Why don't we still use AT rifles? The Russians still use the bullet cartridge on their machine guns.

Why settle for that when you can knock out the entire vehicle with a shoulder launched rocket type weapon?

Because they aren't that effective relative to their size and weight. The same things an AT rifle will penetrate can be penetrated by 40mm grenades and disposable launchers that are common at the fire team level, and the things that cant be penetrated by an AT rifle have been impervious to them for over 70 years. If you're going to have a weapon be broken down into pieces and spread across a squad, why not have that weapon be belt fed and automatic? That's the function of the M2 in a weapons platoon.

With regards to the 14.5mm cartridge you're talking about, it's being used in converted HMGs for marksman and anti-vehicle use. It will punch clean through a BTR-80 or BMP3's aluminum armor. For a western example, Carlos Hathwiener used a scoped M2 in vietnam before the Barrett entered service.

Somewhere out there is some footage of rebels shooting at an APC at the Dontesk airport from about 2013. Find it, it is great.

When they start putting armor on these things, we'll see a brief resurgence of the big fookin infantry gun. It will be kino.

I hate to ask, what era is Ivan here supposed to be from?

He could be literally any joker with a PTRD and a tarp from 1941 to now.

Found a post on 1/6th Warriors, he's supposed to be from 1941, but something tells me there's a schmoe in Donetsk with close to this exact getup.

Because MIT is a global brain drain mill to find candidates for skunk works, which is why we have Javelins that make a mockery of enemy armor. We should have only been in Afghanistan for 6 months, but the ability to sacrifice renewable human flesh for the combat data, in addition to money laundering tax money was just too good. Also, Iraq was a vendetta war and only started to test operational capability. Al-qaeda was allowed to pull off 9/11 with assistance from the CIA (who had the Blind Sheikh in federal custody who tried the 93 bombing) in order to secure oil access from Saudi Arabia and to have free reign to use Yemen as live combat data collection for (at the time) new drones. Have a good one.

Because an M72 Law costs like $2000 to make weighs less, and can frick up more than an AT gun can by orders of magnitude in one shot
