not a missile" bin and the operator will need to specially configure their radar to alert them to these and then they're also seeing every bird flying past too.
The speed they travel at will also make them look like birds too, AA radars use a variety of properties to decide what is a threat and what is harmless and it's going to take a skilled operator to decide what to react to and what to ignore. Even then, they'd have a tonne of false positives from wildlife to deal with.
And then there's the question of what to do about it, AA missiles won't explode because the proximity fuzes don't react to something that small, there's a webm of an AA missile flying right past an FPV drone because it doesn't explode. It will need a gun which I think only Pantsir has (a 30mm autocannon) and even then, they'd have better loaded the right ammunition because they're going to have trouble hitting it with dual autocannons firing AP ammo and I don't know whether they even have proximity fuzes for their frag ammo, they're meant for shooting down apaches and reaper drones.
For the same reason as Shaheds: they're not particularly good, but they're very cheap, you can use them in large numbers, and most people don't have weapons systems deployed that are optimized for this kind of asymmetrical threat.
tfw unironically best defense is a dog trained to hear drone motors and bubba with a skeet shotgun

What sort of standards are these drones built on?
They are built with leftover beer packaging, rubber bands and are guided by pure Australian maliciousness.

made of cardboard but the front doesn't fall off
So what's stopping ukraine from making a thousand of these mixed in with a thousand decoys that cost next to nothing, meant to eat missiles that cost a thousand times more and throwing them at, oh I don't know, the kremlin?
international politics
most western countries don't want ukraine to hit targets in russia
Yet
They kinda
Just did that a lot
Reconfiguring Neptunes for ground attack seems like a much more efficient use of Ukranies productive capacity.
>the second nuclear power in the world is getting trolled by fancy paper airplanes
War, war has changed.
Why is there no new threads for the mass drone attack for fucks sake
you know they don't actually keep up with the news. they just react to each other. retards in binary orbit
>this kills the S-300
Serious question - is it really that hard to detect with radar?
Do we have any info of its radar crosscection?
>is it really that hard to detect with radar?
