Someone who's actually doing survival shit won't have to "bug out" if society collapses because he's already surviving in his daily life. If you have a "bug out" plan you're living a relatively comfortable life day by day, so your "bug out" place cannot be set in an extremely harsh environment or you will be unprepared. What I mean is that if you can drive there and reach the place reasonably and live there reasonably (e.g. somewhere with a water source), other people will probably reach the place eventually, and they will find you. It's surely better than nothing but I find it naive to believe that you can switch from a relatively urban lifestyle to a 100% independent cabin life at the drop of a hat. Even people who live in frickoff places in arctic conditions only manage because they have access to good provided by the "system" which will collapse. Those people however will be more prepared because they live there day by day. Someone who goes camping every now and then, I'm not sure.

It's a cute set up, but it's a bit overkill to be honest. I don't particularly understand these types of campers, even when I've been stuck going camping with them. Being out in nature is not about necessarily being comfortable, but I suppose that's a difference in philosophy.
I don't care about comfort above a minimal level when I camp, partly because I enjoy the challenge of removing things to the bare minimum and still enjoying the experience.

Let's be honest for a second: very few people who have easy internet access to shitpost on PrepHole are hardened survivalists. Someone who's actually doing survival shit won't have to "bug out" if society collapses because he's already surviving in his daily life. If you have a "bug out" plan you're living a relatively comfortable life day by day, so your "bug out" place cannot be set in an extremely harsh environment or you will be unprepared. What I mean is that if you can drive there and reach the place reasonably and live there reasonably (e.g. somewhere with a water source), other people will probably reach the place eventually, and they will find you. It's surely better than nothing but I find it naive to believe that you can switch from a relatively urban lifestyle to a 100% independent cabin life at the drop of a hat. Even people who live in frickoff places in arctic conditions only manage because they have access to good provided by the "system" which will collapse. Those people however will be more prepared because they live there day by day. Someone who goes camping every now and then, I'm not sure.

I like the exposure, I like cooking over a fire, I like the idea of being able to set up almost anywhere I want, being able to walk out and see whatever sight I set up In front of. I already have a nice lakeside area picked out where I won't be bothered by anyone, and I could easily camouflage the whole camp.

ngl I'm trying really hard to hate on OP's pic but it looks maximum comfy, I'd stay there for ~2 weeks in that set-up and enjoy some fly fishing in the area, and if in a remote location, take my thruhiking shit to a "far" lake and camp there for ~2-3 days then go back to that set-up to recuperate and go to another lake and repeat

I just did a 5 day hunt, and really appreciated a comfy place to sit out of the rain where I could relax by the fire, clean my weapons and change into dry civvie clothes.

That's a pretty good setup, some people camp, not to suffer, but to enjoy the outdoors.
Camp is there to relax, somewhere to sleep and eat.
I use an old 12-man military tent in the winter for base camp when snowmobiling, it's pretty nice.
Even staying in a setup like this is nothing like staying at home.
This would be pretty comfy for a 2-3 weeker in mid winter. Snowmobile up somewhere deep in the Colorado Rockies with a sled and set up. Literally nothing wrong with this.

It's a bunch of useless (sub)urbanites who hate to leave their air-conditioned drywall boxes for even one picosecond, and only endure it so that people online will think they're outdoorsy.

I have a boomer relative who enjoys camping, which in my country means paying rent to have his trailer sit in a parking lot with 200 other trailers. It's some kind of camping resort with chemical toilets, showers, etc. He goes there to chill out and BBQ all day, goes to the same place every year. He's happy like that and it's honestly not that bad. People aren't loud and there's a minimum of enforced decor.
The rest of my family thinks this is too "wild" and they loathe the idea of doing something as primitive as this. Mentioning camping as putting a tent in the woods is absolute no-no weirdo shit, like why the frick would you ever do that?

It's a cute set up, but it's a bit overkill to be honest. I don't particularly understand these types of campers, even when I've been stuck going camping with them. Being out in nature is not about necessarily being comfortable, but I suppose that's a difference in philosophy.
I don't care about comfort above a minimal level when I camp, partly because I enjoy the challenge of removing things to the bare minimum and still enjoying the experience.
Also it's a huge hassle to have so much shit to cart around. I can fit my entire camping get up in my backpack, and a tent bag. They fill up 2 cars.
Every time I camp I set up a fob. I dig a fighting position and I SLEEP IN IT. During the day I find identifying features in the terrain, and at night I use my ps14 to stalk animals. My fob is a big tent like the one IN OP,which i use when I infil and exfil. So my first and last day. I then practice removing the fingers and toes of imaginary people on my imaginary list. Does that count as camping?
