Because more cuts on the frame are for looks not production.

Hi-Power don't have the grip safety plate for a single action handgun carry. Newer 1911's can be 9mm.

Glock won the brand wars among the Wonder Nines. Even though the BHP was the first, Glock really blew the doors open on the whole concept.

Because it's weird and big, and frankly more antiquated because everything else besides the Beretta 92, P-38, Px4 and some .22's and novel experimental period semi auto pistols use its mechanism and do the rest of its stick better than it does.

It's one of those things that sounds good on paper but it's really not that good irl, underwhelming. Where as 1911 sounds moronic on paper but blows your mind irl, overperforming.

All of the modern 9mm pistols you're familiar with have the BHP as a precedent.
The 1911 is a thing of it's own, no longer a duty gun but still in use.
The BHP became the archetypal duty gun, and has modern successors.
In this light, should we not consider the BHP more successful?

yes i've seen this articles dozens of times and it doesn't change anything that I've said. Glock 19 was mainly preferred for ease of cleaning and parts replacement, not because its the better weapon.

            Anonymous

            >The move, first reported by Jeff Schogol of Marine Corps Times, follows a Marine Corps decision in February that a MARSOC operators to carry Glock pistols, since many of the elite outfit's members prefer the popular Glock 19 9mm handgun over the custom .45 pistols the service bought them in 2012.

            >The new .45s are nice, but many MARSOC troops prefer to carry Glock 19s instead.

            >The decision is not that surprising since U.S. Army Special Operations Command has also chosen the Glock 19 for its elite units such as the 75th Ranger Regiment, the source said.

being more reliable, easier to maintain, having modern controls, having higher capacity, being lighter, being smaller, and using a preferred cartridge are all things that make it a better weapon you coping and seething dotard

Yuroslimes don't have a gun like we do. If they did it'd be just as popular as the 1911, but in the States the Hi-power is unknown unless you're into historical military guns.

Okay and? The thread is about why the Hi-power isn't as popular as the 1911. It's not as popular because the US never used it, and in Europe, where it was used, most Europeans aren't interested in guns.

        >glocks are more popular than 1911s
yeah we'll see about that in 2063. 100+ years later and than 1911 is still very popular with firearm enthusiasts

In 2063 we'll still be using both 1911s and the glock 19 gen 35 which will still look exactly the same.

No, Sig will replace Glock. The P720 will be marginally better than the gen 35, but tremendously more popular for it.

The 1911 is still a very nice target shooting gun and fine for home defense if you get a double stack or invest in some 10 round extended mags. Its dominated the market for SAO pistols for so long that there aren't many competitors so its still relevant if you want a SAO pistol.

The High Power was the best gun in the world when it was introduced but at this point in history if you want a DA/SA you've got a lot of alternatives like the Beretta 92 or Sig P226.

So the M1911 is still relevant because it dominates its particular little SAO niche in the market while the High Power has been eclipsed by superior DA/SA pistols.

Same reason the FAL/G3 is significantly less popular than the AR-10. Foreign designs popular outside of America quickly die the second those nations retire it from service as few nations have a civilian firearms market as big as America's. The 1911 survived this long because it has a massive civilian market to sell to that its been in for decades versus the BHP. Also you're a moron if you think that magazine safety capgun has any place in this world, especially against 45 ACP. Only moronic Sovlgays think it's good and deserves a place in the market

I was always told it was because there was a design flaw where if the gun got worn out and old the safety wouldn't always work and it was never drop safe. Forcing you to carry with an empty chamber if you aren't moronic.

Probably because more modern hi power derivatives are there to steal all the limelight. I'm not actually sure which is more popular right now in competitions, 1911s or CZ-75s.

Hollywood. The US has the world's biggest entertainment industry and the 1911 has been front and center for decades because of US-centric WW2 movies and other action movies that used 1911s because Hollywood armories were already full of them thanks to said WW2 movies.

    >like the BHP at least isn't completely obsolete
Exactly incorrect though, the BHP is actually more obsolete because it was ahead of it's time. It was the precursor to the current meta of the double stack wonder 9, everybody makes better versions of the exact same concept, reliable ok accuracy with a mediocre trigger duty guns. On the other hand the 1911 is the pinnacle of a different design philosophy which forgoes capacity for exceptional accuracy, ergonomics, and trigger feel. No other gun with decent market support beats it in this niche. The BHP might be a better choice for a defensive firearm in a vacuum but real life isn't a vacuum. In 2022 it still makes sense to buy a 1911 on its own merits if you value those merits, on the other hand it makes zero sense to buy a BHP as other designs do everything it does but better.

1911 isn't obsolete because its mods have become widespread. It can double stack, host red dots and picatinny rails, and come in a larger variety of calibers. Works amazingly when paired with its excellent trigger and ergos.
