Why does the possibility of being shot while defending yourself never really come up here considered outside of SHTF discussion?

Why does the possibility of being shot while defending yourself never really come up here considered outside of SHTF discussion? I see plenty of talk of being in outlier self defense scenarios involving reloading, needing to shoot more than 2 attackers, or where your choice of gun/gear could matter, but never any discussion of carrying medical supplies for if you or someone you're with is shot in the process despite being significantly more likely.

Consider the following:
>gunviolencearchive.org lists 142 self defense cases involving 3+ attackers and 3+ people shot
>only 58 of those cases involve the defender shooting 3 or more attackers
>103 of those cases involve the person defending themselves or another victim getting shot
>34 of those cases involve the person shot by the attacker dying, 33% of cases where an attacker shot someone

Out of the 4246 home defense cases they have documented (which are easier to search for cases of residents being injured/killed without manually checking cases individually) they list:
>30 cases involve a defender shooting 3 or more attackers
>690 cases involve a residents being shot
>148 cases involve a resident dying, 21.4% of cases where a resident was shot

Considering how important immediate medical attention is for trauma care, why are people not just as concerned with arrival time for EMTs as they are for police?

Cops will hold ambulances back until they can "clear" the scene. You're on your own.

Surviving the encounter is the most important part so that's why it gets talked about more. If you want to talk about first aid go to the gear thread.

      >Surviving the encounter
If you die afterwards, you still failed to survive the encounter.

By this logic nobody will ever survive an encounter. The death rate of all humans is 100%.

Oh come off it, you know it's disingenuous to say dying at the hospital after an encounter and dying 70 years later of old age are not the same.

I carry elastic shoelaces around both ankles at all times to use as tourniquets. These actually work, one time I sliced open an artery in my arm doing something stupid with a hatchet alone in the woods and the only thing I had was one of these coiled elastic shoelaces from Walmart. I lost tons of blood but I didn't pass out and I managed to walk out of the woods without help and drive myself to the hospital. I also carry disinfectant and bandages everywhere in my pack.

I have a cat tourniquet but I always carry the lightest smallest thing that works. I wouldn't even think of it if I didn't have direct experience with this, I don't blame you for thinking it's crazy.

For those of you that didn't eat paint chips. Don't do this. Get a TCCC tourniquet.

Yeah. If you get a gushing wound, why stop there when you can also crush some extra blood vessels and give the medical personnel a greater challenge. It's not like you are risking dying from your own foolishness or anything. You might even get a nice amputation of a key limb; something to really impress the girls with!

Because you can only EDC so much shit and it’s better to take your chances getting shot once or twice than having no weapon and purely relying on medical treatment.

If I get shot I just need to sit in cover long enough for my HP to regenerate

Wait, I thought no one kept statistics for these situations? That's what posters here always say when outlier situations get brought up.

Couldn't agree more. If you recognise that the risk of violence in your life is high enough to carry a gun then its also high enough to at least consider carrying a tq and maybe more medical supplies.

If I'm wearing a winter jacket with plenty of pocket space or carrying a bag for some reason then I'll always bring along a CAT tq and a handkerchief or something to use as a wound dressing. Gloves +/- gauze too if I'm carrying a bag.
In summer I step down to a SWATT or even just a metal pen (with plan to improvise a tq if needed).
It's easier for chicks, my wife keeps a CAT/gloves/gauze in her handbag so she's got access to them regardless of clothing.

Got a heftier FAK in both cars and another in the closet at home.
Also keep a tq strapped to my HD rifle and another in the desk with my backup HD gun downstairs.

If you're carrying a SWAT-T make sure you know how to apply it properly - most people don't get them tight enough.
If you're planning to improvise a tq then make sure your belt and whatever you're going to use as a windlass is strong enough - they may snap under tension.

A TQ is probabably the least relevant medical item you could carry. The torso is the most likely place you’ll be shot and the odds of quickly bleeding out from a pistol shot to an extremity are very low unless they hit an artery directly.

The best thing to carry is just gauze. You’re in a developed country not on a mountain top in A-stan

Bullshit. The extremities are dense with vessels, if you are shot there bleeding out is extremely likely. And the chances aren't as slim as you think.

Because action heroes don't get shot unless the plot dictates it.

    >>30 cases involve a defender shooting 3 or more attackers
    >>690 cases involve a residents being shot
    >>148 cases involve a resident dying, 21.4% of cases where a resident was shot
Well I suppose this is the answer to the "what if I need to shoot N+1 attackers" situation /k/ normally talks about.

You know exactly why - it's cowboy fantasy bullshit. In an average adult life, you will have multiple encounters that result in you or others requiring first aid, but people with two guns and five knives in their pockets won't have a first aid kit in their car because it doesn't help them with the magical christmasland scenario where Badman and his Bad Friends shoot at him and he kills them first and saves a group of attractive ladies who do him a sex and then dad comes home from the store with the cigarettes after twenty years.

      >dad comes home from the store with the cigarettes after twenty years
This is the only part of the fantasy I've ever actually cared about; are you saying it's just as unrealistic as thinking I'll ever be able to have sex? If so I'm hanging up the noose tonight.

Daily reminder. Your IFAK should have a
    >TCCC Tourniquet
    >Gloves that aren't black
    >Chest seal, twin pack
    >Gauze with hemostatic agent
    >Wound dressing with hemostatic agent
    >Trauma shears
    Other gear is optional.
