Why doesn't the Taigei have VLS?

Why doesn't the Taigei have VLS?

Most likely due to size limitations. If they need to fire missiles then they can do so through the torpedo tubes. I know for certain that they use the Harpoon but I'm unsure if the Tomahawk is in Japanese service.

It's this. The Japanese submarine force is purely an anti-ship ASW force, they don't have VLS for the same reason the Brits don't. Mission profile doesn't require it and the Harpoon can be shot just fine from the torpedo tubes

They are still trying to develop the technology probably their military is very dated

      >their military is very dated
In some ways, sure. The way I'd describe them after being stationed there and doing a few combined exercises is that the GSDF is a sort of token force because everyone needs an army and absolutely nobody is ever invading Japan, while the MSDF and ASDF are very capable modern forces. Limited budget, they've got to prioritize what to spend it on

        For now

Invading Japan is too hard unless you have a big enough force.

            Such as the PLA.

The USA is obligated by treaty to defend Japan. The PLA invading Japan isn't happening until WWIII has gone hot (instead of the proxy war phase that it's in Ukraine right now).

The PLA can't take Taiwan, there's no way they'd be able to take Japan.

              >imblying
Unlike Taiwan, China has absolutely no interest in conquering mainland Japan

At most they might want Seikaku and maybe Okinawa but the rest of Japan has little economic worth and they'd be sooner launch a nuke on Japanese soil than to land their own men in an amphibious assault

Xi is going full Maoist so literally nothing his government has ever said can be taken at face value though.
Either way they're not fucking with American speedbump garrisons and getting cut off globally and/or glassed.

A having a million bug soldiers is useless if you don't have a credible logistical chain and amphibious capability.

You're asking to get curbstomp, chongpong

Actually America is encouraging them and helping the Izumo class be converted into carriers to handle the F-35B.

They're encouraging them to buy more equipment from what they are willing to sell them.
They won't actually allow Japan to have any genuine independence in military matters. They're basically stuck in the lap dog role until America gives that up.

You could unironically just shoot down all its aircraft, jam it to shit with Growler, and then JDAM it.
